  1. Buzz, I guess it's rained a lot more up north than I thought it had this week....... Looks great! (Tip: use a little Naphtha on a Q-Tip the clean up the white "haze".)
  2. Glade we could help! Buzz is a great guy! Check out his cleaning a Saiga video, too. It's helpful. Look'n forward to the PM's if I can be of anymore assistance. With money being tight for all of us, it's helps to learn from the mistakes of others, don't ask me how I know this........
  3. Guy's I've gotta ask a rudimentary question concerning the replacement of the Saiga FCG. So please bare with me. I'm still new to the AK platform, but love it so far! I want to replace my stock trigger, but I do not want to do a full conversion. (It's a CA thing.....) Can I replace the stock FCG, with the single hook TAPCO G2, without a problem? By this I mean making major modifications, and forcing me into the world of a "full conversion" of the receiver. A couple of searches in the forum haven't revealed an answer, and I don't wanna guess. Thanks for any help offered!
  4. Redwood, sounds like we have a similar objective in mind. Here's how I configured mine. Side, standard commie bloc "slide on" scope mount. They have available one's that feature weaver rails both on top for the scope, and side for an accessory. (I'm thinking flashlight...) I have also looked at a scout scope mount manufactured by Scout Scope, Inc. in Cedar Park TX (can't post a link as they are not a "forum" sponsor). But I like the configuration a lot, and maayyy just just switch over to it. Scope recommendation, any good red dot or low power optic. I went with a BSA, 1 x 3.5 power, RGB dot s
  5. CALIF AW Flowchart The link will take you to a flow chart that you can use to comply with our lousy CA gun laws (but great shooting weather:super:.........) here in the PRK. Given it's an AK in sheep's clothing, accuracy is a relative term. Ideally, what do you consider accurate? 1, 2 or 3 MOA at 100 yards? What ammunition are you budgeting for (i.e. Wolf vs. Lapua)? You can make a few additions without bringing down the wrath of CALDoJ. ( I would be more concerned with Fed 922 compliance.) What's the main mission of the weapon? Plinking, home defense, zombie attacks (god I hate them Zombies..
  6. Is your Saiga converted or a stock "sporter"? I ask because I've been thinking of dropping in a new trigger system in my "stock" 7.62. (Because I live in CA, converting to a pistol grip is a no bueno, not if I want to keep my removable magazine.) I'm new to AK's, and I wasn't sure if it matters on the Saiga whether I could do a straight replacement of the factory trigger without having to make major modifications. (Read this as having to move the trigger housing, etc.) A search of the forum wasn't exactly informative........ Any help is appreciated!
  7. JRP, I like the slight radius on the trailing edge. I did my tabs perpendicular to the mag release face. I get good body contact. And by adding a little of the JB Weld to the bottom of the factory mag, it now fits snug also. I was just really concerned about the fit being to sloppy. I just didn't want to cause the damn thing not to go into battery because of a magazine malfunction. That's why the question as to "play". But I guess with an AK/Saiga what's a 1/32" amongst friends..... Since I'm the "PRC" I love to hate you guys who talk about drum magazines. (I guess I could make one but it
  8. Well I have 3 flavors; poly's from Poland, and Romanian, with a CTDrt* 10 round "hacked" POS steel Chinese (at least in a previous life) thrown ion for good measure........ *(Read this as I won't buy these alleged "Made in USA" mag's again.) They all "click" but the only point of contact is at the rear of the magazine, is the bottom part of the "U" shape of the mag release tab. No sides of the "U" shape of the mag release contacts the magazine tab. So that's where I'm getting more "side to side" slop. (By "U" shape, think looking from the top down on to the mag release.) So if I read your
  9. I just modified the mag release on my 7.62 to accept mil surplus AK 47 magazines. I have little to no point of reference for AK's or Saiga's so here goes. With the bolt held all the way back, the AK mag fully inserted and held snug up against the base of the mag release housing on the receiver, I have approximately 1/32 in. clearance between the bottom of the angled tab on the back of the magazine and the top of the magazine release lever. So how much "slop" is allowable? (I guess a little side to side in normal from what I've read here.) Do I stop now? Am I trying to hard to get a precis
  10. Buzz, since I want to add a "J-Brake" style muzzle brake, and mod it to use stock AK magazines, I was opening up the 922r Pandora's Box of compliance issues. So, for before I start making modifications, I thought I'd do a little homework first.
  11. Love the weather, hate the gun laws! (And I'm a native, born in Hollywood USA........) My business may cause me to relocate to TX or LA, and if that happens, I won't have to worry about modification restrictions. (Just hurricanes and water moccasins......) As for the magazine information, "R" was out of stock, but I'll keep checking. Yes the pistol grip is a great feature, but so far, if I stay close to stock, I can avoid the EBR stigma.... But if and when the SHTF I'll be able to adapt into a more "Bad Actor Hostile" configuration. I'll be testing my modification's next weekend, so I may
  12. No, since I live in the "PRC" if I did a conversion, I run the risk of be in violation. I would have to add a tool assisted mag release, etc. as I understand the regulations. I'm trying to keep it a "stock" as possible. I was thinking about changing the existing, Saiga specific" mag lock to a traditional AK part. That way if I sold it, I could return it to the factory configuration, less the bullet guide. All I really want to do for now is add a muzzle break, but I've received mixed opinion's as to it's legality. It's a real PIA out here! I've found that ordering rebuild kits and restricti
  13. I recently modified some clear polymer Bulgarian AK mags to fit my stock 7.62 Saiga. (Since I installed a bullet guide, I have a kinda-sorta hybrid.) But now looking at the polymer mags, that back tab seems "reeealy" skinny. Has anybody else tried this and if to what result? I fear with a full load (10 rounds in my case) it's gonna come apart like a cheap suit at the first sign of stress. A search of the forum did not result in any applicable results. Secondly, not suffering form a fear of commitment, if I go all the way and configure the mag release to accept stock AK 47 magazines only, d
  14. ITK, are you going to do a semi-permanent muzzle brake/flash hider mount, or are you going to take it off every once in a while?
