all helpfull, my buddy wound up finding something more or less fits yalls description. It works pretty well- some kit that came from some mosin forum dealer that mounts a pistol scope onto the old iron sights costs like 160 (with scope).. I don't want to give more info because then it would kind of be advertising. note: editted heavily because my original post seemed a bit too off topic/unrelated

Ah, well I wasn't worried for the dogs, love dogs myself but if they arn't cared for and a menace, sometimes the solution sucks (it's crossed my mind more then a few times, but I couldn't get away with even yelling at them here.. some neighbors are lame). First it outa be set to 2 for lighter rounds if your having FTE, second you outa look at the posts about looking for the gas holes.. On my gun when you look in it looks like only one hole, but if you feel close to the edge of the circle with a safety pin you can find two more.. Azrial.. I've always respected nearly everything you've had to say.. but it is true that the .410 does meet the qualifications to satisfy some consumers, and frankly.. that's what matters.. I'm a 12 owner, and I'm of the same opinion on self defense as you (hence why I own the 12.. I do believe it's more effective).. which is why I own a 12.. But I really reckon a .410 is efficient enough to stop most thiefs and the cut in price is definately a bonus worth considering. I think ultimately this can be summed up in that the .410 is inferior to the 12 for home defence, and thats not a big deal.. a 12 is inferior to a bullet proof robot armed with lazer beams comin out of its ass too.. Point is.. is a .410 sufficient? Probably.. It can kill, and it's probably better then what your attacker is going to be carryng.. friend of mine has me searching mosin nagants for him so he can come to the range with me and have his own gun, but he wants one with a scope in decent condition, and they seem to be a pain to find (maybe I'm not looking right).. Scope mount would be ok as well.

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I couldn't find the topic using the search.. unfortunately both mosin nagant and scope hit so many threads I couldn't find the one I'd like specifically.. Basically my friends getting his first mosin nagant, and we are looking at putting a scope on the thing.. Does the bolt handle have to bend down as on some MNs? or can the normal one ok? and what's involved in mountig the mount. right now I'm going through about 600 a month.. I keep about 500 on hand in case I'm in a hurry/with friends in a hurry, otherwise I just up a pack or two of wally world 100 rds on the way to the range.. Tend to shoot once a week between 75-200 shots depending on how many clays I can find plus what I bring to the range (normally 50) and whether or not I have something cool I want to destroy. Usually burn through less back home, but at college theres no range that will allow me to shoot my AK at more then 1 round per 3 seconds.. but they have no rules against semi auto fire on the shotgun range
