  1. To bring this back from the dead: I am not knowledgable about the rifle length tube/stock and how they work on an AK adapter. Is it possible to use an M16 stock with one of these or would it spin around the tube b/c there isn't that nub for the stock to fit into?
  2. Don't forget your 922r compliance. It is a bit trickier for the S20 since US mags aren't super common. Ironwood designs has nice US made wood... Like has been said, you'll have to sand out some material from the inside of the lower HG and the Dinzag HG retainer is a nice choice.. It's easy enough that I could do it and I am not particularly competent.
  3. Those Brenneke 3" magnums sound pretty badass.. Edit: The fps appears to be a typo, NM.
  4. Get the FAB defense stock and tube if you have enough other US made parts. It works for me - you get a recoil reducing tube and stock for about $100. What are your plans for the Ironwood furniture? I put some on my S-20 and I don't think I will ever have a tacticool HG ever again. It is sharp! I "fit" a 74 HG...
  5. I'm glad I'm not the only one who just crammed the old TG back in. It fits pretty tight!
  6. http://forum.saiga-12.com/uploads/gallery/gallery/album_698/gallery_21543_698_962757.jpg The US made wood turned out sweet bishes. I think one hammer spring leg might be bent a bit... Big ups to Cobra for his advice. If I ever see the SKS steel upper HG somewhere I will ad it in his honor. I would like a poly choke and some mags to round out the package.
  7. I just saw that Czechpoint has Czech vz 58 stripped receivers for $350+shipping+FFL and that Apex has barrels for $50 now. A parts kit will be $100+ (likely $150+). W/ all that and the difficulty of the build I would just buy a finished rifle somewhere unless you just really wanted a project to work on (nothing wrong with that). I think people that pay top $ for someone to convert their Saigas are crazy though - that is easier and cheaper to do yourself...
  8. Wow, looks great. I should have bought one while they were so cheap...
  9. OK, that is what I was thinking. What size bit did you use? Thanks.
  10. This might be a retarded question but can I reuse the screws off of the factory buttstock and buttplate on the wood? Also, is it better to drill a pilot hole 1st and then put in the screw or can I just screw it in? I know jack crap about wood...
  11. Would the size of the retainer needed be the same for both the 20 and the 12? Are there other handguards for the 12 that will fit? I have no 12 to compare it to. I am king of the orphan Saigas - I have a 308 and a 20. I really like the light weight of my 20 and it shoots great but it has been somewhat challenging to find 20 parts on my shoestring budget. My wife likes to shoot it as well, which is a bit problematic since A) she likes things tacticool like her AR and she is a shrimp so some buttstock adjustability might be called for. A screaming good deal on the wood would shut her
  12. D'oh, I never find what I am looking for when I search this forum!
  13. I am thinking about going the wood route on my upcoming conversion but I know nothing about the wood furniture. Does the material matter? Is hardwood better than laminate or vice versa? What are you favorite wood styles for stocks (i.e. you think it has the best ergos)? How much fitting is required to get an AK wood handguard onto the S20? I am aware of the retainer issue, if anyone has a cheap option to remedy this it would be glorious, since that is why I am liking the wood approach in the 1st place. I have taken care of the 922r concerns, so let's not beat that dead horse on here...
  14. A belated thanks for clearing that up! Does anyone have a nifty graphic for buckshot by any chance? A choke is on my Christmas list since I'd like to blast some geese. I don't think that brakes do that much for a shotgun performance wise, although they may look cool if that is important to you. Not that there's anything wrong with that!
