  1. That is a nice looking rifle, I am a big fan of wood furniture. I have wood on my 7.62 I went with poly on my 5.45 for a change and It's not bad either but that looks awesome with the mag. It does look like a BakeLite.
  2. I didn't have paper but recently I took my 5.45 out to just function test after reconfiguring it, and using a real 74 brake, I was hitting a metal T-post staked as a lot marker at about 75yds wiith the irons. These are accurate rifles. I'm not the best shot in the world either but I was hitting a roughly 2" stake from that far away just standing. Compared to my 7.62, this thing is a precison target rifle! Lol.
  3. There's a new poll on CNN website asking "should congress ban the use of high-cap magazines?" It isn't looking good. Go to their website and about half-way down on the right you'll see it. Make sure you vote "NO," and please spread the word on your other forums. http://www.cnn.com/
  4. My 5.45 was like your's is Sharkforce, like you said it won't be easy. I am very used to using different tools and drills so I got mine in with a regular hand drill but if you aren't comfortable then get someone with a machine or a drill press to stick it for you. You could try to mark it like Zeroselect said but you'd have to know if you're filing it right and that isn't going to be easy to gauge by eye once the mark came off. At least with the block on you can see exactly where to drill and it will automatically be to depth. You could index it and tack-weld it also but, yuk (<- m
  5. I think that's too vague. There's so many different .223/5.56 rounds that we can't just say 5,45 is better. There's even different 5,45 rounds. I'd agree to an extent but people do reload using worked .222 bullets. Why? I don't know. There's a trillion rounds of surplus probably. Lol. That's an exageration but you get what I mean.
  6. +1 for him. Got stuff from him on AKforums.
  7. I got 5 of those Bulgy's from AIM. Very nice. All are new and packed in oil (not cosmo!). Fit well in my Romanian. Feed reliably. No issues. The followers are plastic though, but whatever. For $8 a mag I'll live with it.
  8. Got a question: Say I set the sights @ a 200m battle zero like an AR. Then this chart applies: Zero at 200 meters (sight set at 2) 50m = 1.2 100m = 2 150m = 2 200m = 0 250m = -3.9 300m = -9.8 Look at the ones I highlighted - they mean bullet drop or bullet rise before the 200m zero? It's rise, correct?
  9. Use a straightedge, a laser, or just string from the rear sight leaf to the front sight post (what I did). Get it PERFECT if you have to tap it lightly use a rubber mallet or a wrapped hammer and quadruple check looking down the sights. You can fine adjust the point of impact with the front sight post later with an AK frontsight-adjustment tool. And, *some* Saigas have a weird cant slightly to the rear-sight. I don't know if it's a trunion issue or the sight-leaf itself but from the experiences of others, this apparently doesn't affect the point of impact of the bullet since the notch for
  10. I used a string (LOL!) and for the FSB I had it going from the rear sight notch to the front-sight post. Got it aligned perfect with rubber mallet and then drilled and pinned. It's prety dead accurate, I couldn't believe it. You may find you have to adjust the sight post with a tool for it but whatever...
  11. Yea, +1 for Hogue grip. I wish they had a plug for the bottom though.
  12. Here's some more I found: SilverBear http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZOPGdLKNMc 5,45 vs 5.56 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuAvOMJ038g
  13. Right on. I'm using a Krebs next time.
  14. I had to replace the slide-stop spring on mine twice. It came broken the first time then I replaced it again, then when the replacement broke I put in an aftermarket one with a different shape (better) that bends around the trigger-guard cross pin. If you get a CZ-82, be carefull when you disamantle the gun as this spring is easy to break and not easy to get in.
  15. This: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=60667 Not everyone's had trouble but not every rifle is exactly the same.
  16. I like plum. I happened to have black stuff so I used black on mine but in the future I might swap it out. That's the Brownells retainer isn't it? You didn't have to file the threads? Are you gon'na put a threaded FSB on?
  17. I'm not a pro but looks like you have everything. You can re-use the hammer spring and FCG pins. I'm telling you, do NOT use tapco retaining plate in case you're thinking about it... do you have a grip nut and bolt/screw? Mine came with one (Hogue). I never tried, I kinda want to try but it seems way easier to just put a bolt-on one on there instead. Works just as good for me but you don't have the sling-loop ( I used Brownells one). Good luck! It's not hard and it's fun too. Post pics when you're done! We need more 5.45 pics!
  18. Ha ha! + 100! Exactly what I did. I took the side rails off mine though also and now it has more "vent" holes. Lol. My rifle is still front heavy though. My 7.62 is light as a feather but my 5,45 feels a pound or two heavier, even w/out the muzzle brake. I'm not a fan of putting bullsh!t all over my rifles and I don't like the impracticality of the MI rail either, even though they look cool and I did think about it at first. I want to be able to take the gastube off in 2 seconds without having to find allen wrenches and loktite for the bolts. The LHV47 is probably the best thing I've foun
  19. Isn't the barrel pin strong enough to hold the barrel in place for pressing the gasblock off? (I've never had to do it, just wondering...)
  20. - What do you "need" first? I'm not a handgun type of huy but I got a CZ82 from AIM before. I love it! Shoots great. I recently got a Yugo Tok from SOG and that thing = shit. I think I got my 91/30 from AIM too, a hex one. Pat Burns at gunsnammo dotkom has some nice Finn Mosins. I got an Izzy M44 from there awhile ago before I got the handgun. Probably my favorite rifle.
  21. - Yea, I did the same. I think .223 is okay but 5.45 impresses me more. Then I got a case of it for $240 and was even happier. - People interested in the 5,45 uppers for the AR should know most the twist rates were about 1-in-8 on a regular barrel. That's pretty fast to be shooting the lighter surplus. I think that's why most people I communicated with were using the heavier new production 5.45 rounds in their AR's.
