  1. Well, I will reply as someone who owns both Surefire and Promag magazines for my Saiga 223. I own six 30 round magazines in total, 3 Promag and 3 Surefire magazines. The 3 Promags I have had to replace due to the issue I described earlier in this thread. Now, with the new magazines from Promag I did make the physical changes to the bullet guide. Now that the bullet guide has been changed, I have no issues with the magazines.
  2. My 223 seems to love the stuff. I put 200 rounds of it through mine and it was fine. I think I had three no-fires and that was it.
  3. I know it's going to sound like I am shilling for them, but contacts Clips-R-Us (clipsrus@hotmail.com | 361-939-9229). They were selling SureFire 223 magazines at the Dulles gun show here in Northern VA for $25 each.
  4. The basic difference comes down to quality of the product. The biggest problem you will have with ProMag is that the bullet guide on them snaps off very easily without modifications to the guide itself. If you are up to the task of shaving down the guide, ProMags are okay to use. Most people prefer not to have to fix defects that shouldn't be there to begin with.
  5. Let me guess, Dark Sun? Yup! Picked it up for $337 out the door. Now i need a MSA adapter and my buddy Cobra 7.62 to get me all set-up! I need to get me some black bulgy 5.56 mags. Anyone know a good place to pick up some of them? I THINK I saw some at the show. Email clipsrus@hotmail.com, they were at the show, that one big magazine vendor in the back. I picked up a couple SureFire 223 magazines from them for $26 each. I keep thinking I should have gone back and gotten more but I'll wait.
  6. It's me again! I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Advanced Tech Mak-90 stock? I'm thinking about getting a trigger conversion done and putting that stock on. I like the look of it and I'm thinking it'd be a good stock for me.
  7. From what I've gathered, you can still use the original magazine if you change out that part, since the original magazines are low cartridge count to begin with. It's generally considered a better idea to get several parts changed out, say the trigger group and gas piston, so you can use whatever magazines you have. This is mainly due to the fact that some people are paranoid as hell or like to get a cartridge guide installed so they can use magazines from all over the world. Honestly, if you know you are going to use nothing but SureFire magazines, get the one part replacement done and get
  8. What's so special about a dimpled Saiga? I was looking at the pictured and noted mine has the same dimples, just wondering what's so special about it.
  9. Figured I'd share this here. Mississippi Auto Arms is having a sale on their Surefire 30 round magazines. Basically a little more then $10 off, but that's not bad. http://www.mississippiautoarms.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=274_360&products_id=142
  10. I bought mine simply because of the feel of the rifle and the ammo. Walking about the NoVA gun show, I counted a dozen vendors selling 1000 rounds of 223 at $250 or less, and that helped sell me on the rifle. The fact that I can also match it up with an AR-15, which I was in the process of building anyway, sold me quicker on it. Looking at it now, I admit I bought the Honda Civic of rifles, but I have no problems with that at all. I can buy parts easily, can change the look without any real issues, and working on the rifle couldn't be easier.
  11. As a fellow newski, welcome to the fun. You'll enjoy it a lot.
  12. Yeah, I was talking to the CSS folks about it, and the one I want is just bolt in, and it's the same length over all as the stock buttstock. And I'm find with that.
  13. That would be the RIGHT thing to do, I admit that. I'm just being a wishy washy ass now trying to figure out what I want to do. Besides, I am going to go ACE skeleton stock on both my Saiga 223 and my AR-15 223. Just need to figure out the best way to do so.
  14. Anyone out there happen to use either the ACE or the DPH skeleton stock set from Carolina Shooters Supply? I'm looking at picking up one of the ACE set to replace the factory stock and just wondered if anyone could give me a thumbs up or thumbs down, and maybe a picture.
