  1. The 1913 pic rail is mounted so that it now clears the rear sight BUT I only have 3 of the 4 screw slots available to secure. Thoughts? I was going to return these tomorrow and purchase the front bias mount + the AKMD mount for the Bushnell TRS-25 ( of course I will need to purchase the RDS ): What do you advise?
  2. I thought I could remove the dust cover with everything attached but the side mount is limiting the upward movement to remove the dust cover. Any other ideas?
  3. The RS base & mount arrived today. The base slid right on after a few slight adjustments via the titanium screw. Very tight! No shims needed.
  4. Yes. My indoor range is 25 yards. The first target was the 2 on the right @ 10 yards. Then #1 was @ 25 yds. Looks like I need to adjust the irons to the left. I don’t have your 75 yd option with the SBS.
  5. I’ve only tested Remington Sluggers:
  6. MM: I’m hoping my 8” barrel will group well @50 yds. I have the irons zeroed @25. Next test will be @50.
  7. My personal experience has confirmed I get what I pay for it in terms of quality and function but not always. A recent example of paying little and getting more than I expected was my recent purchase of High Point’s new 10mm Carbine. Only $332 delivered! Admittedly I’m drawn to quality products thus the RS line got my attention. Of course I could have spent less. I don’t even know how often I will take the S17 hog hunting and I’m not convinced that my Mueller Quick Shot RD will hold up to the recoil. Why do I like two of the reticle choices do much? As to the cost of the RS packa
  8. I ordered the RS 303M base + 1913 AKR Picatinny Rail which is longer. It is what RS recommends for the pic rail. Next week I will report back. Once again many thanks! You schooled this boy.
  9. Update: Fortunately I called MI. Their AK mounts we’ve been discussing are not made for shot guns. They said I should to RS or another company.
  10. Thx Veprz. I kinda need to lower my head to look thru the rear drum sight. I’m thinking the pic rail may add just enough for a comfortable cheek weld. I was considering waiting for a possible Fathers Day coupon but it is free shipping. Might pull the trigger tomorrow. If it ends up a total bust I’ll put them up for sale at a good discount.
  11. RS update: Their AKR 1913 Picatinny Rail is only 4.9” so I think I found a happy medium that won’t appear too bulky for a RDS.
  12. HB: thank you but if I have to start that fun project I sticking with the irons. I’m ok if the zero to bore is not perfect as long as I can set zero with RDS adjustment. Update: my Mueller RDS is too long ( 2 5/16” ) for the short MI picatinny and I believe the same for the RS. Gee I thought this was a simple plug and play.
  13. Yes and no on the RDS. I have a Muller Quick Shot that I want to try. I have concerns that it will hold up although it is marketed to Turkey hunters. I would consider a Bushnell TRS-25. The more I’m beginning to understand the MI and RS platforms while considering a co-witness it seems like a direct mount vs picatinny is the better option. Thoughts? Seems that both the MI & RS are good quality while the MI is one piece with choice of mount. Note: my Tromix S17 is my only AK and I do not have any plans to purchase another AK. So moving it to another gun is not a part of this deci
  14. My buddy likes this MI vs the RS because it is about $54 cheaper ( picatinny rail included ) and feels it will line up close enough then only need a little RDS adjustment. Possibly this. Thoughts?
  15. Mullet Man: I’ve seen the light! Dang a picatinny upper is $73 additional! Thanks for schooling me!! So as long as my RDS mounts to a picatinny base then I need the AKR 1913 rail mount, right?
  16. That is news to me. The picture of the RS AK-301M has the forward short picatinny rail attached. Why would I need an additional upper?
  17. I have not decided on a RDS. I have a Mueller Quick Shot that’s been sitting in the safe for too long. Plan to mount for starters. Even if it lines up and all is good it might not be able to handle the 12 gauge.
  18. My buddy has a Holosun with the green reticle that is very quick. Not sure of the model. I think I will order the RS. I really appreciate the education and guidance!
  19. evlb: The reason for adding the RDS was when walking & stalking feral hogs. Estimate 25 - 50 yards running slugs. I was thinking quicker target acquisition with my eyes. Thoughts anyone? Am I over thinking the application? Pedal: thanks for pointing this out! But HB feels certain I wuill need shins, etc which I do not want to do. I was ready to order the RS AK-301M. Are you guys all in agreement this would not line up without shims?
  20. HB: Will I not be able to attach the AK-301M?
  21. Thanks for the replies! Evl is correct. The S17 has an HK rear drum sight. Any thoughts on this: Midwest Industries Quick Detach Picatinny-Style Scope Mount AK-47, AK-74 Side Rail Matte? I read the reviews. Sounds like the tolerances of the Saiga will determine how it sits in relation to the bore.
  22. Please share what you are using on your S12. I’m also open to your choice of a RDS that holds up. Thx!
  23. Update: It was my bad. It took several full turns to adjust the auto plug to cycle Rio consistently. Fortunately I've got less than 50 rounds left of this Rio. I'll stick with Federal red hull as my low end from now on.
