  1. I know the Op was not into magnification but I have a trijicon tr21 r with the triangle reticle on my slr 95 and I freaking love it. I paid a little over $500 NIB. On 1.25x it's not all that much slower than an RDS IMHO.
  2. I had my 21" chopped to 19" and threaded for 5/8x24. It currently is threaded with an SEI Vortex. I love it.
  3. It's not cheap but you can add an ultimak lower railed handguard. I have one on my .308. I had to purchase longer 10-32 screws to allow for the thicker barrel on the barrel clamps but it is rock solid and gives you lots of options. The model I got was the ACR SS.
  4. I had mine chopped to 19" and threaded for 5/8 x 24. I installed a Vortex on it and the recoil is not bad. My Saiga weighs 12.2 lbs with an empty factory mag, so I think weight is soaking recoil in my particular situation.
  5. Thanks everyone for the help! I guess I jumped the gun so to speak, there was not any crack, they were deep finish scratches only. I took my dremel and lightly ground the area then sanded and there were no cracks. To be sure I flexed the piston considerably and looked for stress fractures, all good. I don't think I'll be replacing any more gas pistons unless I absolutely have to. Definitely not the easiest job without a drill press. The rest of the conversion went pretty easy. I was nervous about installing the bullet guide and mainly snapping the tap (that seems to happen to me alot) but
  6. I've done 2 conversions (308&762) I just slid the front of the factory triggerguard under the mag release, no screw. It is plenty tight if you bend the triggerguard in such a way that it creates spring tension when installed. I bend the trigger guard to where it is about .19" flexed beyond the rear tg screw hole and flex it in to place. Comparatively it is tighter than the trigger guard on any fal I've ever handled. Completely secure and One of the only shortcuts I'll use on a saiga conversion.
  7. I am converting a Saiga and one of the d*mn compliant parts I need to switch out is the gas piston. I drilled out the dimples enough to clear the threads (I thought), clamped the gas piston in the vise to twist out and there was some some extreme resistance. I thought maybe I had to get past the screwed up threads from drilling, so I continued to twist. while I was rotating the carrier i noticed two small cracks spidering out from one of the holes I drilled. I am Sure I need a new bolt carrier now, My question is: Can I use my same Factory bolt head with a new bolt carrier? Will a differe
  8. Having owned different versions of collapsible stocks for AKs, I would say the Tapco is dead last in construction. I am not a Tapco hater, I think the g2 Fcg is awesome and have it on all of my AKs but I have owned the t6 stock and I was not happy with it. My biggest gripe with it is that the entire unit is plastic. The AR buffer tube design is not the most robust stock option to begin with, making the tube plastic further decreases the strength. I went with the vltor adapter and clubfoot modstock and I couldn't be happier. I also recently went with the ace AR fsm adapter with an IMOD stoc
  9. That Saiga in it's current form is not an even trade for the remy. The factory trigger belongs on a nerf rocket launcher and you'll regret the trade until you convert it which would be extra expense. If I could only have 1 308 out of those 2, I'd take the Saiga contingent upon a trade plus cash in your favor.
  10. I would stick with the dinzag modified Fcg for a single stage and a red star for the 2 stage Fcg. I have a dinzag Fcg on mine and it is awesome. Incredibly clean break and light pull weight. There are so many options with regards to AK furniture now you can do pretty much anythIng you want depending on the purpose of use you have in mind. If you want a traditional looking conversion, i would check out KVAR for furniture. If you want function and utility over form, I woulld look at ACE LTD USA for all sorts of options. I converted my S308 with a DMR type set up in mind and I followed the Ga
  11. I have owned previously ; a PTR 91 an a DSA fal. I went with the saiga 308 after owning both and i do not regret it.Actually I went with the Kalashnikov platform for all of my long guns. There are enough options now to make the saiga 308 a viable mbr IMHO. With all of the accessories and magazines being produced and the proven Kalashnikov design, I think a properly converted s308 will beat out both of the aforementioned legacy battle rifles. I am using the krebs beryl type rail on mine and while I'm totally happy with the performance, i bought it before the TWS rails were available. If I c
  12. I purchased the mags from a 3rd party vendor and traded them for 2 factory mags. Let me say that the cssspecs mags are damn near bullet proof and very high quality, I am in no way indicating otherwise, I just got one that was no right for my particular rifle.
  13. I bought 2 csspecs 20 rd mags and they were very robust. One fit my rifle pretty well, the other was very loose in the mag well and had a considerable amount of forward and backward play. As I understand it, the mags were made to work with the varying tolerances of the saiga magwells. That being said, the csspecs mags are very nice anyway.
  14. The best IMHO is the Ultimak tri rail. It fits many different models of Aks including the saiga 308 if you add (2) 10-32 X 3/4 screws in place of the factory ones on the rear barrel clamp. The Midwest industries rail is good to go as well.
