  1. Thanks for the info. I was hoping to keep it as stock as I could, but I guess I need to start converting to keep it legal. I went to look at the gunwiki 922 site but it is down. Anyone know where I can find more info on Saigas and 922? Or at least a list of the compliance parts on a Saiga?
  2. I tried to find out about 922r compliance in regards to just adding foreign mag, but the sticky 922r thread links dont seem to work. Can someone here either send me in the right direction for another 922r site, or let me know if just having foreign mags makes it illegal. It is completely stock other than the new sights and the bullet guide I would be putting in. thanks
  3. UPDATE** well the drum is almost in. Stupid tool broke on me...twice! First one was my fault. The receiving end slipped and blocked the drum's exit, snapped one of the arms clean off. I continued to use the remaining arm to tighten but when the resistance became too much I stopped for fear of snapping the other arm and leaving it locked on! So then I decided to try using the tool on the end, but the mildest amount of pressure snapped one side clean off as well. So there it sits, just in far enough to put the site in, but not center. Damn.
  4. Cool thanks. I would like to use a steel 10 round mag in it. Does Surefire make a steel 10 round mag? Or is there a better on to get?
  5. Can you still use the factory mag once you do the conversion? And does just having the guide affect the 922 compliance?
  6. I am not sure on all the differences in AK mags, but I got a line on some. Does the Saiga accept double stack Chinese AK mags with a bullet guide? Is every bullet guide the same or is there a particular one I should look into?
  7. Well the C-clamp didnt work. There was no way to keep the punch from getting askew when it was tightened down. I am going to buy the windage tool, that looks like the best bet. Thanks for all the help, tips and buying advice!!
  8. Hmmm, I can get a C clamp. Rig it with a punch on one side and maybe a wooden block on the other side? What kind of mcguyver rig would you suggest?
  9. Ya there is. I got the XS Big Dot sighting system. Comes with the BigDot screwed into the drum.
  10. I got the front sight screwed out, but what about the housing, does that gets knocked out with a punch/hammer? I been whacking on it and it barely moved.
  11. Thanks for the vid and tip about the dowel. That looks pretty easy. I finally got my honey-do's done and am going to try it. So does the front sight just "unscrew" out as if you were adjusting it? And then pop the big fat tube thing out? Edit: Got the rear sight in. Getting it out was easy, I used the ruler method and it was a sinch. Getting it back in, well that was anther story, but it's home. So do I need a special tool for the front sight?
  12. Santa was good to me, he left me the XS Sighting system and it is time to install it. As I am a noob to Saiga's and conversions of any type, I was looking for a little advice on how to remove the stock irons? Nothing in the manual. How do you remove the front sight? The rear leaf looks like there is a channel for it to drop down into once stood straight up. Is the rear sight spring loaded or is there a lever/release to allow it to drop down and remove? Thanks again for the noob answers.
  13. Damn, you guys are good! Great work, that is exactly what I was looking for Rhodes/Post-Apoc. What do you guys think about using the two together, Krebbs RS with the XS front sight? Good set up? I think so, at least until LaRue comes back online... As far as the XS goes, anyone (PostApoc??) have an opinion on the staight vs rounded fs? thanks again for the great tips!!
  14. Hey all, just got my first Saiga and I love it! Now comes the big desicion, do I stick with iron sights, go with a low profile red dot sight like the LaRue IronDot or a full-fledged red dot scope. Personally, I love using iron sights and my first trip to the range proved this, I was hitting dead center all day form 50Y. But alas, the Saiga's rear flat sight leaves a lot of room for play during quick target aquisition. I think I would love the LaRue since it allows the use of the iron sights in addition to a snap on target red dot. However, it does not seem like these are available anymore...wh
  15. Good looking setup. I like that site, is that the LaRue IronDot?
