  1. I won't be spending $1,500 on a conversion and I want to do the conversion myself.. Half the fun of owning these things is the fiddle-factor.. I just like the look of that gun and will most likely reproduce it as best I can.. I call it fondling, but I feel ya, lol.
  2. I have used one of UTG's older quads on a Romy AK and it is still rock solid after a few hundred rounds. No sign of giving up or loosening up anytime soon. The new ones are supposed to be US made. I prefer the factory handguard with the rail on it, but would spring for the highest quality rail I could get for the money if I were going with aluminum. OP, If I was spending $1500, I would get an S12 from Lonestar Arms. His conversions actually run with cheap birdshot and he is quite meticulous.
  3. Leapers/UTG rail.. Take note everyone. This is the first time I've ever been right in my entire life. Does this mean I get a free UTG rail system? or a free HD S12? ....
  4. 1202.... Happy 38th Birthday! I'm not far behind you.... I just saw the other thread.... Before I saw the other thread, I was thinking.... "I hope it is a 20 round Promag drum, so I can use it, post how well it works, and someone will start a flame war." What a co-inky-dink....
  5. Looks like a modified UTG quad to me.... I'm probably wrong. Find out and let us know
  6. Is four FTFs out of 205 rounds of cheap birdshot considered acceptable reliability? Should I leave them alone, try some new mags, or try some better ammo? This ^^^^ was the whole point of my posting and only one person here responded to the questions (Thank you, Spartacus). Why am I surprised?
  7. OK, I'll come clean with why. I had suspicions about what may work with my S12 and I was fairly confident that it would solve my problem, but just wasn't sure as I am new to these wonderful weapons. This modification was not posted here. A member here contacted me, confirmed my suspicions, and asked that I keep that particular information in confidence. There is more to it than meets the eye. Things are tough right now.... even for some of the business members here. They don't show up to work and get a paycheck no matter what happens. I'm sure some of them, like myself, miss the days of being
  8. Some of the things I have done were discussed here, but I feel are completely obvious anyways. I added a few things I thought would be beneficial and did a few things that I believe have been overlooked.... or may be well kept secrets by the real tuners here. I will say that the design of the BCG is what it is because of cost and time savings. Much can be gained there. I am in an industry where technique, design, and process make you stand out from the competition and my trade secrets are well kept. My competition keeps their secrets well and I couldn't care less how or what they do, but I
  9. I took my S12s to a range today for some reliability testing.... in the rain. Both S12s are converted, not by me, and both have stock internals with the exception that one of them (Saiga #1)has a Chaos puck and both have Tapco FCGs. Saiga #1 has had some gas related work done to it (I call it Saiga #1 because it was the first one I bought). Saiga #2 has had gas work and hours of Dremeling, filing, and sanding done to the action. Saiga #2 was the first to be fired today. I shot 80 rounds of Walmart Winchester 2 3/4" 3 dram eq 7 1/2 shot 1200fps 100 round bulk pack, 100 rounds of Federal 2
  10. This grip is used, but is in very nice condition. It has slight wear on the bottom of the grip, see pic. It hasn't been modified, hacked, filed, and there are no idiot marks where the screw goes in. $80 shipped I also have a Cobra gas tube rail with ghost ring sight for $60 shipped First I'll take it here gets it. No fee for Paypal. USPS MO is fine too. Trades considered. I am interested in: Saiga 12 barrel threading die Chaos puck S12 flash hider Russian 8 round mag in functional condition unmodified What AK or S12 stuff do you have? PM me after you post.
  11. I have already done work to the gas system, bolt, carrier, feedramp, and FCG. It is as slick as owl snot. I just wanted to eliminate a little more resistance from the action and make the hammer strike a little more squarely. I may take just enough off to get a square strike and leave it be. I'll pass on the free food and lodging, lol.
  12. At first glance I thought, "Wow, is that stock long....". Then, I read the 6'6" frame statement and the stock should be just right in that case. Looks nice. When will you post pics of your next S12?.... you are in denial if you think there won't be a next one, lol.
  13. I'm usually a pretty detailed person, but I totally forgot about the hammer needing to go far enough to engage the disconnector. I was only concerned about trigger reset. You may have saved me the cost of another hammer and an extended stay at "Club Fed", lol. Thank you for pointing that out and for the detailed pics.
  14. I need a pic of a factory S12 hammer. The main area I am concerned with is the area that strikes the firing pin. A side by side comparison with a G2 hammer would be a great help. I have a Tromix modified FCG and noticed that the hammer does not strike flush with the tail of the bolt when the bolt is fully closed. It hits the top of the bolt tail and doesn't quite push the firing pin all the way in. I want to reprofile the hammer and I need some sort of idea what the original hammer profile looks like. Any help appreciated.
  15. Fast payment and excellent communication. Thank you Shockwave.
  16. There are always those people that say you should never try to clear your home and you should wait until the Police get there. I know my home well and have cleared it plenty as my alarm likes to go off for no apparent reason, a few times a year. I treat every time like it is "go time". I'm like you, I'm not waiting for anything, the home will get cleared immediately. The door getting damaged sucks, but at least you aren't telling us that they made off with you babies (weapons, lol). Good shot, chalk one up for the good guys.
  17. I fully understand what you are thinking, but you don't seem to comprehend what my goal is. My goal isn't to shoot weapons at home for fun.... like some yahoo. I want to test fire and ensure that when I do want to shoot for fun somewhere else.... it is fun and I'm not at the bench tinkering and cursing the whole time. When I can get this thing to go through a ten round mag fast.... I will happily drive that hour away to have a little fun. The only range here that allows shotguns is ghey, 2 seconds between each shot. I wouldn't dare bring any other weapon to the "rainbow range". The range I wou
  18. Good idea to post this on a public forum. Knowingly breaking the law is a HUGE no-no. You can't be serious. The mag and the reciever are a dead giveaway. 5.45x39.... nice try, lol! .22 cal Berman Sport Guns AK clone. YOU can't be serious.... Also, I think you may need to work on your reading comprehension. I never said I was going to "knowingly" break the law. I stated what one option for some would be, that it is a felony, and I don't want to try my luck. Reading is a major component of communicating here. Try it.
  19. If I get a new weapon or make a change to one, I have to go at least 15 miles to a range that doesn't allow shotguns. If I have a shotgun to shoot, I have to go about 25 miles to a range. If I go to my freind's house, it's about 55 miles. It really sucks, especially with a Saiga 12, to get where you can fire it and you are experiencing FTEs on every shot. If at the range, you just payed good money to shoot a bolt action shotgun and the one that allows shotguns will not let you rapid fire anyway. It is getting to the point that I am considering building a small basement at a nearby property tha
  20. "Disturbing the peace" seems to be the favorite way the Police deal with it around here (not a felony). The last time we fired around here we just got a "don't do it again", but I don't want the Police to waste their time thinking there is some kind of emergency like last time. Last time was like WW3 too, lol. I just want to find a discreet way to pop off enough rounds to establish whether or not the weapon is ready to go to a place where I can shoot. A have a freind that lives about an hour away, but if the weapon doesn't work it will be a wasted trip.
  21. I live in the burbs of a fairly large city and fring inside city limits is a no-no. I need to figure out a way to test fire my S12 at home as most of the ranges here either do not allow shotguns, birdshot, or rapid fire. I'm not worried about firing at targets. I just need to be able to do a mag dump or two to test reliability. The sound is all I am worried about. I have a few buildings on the property, but they are not well insulated. How deep does water have to be to absorb the energy of cheap birdshot? I'm not worried about the splash. Any help would be appreciated. I'm scared to go in the
  22. I agree. It is excellent for it's intended purpose and makes converting a breeze, but just isn't for me. I cut the trigger guard down, made a hole, and put an ATI grip on there that was laying around. I don't like it much better than a SAW grip, but it is better than the ATI Dragunov stock that was on the Saiga before. I may grab a few of the MD Molot copies. They look like keepers.
  23. Get the weld-on guard. That's the one we use on factory Tromix guns. The DIY guard is designed to be a fool-proof way for a nontechnical person to mount a pistol grip, and is a very successful product. Tromix stands behind it's products 100% and is unrivaled in customer service. The triggerguard bolting on is fine as I'm not fond of welding on tempered steel. The grip screw nut situation leaves few options for a grip. That is what I am not impressed with.... I hate SAW grips. I know you guys put out good stuff and have been around since Baby J was born, but it looks like this n
  24. Your site is "bad juju" for me. I've been wanting to buy a few things from you, but I am scared I'll get carried away and there is so much to choose from. This grip issue may be the straw that breaks my back, lol.
