"There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown." Gen 6:4 He was manufactured in a nuclear facility

Been a while since I posted any update. Big props and congratulations to Tony Rumore and saigasolutions.com Both designs are excellent, and are light years ahead of my own personal project. Taking into consideration that both groups are so close to a commercially viable product, and I don't have enough time to dedicate to the project anymore, I've decided to bow out. I am impressed with the camaraderie of the members of this board, and the honorable way the majority conducts themselves. In this feminized modern society where honor has little value, it's rare to find real men

Any competent machinist can cut and thread a barrel. Just make sure you specify the thread to be cut and barrel length.

Tony, how did your springs feed?
junkyardblacksmith replied to junkyardblacksmith's topic in Saiga-12
I think my follower is the main problem as well. It also seems too loose, and tends to lean back too far. I too had to get back on track a while and make some money. -
Rumore, Curious how the feed test went on your prototype mag. I am having a bit of a problem with irregular spring compression. Thinking I might have to adjust the lengths a bit. Wanted to know how you faired.

AR15.com is full of a bunch of gun snobs and pricks. I used to post there all the time under another name, untill I got tired of being flamed for every question I asked. AR15.com made me into an 'anti-gun culture' gun owner. To the majority of those guys, owning a gun is about nothing more than being in a club, where they can show off. They hold no higher principles about the ownership of weapons. Can you post the reply's and links to wht you posted there?

For me the buck stops at physical confiscation. Where do you draw the line? To me, the consequences of being unarmed are just as bad or worse for myself, my family and for the country as a whole, as those consequences that result from having to kill a federal lap dog, to retain my firearms. I am sure many of the Nazi German soldiers and Russian secret police that went door to door confiscating weapons and arresting political dissadents where just as young, mislead and baby faced as our own soldiers. But history doesn't make excuses for them. Why then do we do we hold our own at a lower sta

Just posting to let you guys know the project is ongoing, but at a much slower rate. Some serious personal business has shifted my efforts else where. And, with all the insanity going on in New Orleans, I have been working double time to build myself a spread out in the boonies to bug out to, if the SHTF in my area. It's hard to believe what is going on there. The confiscation of innocent peoples guns is an obvious attempt by our corrupt gov't, to set the precedent to disarm the public anytime there is a disaster, anywhere.

I am still trying to do what I can for the cause. I am in the process of trying to buy an S-12. They are scarce is my area, and it's making it hard. I have bent out a semi-working prototype, but I can't get my hands on a gun long enough to do the proper amount of testing. Like I said in a previous post, there are dark forces at work. I honestly feel the feds have been up to somthing, and have scared importers into thinking they could lose money if they move forward. Why the $%^& are AR-15 mags still the same price as they were before the AWB? Why are things still being

Prototype Steel Hi-Caps UPDATE June-16
junkyardblacksmith replied to junkyardblacksmith's topic in Saiga-12
I have the feeling that it is a requirement to be a complete prick to work at some of these places i've been calling. I can understand the frustration of the vendors, due to the high volume of people asking for somthing that isn't there, but damn man. Some of them were just friggin a-holes. -
I am now convinced that there is global conspiracy against the saiga weapon owners of the west. I was attemping to procure an S-12 5 round magazine this week (get ready to cringe) so I could cut it in half. I need to work out feed geometry. I have probably called and emailed at least 50 seperate businesses and suppliers world wide. NADA. What the hell is going on? The people I have gotten into contact with are just as stumped. They tell me Izhmash is not answering any questions either. Everyone says they just get a generic email, with a mission statement It looks as though I am going

Prototype Steel Hi-Caps UPDATE June-07
junkyardblacksmith replied to junkyardblacksmith's topic in Saiga-12
Dude, they are in the early prototype phase. I can't promise anything. I have experience hand building mags, I just saw a market and decided to take advantage if I could. I don't know what the friggen hell is wrong with manufacturers right now. It is obvious that people would pay good money for saiga-12 guns and accessories, yet they choose to ignore a highly profitable market. I wish i had more money to build my own company. I could cash in like no tomorrow, on the hunger gun owners have for hi-cap weapons and accessories. A major problem with the gun industry, is they all clamor f -
Built a small, custom sheet metal brake out of angle iron for shaping protoype. It needs a shear. Working on spring jig. Still waiting on bud to contact me about using his gun and mags in project. Will post photos when I can find my friggin digi camera.

What is your preferred capacity S-12 magazine?
junkyardblacksmith replied to junkyardblacksmith's topic in Saiga-12
I've been talking about that for years. You could still use a plastic hull(thank god for high temperature nylon). Just modify the rim. Thing is though, the industry doesn't give a flying &*$% about the private consumer, because they know eventually the feds will finally win the "gun rights war". It won't be untill the military demands a rimless shotgun shell, that we will see one. We'll just have to make the son of a bitch ourselves Back to the grindstone... -
You can use a bluing solution that is easily found at walmart. A good substitute is flat black, high temp engine block enamel, if you are painting somthing that is parkerized. Spray it into a little container until it pools up, then used a cotten swab to dab it on. Best thing I have ever used is somthing called M-Nu, that my brother brought back from the corps. I have yet to find any sold yet.

Look good to me.

If you are going to use a mill to true the tip of the barrel, an HSS endmill should work fine, since most gunbarrels are about 40 Rockwell hardness. I reckon you are going to clamp the barrel in horizontally and use the side of the endmill to cut. You will need a long enough endmill that is rigid. I'd look for one that is approx 1-1/2 to 2 inches long and at least 1/2inch diameter for rigidity. Don't take too big of a cut and it should work out fine. Use a good square to make sure you have that barrel level in the vice.

I have never been big on cuting barrels with saws. They are difficult to get a strait, clean cut. I have always used a pipe cutter or engine lathe. But if you can use a saw to do the job well, go for it. I used a large pipe cuter to slice 6 inches off a single shot and it worked great. The only thing I had to do was file down the edges a bit, where the pressure of the cutter has distored that area slightly.

What is your preferred capacity S-12 magazine?
junkyardblacksmith replied to junkyardblacksmith's topic in Saiga-12
The mag of the spectre is 50rds if I remember correctly. The length was no more than that of a hi-cap glock mag, just twice as wide. I have dreamed of owning a full size, quad stacked .17HMR or .22LR handgun for years now. To me, this would be the ultimate "for fun" pistol. You could probably get 100+ catridges in a gun like this. Anyway, I gotta hit the hay. Got a long day of drinking beer and bending sheet metal. I've already got a pretty decent design for a 8+rd strait mag on paper. My idea is to design the prototype in a manner which is easy for you non machinists to build yourse -

I feel your pain. This is a project I have had in mind for a long time though. We should be able to get at least somthing out of it.
