If I could have anything that I wanted, it would be for my youngest daughter to hug my neck and say "I love you Daddy". She died in a head-on collision with a tractor trailer in 2004. Sometimes life throws us a few things we don't like, but have to live with.

In my instance, for a child that had heart surgery at eight days and then crashed at thirteen days, you experience the full yank and polarity change from elation to despair to hope to resignation and depression. Parents die before their children--that's the rule, not the other way around. Otherwise, it messes you up in multiple ways--psychologically and religiously. Questions your faith--why me? Why this punishment? It ultimately ended in a divorce.

As mean as I was when I was younger, I honestly felt like I had gotten what I deserved. I never did wonder why it happened and I convinced myself that I would understand it someday. It was very humbling for me, but hardened me. Now, short of my other daughter dying, I know the worst in life is behind me.
