  1. Thanks Sir5 for the info. I've been looking around a lot today for red dot sights. Is there a particular brand you'd recommend that's affordable? On a side note, I shot my friend's AR this weekend fitted with a Trijicon ACOG and that thing was sweet. I have no experience with red dot sights, so I can't really tell you in detail. Also, I tend to shy away from red dot a little bit. I just like having a crosshair better, and I'm sure I can train myself to acquire targets fast with pretty much anything. I think the whole 'fast target acquisition reticle' stuff is true to some extent,
  2. OP, if you're set on using optics I'd recommend a red dot sight of some kind OR a low power scope. Whether you choose variable or not is your choice, but that's what I'd do. The "lower" variable should be 2 max, for versatility at very close to medium range... I'm looking at scopes with 1.5 or lower as the low end variable... there are some (like the bushnell 6500 elite) that have a WIDE range (1.25-8), but it doesn't come cheap. The reason you'd want this is the lower magnifications have a much wider field of view, and so having them accessible is nice when you're shooting moving target
  3. One the subject of red dot sights, what's your take on millet (DMS)?
  4. Wait wait... does this mean that you don't really need to convert the VER21, or does it just have the "AK" trigger pull? Like if you wanted to change stocks, would you have to still do some conversion to use a 'non saiga' stock?
  5. Good bump... I missed this... I'm curious to know, as well... no pun intended.
  6. Alternatively, you can, instead of buying a whole new (overrated) rifle and THEN installing an aftermarket product (tech sights), skip straight to step 2 with the AK style tech sights available on their site. Seems like you already have a saiga, so perhaps that will be a good option for you, OP. Also, for practicing general marksmanship I'd go for a .22lr of some kind. It's not going to be the same as .308 or .223 (probably a better choice of cartridge if you're getting a rifle for the sole purpose of 'pre training' for the US military since that's what they use), but it's going to
  7. Yeah, it may mean something completely different to their society than ours, like a solemn handshake or something, but that still squicks me out a bit. I will say that extremists of any sort overreacting to every little thing does not surprise me. I mean, they're extremists. Not "completely reasonable, peaceful, wise and logical"ists. The only real distinction I see between these guys and other extemists aside from different shades of incoherent babbling and perhaps different flimsy justifications (on the surface, anyway), is that these guys have actually done shit about it, while alot
  8. Also note it's not a good idea to shoot .308 out of a 7.62 chambered weapon, I hear. .308 chambered weapons will have little to no trouble with 7.62, though.

    308 Mag-well

Looks like I signed in with my facebook account somehow... I agree with csspecs on this one. I still fail to see how an average DIY'er or any one can do it without jeopardizing the safety. The amount of material to be removed is beyond significant, especially at the trunion bold latches. I heard some people did this a while back, but they stopped due to safety concerns. The .308 round can brake the weakened trunion and send the bolt flying back right into your head. I need to see it to believe Me too, but man do I wanna see it work out.
  10. Peach state guns (another sponsor) currently has 2 different lengths of .308s for 450 (Edit: 460 now) and a discount code in their forum section for 10 bucks off.

    Metal Mags?

Apparantly some .308 mag wells will come out down the line, one of which has both a working prototype and uses g3 mags. You can presently get used g3 steel mags (20 round) for a bit under 5 dollars, though if you pitch for the slightly more expensive sites (8 bucks) it will be less of a gamble as to the quality of those mags. If you prefer aluminum (no idea why you would), g3 mags can be had for less than 1 dollar each right now. I'm definately going to keep an eye on that, assuming it goes through without any reliability issues.

Where did you hear that it will definately be for G3 mags? I asked when I emailed them to ask to be notified when it becomes available for purchase. Confirmed, I found out from them in the same way. I don't know a ton about mag wells, but it is interesting that they've gotten a G3 mag to work with them. I've heard you have to take alot of material off to do that without a magwell... and I can't imagine a magwell is going to bypass that, but maybe it is. They mentioned the mags it uses will be under 20 dollars without stating what the mags were in the thread they made about
  13. That'd be cool. Okay, I asked, and it turns out the magwell DOES use g3 mags.
