  1. Was in the same boat (first AR, wanted to build one).. Went with a spikes, spent a couple hundred less than you- seems to do everything an AR should. Was going to build myself but a local gunstore had a good deal with spike and I got it at a nice price. Not a fan of spiders though, my one complaint. I like it much better then my friends bushmaster and about the same as another friends 1970s colt (havn't shot a modern one).

I bought it the same week as my WASR-3 and they both hit the range at the same time.. The AR performed well, but I did have a FTF on the first round that was a BITCH to clear.. Not a bad rifle but the WASR-3 really won in my opinion, especially with it's 300 dollars price tag. Accuracy was comparable- I really want to do a real range test for comparisson though, I was kind of just having fun and the wasr's sight was a bit canted and the AR's a bit low.

  2. If your looking to match your s-12, go for it, it will probably be as accurate as any AR in it's price range and more reliable/simple. You already have a few AR's it seems, why not throw some ultra rugged variety in there?

thats why my cheap red dot is co-witness with my irons so if it fails or battery dies i can still aim

You have a red dot on a shotgun? You realize that's like putting a laser on a hand grenade right? :lolol:

Tell that to all the competitive shooters who use em.

I've got a fairly cheap Bushnell red dot, (TRS-25), mounted forward of my rear H&K sight, and it easily cowitnesses. It's not necessary, but it's definitely useful, unlike "a laser on a hand grenade".

As I clearly stated, that is my opinion and you can do whatever you want. I don't shoot in competition, I don't need to, I've got three project vehicles that cost me enough money as it is.

My point is, I don't trust my life to any sights that require batteries...

Don't have a red dot on my shotgun, but that seems to me like a slingshot guy saying "don't trust my life to a projectile that requires gunpowder". Sometimes reliability should be sacrificed for effectiveness.. Although I'm more of an iron guys self myself.

Well this IS America and the slingshot guy is certainly free to feel that way...

"Reliability should be sacrificed" -Hmmmm, sounds like another quote from a dead guy... :lolol:

or the guy in the F-22. Not the most reliable of machines but I don't want to come up against one with an AK.

  5. yeah.. I'm still not sure what's blemished one mine. I messed it up pretty good installing it with a dremel (was more willing to dremel bits of the adapter than the wasr, did both but I think the adapter suffered to compensate for the BG) and it works fantastically. It didn't like surplus steel mags so I ground off what would be more or less unnoticable to the naked eye on the catch block and it now grabs em perfectly.

  6. They may one day kick down my door... but I won't open it and invite them in for tea. And just because they haven't loaded up a cattle car yet, it doesn't make it right for them to start building the lists, or anyone smart for signing their name. Call me old fashioned.

Yeah.. this list idea seems a bit suspicious- but maybe it's to deter people from voicing their opinion. Surely not everyone who is against it being banned has one, hence the list can't be entirely accurate. Dunno, it's what detered me from doing anything, I don't want to be on the ATFs gun enthusiast list regardless of whether or not I own an S-12.

Anyway, the ATF doesn't care about your rights- maybe your representatives do.. But I reckon they don't even read anything at the ATF that conflicts with their forgone conclusion on the study (which originated due to a desire to ban something anyway or they wouldnt of wasted their time. Shouldn't this study have originated from some event to give them reason to question it rather then on what appears to be whim?).

  7. Not much anyone can do.. Maybe a legal battle? Our forefathers would be shooting by now, but if we were it would only magnify the problem.

I really don't know how we're going to get out of this sinkhole. It's got me pissed but what can we really do? My reps are already on our side, but states rights doesn't mean much anymore so I guess it's just a drop in the bucket. The libs will fight forever and take ever inch they can get till we have nothing left, but no ones willing to give us an inch to fight it. And I'm not just talking guns. Our country has been slowly but surely moving away from freedom since the founding fathers, I really don't see us getting back on track.

I really wish we'd get a strong push for states rights... The federal goverment needs to stop calling the shots, this country has too many beliefs to blanket the entire country with one set of rules, the beauty of states is diversity. Then we can live how we want with like-minded people and let the lunatics destroy their own freedoms.

  8. OK First off if you are an AK fan & have not seen "Red Dawn " then WTF are you waiting for .... I still watch that movie !!! :super:

2nd What The HELL are they Thinking !! North Korea ?? for real ? when I first read this a few weeks ago I was soo disappointed ..... China would have been believable..

havn't seen it but doesn't the original use Valmets?

Still cool, and sitll pretty much AK

edit: also, changing it from china to a chinese friendly country probably isn't going to soften the blow to chinese markets that much. Wtf

  9. For those of you that think this is OK I ask you this.......Are you ready for your cavity search if they decide there is a high enough risk of a bomb being smuggled in someone's butt? You think that can't happen? Nobody thought we would be where we are today either. It would have been absolutely unthinkable. You are being "conditioned" to accept increasing invasion of your personal privacy. Now, bend over and grab your ankles. It's for your own good.

Or just say fuck it with airport security and roll the dice when you fly whether or not your plane will make it to your destination. The underwear bomber had a sufficient amount of plastic explosives in his drawers to bring down the aircraft it he had employed and detonated it correctly instead of lighting it on fire. Just saying.

Everytime you get in your car there's a chance you won't make it to your destination, and it's a bigger chance then happening to be on the same plane as the underwear bomber, who wasn't stopped by security anyway- they will always find a way if they are really determined. Screw it- everytime you WALK somewhere there's a possibility of being mugged and killed.. Airplanes just make for better media.. IN fact regardless of who's on your flight theres still a better chance of the plane going down by other causes than a terrorist.

I understand that some safety precautions are neccesary, but for so minor a risk we are giving up unprecendented freedoms. This harassment is not worth the potential upside. It's not likely to stop the problem- only deter it, and the problem is statistically VERY minor.. Yet all of us have to feel the effects of it.
