  2. Well damn! SGM makes the only truly reliable mags with normal (for us) capacity for .223 Saigas w/o a bullet guide. I sure wish the importers would throw us some of the mags like in the picture.
  3. Some good responses. I've considered threading it myself, but I'd rather have a professional company do it by way of a lathe. I would like to be able to use a can if I wanted to without any risk of damaging the device -- I want the threads to be perfect; and I don't feel 100% in my ability to guarantee that. I've thought about replacing that front sight block with one that has built in threads, as an alternative, but haven't researched that too much.
  4. I sent this message to Gemtech (they offer high quality barrel threading services -- supposedly): I have a Saiga .223 (AK variant). Do you guys have any experience in threading Saiga barrels? This is what was sent to me in response: We do not. The AK type rifles are notorioiusly difficult to thread. Regards, Gemtech Techstaff I never flat out asked them whether or not they would thread my rifle, but based off of their response, I'd say that's a negative. I was surprised. I was under the impression that I'd get a response along the lines of, "We more commonly thread pis

  6. Both guns have their place. I find it funny how many AR makers are switching over to the tried and true gas piston system from direct impingement -- and charging more for it (less parts, more money?). Get both an AR and an AK if you're really having a hard time deciding. They'll last forever anyway, so why not? I know we're talking $$$ here, but so long as you don't go out buying pairs of rifles all the time, it may not be so bad of an idea. My personal preference goes toward the AK though. An AK will not shoot as tight as an AR, but from a practical standpoint, it is as accurate as it needs t
  7. My Saiga doesn't have that Hermes stamp. Just "Legion" and the "Russian American Armory" covered up by some unique cross-hatch looking metal work.
  8. Glad to hear it can be taken care of with some careful grinding. Thanks everyone.
  9. I seem to remember an influx of posts concerning the lack of availability for Saiga firearms in general. I guess this problem has slowly faded into submission. I've seen Saiga rifles in stock since that topic died and ended up getting another one for myself. I love 'em. ANYWAY... The Russian American Armory stamp has clearly been rolled over with some sort of pattern. If held at an angle, some of the letters from RAA are visible. On another portion of the receiver there exists another name: "Legion." I found that interesting. Is everyone else seeing similar instances of this on the new
  10. Is there a simple way to disable the bolt hold open feature on the SGM Tactical magazines? It's neat at first, but having the bolt slam into the breach each time a mag is removed is a bit ridiculous. I love the mags overall, but I don't like that feature from a combat perspective.
