  1. Every time it's fired, whether 1 shell or 200, I pull the gun apart, bore-brush the barrel, then swap it until it's clean. Pull apart the gas system and do the same. I then clean the BCG and the plug with CLP befor wiping dry. On the lower, I clean the rails with Q-tips and give them a light swap of oil before reassembling. I don't know how much is "necessary", but that's the way I was taught to keep guns.
  2. Following up; met w/ Razr and we had a nice time. Gas setting 1 (except where otherwise noted): Winchester AA Super Sport Sporting Clays 25 good, 0 FTE Winchester AA Light Target Load 10 FTE (5 on gas 1, 5 on gas 2; stopped test after this). Winchester High Brass Game Load (recoil noteably stronger here than the previous 2) 24 good, 1 FTF (with the shell ending up getting crimped badly against the ramp, so likely this shell will have to only be fired out of a pump now). So basically, this gun cycles great on clay-type high velocity birdshot, pretty good on high-brass bir
  3. I think I met you at garland range Sunday. I had the brand new Saiga that didn't like what I was feeding it! Hey! That was me! How is going? Let's keep in touch. I was there about 1-ish to 3-ish Sunday. Spent the first part of the hour trying to get my rifle sighted, then the rest doing my ammo testing. I'll be finishing the rest this Sunday at Dallas Pistol Club's Shotgun steel match. I should be able to participate in the match too. I guess I will meet you there. Are you the club member by any chance? Yes I am. Look for the Tx Longhorn visor. I will probably be shoo

  5. I've been a member for a while, but actually owning a Saiga is new. For starters, I'm going to go ahead and give the rubber pad a try. By comparison, my Moss 590 w/ the Knoxx is a lot easier on my shoulder and that's a pump gun, which kind of surprises me.
  6. DFW Gun on Mockingbird. I wanted to test on #1 to get a base-line. My next test run of boxes, I will go #2.
  7. Just got back from the range for a partial ammo test, and figured I would share my results. No FTFs luckily; these were new boxes of ammo and generally I only get FTFs if the shell is dimpled/dented in front. All these are using the default gas plug, setting "1". Winchester AA Super Handicap, Heavy Target Load 22 Good, 3 FTE. Remington Promise Handicap, Target Load 14 Good, 9 FTE. Federal Field & Target Multipurpose Load 5 good, 10 FTE (I intentionally cut this one short when I saw where this was going). Remington Nitro Sporting Clays 25 Good, 0 FTE I didn't ge
  8. +1. Not sure if this is my issue, but now that I think of it, it's possible. Mine also has the UTG top rail. When I first got the gun, I cycled high-brass no problem. While doing so, I noticed my sight was wiggling and noted that the screws holding the top rail were loose, so I tightened them. The next day, at a 3-gun match, the same ammo was having quite a few cycling and FTF issues. I'm going to have to try and removing the top rail and see if that makes a diff. If it does, then I may decide to switch to a side-receiver rail to hold my sight instead (similar to my AK 7.62).
  9. Someone will no doubt correct me if I'm wrong, but I think a Red Jacket S-12 shouldn't have the cycling issues you mention; especially not with high brass. If I were you, I'd contact Red Jacket directly about this, and keep it off the board unless they truly fail in the CS dept and won't fix your gun. Don't get me wrong, I'm not attacking you, but posting this here before talking to RJ makes them look bad. No aftermarket additional "feed ramps" or anything of the sort should be necessary to get your S-12 cycling birdshot reliably on setting 2, and imo you should never have a problem w
  10. The gun is a Red Jacket converted gun, purchased from Atlantic Firearms. Shells were Winchester hi-brass bird #7 lead shot. Someone told me that Winchester AA and AA Supersport would cycle (presumably at gas setting#2), but I didn't have a chance to test it (and didn't want to run untested shells at a tournament, to compound running a marginally-tested gun). When I tested the high brass at a range the night before, it was able to cycle the high-brass, even at setting 1. However, I got sporadic failures (actually FTF rather than FTE, now that I think of it). The magazines were Surefire
  11. Some of this of course is lack of experience; this gun is literally only a few days old. Just got back from my first 3-gun using the Saiga (Red Jacket w/ UTG rail). Had some feed issues, even w/ high-brass. The previous night, I thought I found some high-brass birdshot that would cycle (even on 1) but at the match today, I had a few FTFs, even with setting 2. I think it might not be a cycling issue per say; it looks like if the shell has even the slightest dimple or flaw, it is failing to go into battery. Sometimes I can get it in by racking the bolt, sometimes not. Is there such a mo
  12. I'll double-check when I get home, but if I remember last night, the "1" and "2" are at the 3 and 9 o-clock positions when the tube clicks/locks. I guess 9 o'clock is pretty close to 7 o'clock. I'll have to see which number gets to that position when I screw in fully, then begin to unscrew. Thanks for the replies.
  13. Hello, Just joined the Saiga club; purchased a Red Jacket converted 12g from Atlantic Arms, and I have a couple questions. 1) The gas setting (1/2) kind of confuses me. As RJF faq says, there is a detent at the 7:00 position, that allows the tube to rotate. There is a "1" on one side, and a "2" on the other, but neither one is marked as the "setting". If I rotate the tube right, it gets tighter and eventually stops rotating (screwed in all the way I assume). If I rotate the tube left, it loosens. As I understand it, the "1" setting is where I should try first, and if a particularl
  14. Thanks for the replies all. I'm leaning heavily to the S6 because of the included HK sights and Galil charging handle/handguard, and also to avoid needing to go through the hassle of the Class 3 tax permit. Last question (until I put the order in once the list opens up): Do the other models (S6, S2, S19) take less of a beating, so are able to run >10,000 rounds without a rebuild (assuming proper maintenance and care and kept in clean dry conditions, etc)? The primary purpose for this gun would be for match shooting (roughly once a month, figure a couple hundred rounds), and mayb
  15. Thanks for the reply. Right now, based on what I'm seeing and hearing, I'm leaning for the S6. Given that it's a longer barrel setup, I'm guessing that it should be more consistent and takes less of a beating as you say. I'm hoping that the S6 can take a drum magazine, but it's not crucial that it can. The screw-in choke would have been nice, but again not crucial. So now I just have to sit and wait for the list to open back up and place my order.
