Actually, I didn't use the old one... though I have now. It was not fun to get out of the old FCG, but easy to install. I ran that drill, and it worked, like you said. I pulled the trigger, worked the bolt, released, and it made that click. Then, trigger pulled again worked as it should. Many thanks for the suggestion. I think it should have fixed the issue. Not sure though, until I take it out to fire.

Here are the pictures of the FCG The trigger doesn't stick, and the bolt is a little sticky when it moves over the hammer. Yesterday, I took it out to the dessert to shoot, and a few times, it ran through almost an entire 10 round magazine without a feed problem, while other times it didn't. And a few times (maybe once or twice), it actually shot two rounds with a single trigger. From what I could feel, it seemed as though every time I pulled the trigger, it seemed that it was almost always doing that (firing the first round, kicking out the spent cartridge, stripping a new

Thanks everyone for all the help. It looks like this is one of those really annoying problems. I got the Tapco Single Hook G2 Trigger Group , which should be the non-ground version.

I haven't yet installed a bullet guide, and I was using the factory mag (the bullet guide thing is my next project). It was the factory gas piston (I don't know if the piston could have a problem, but it might). I left the bolt hold open leaver for the future, and left it out for now. And I used the Tapco retaining plate. I'm 90% sure I put it in correctly, and nothing seems loose, but I could be wrong, at least with the pin holding the hammer in place).

It did work before I converted, and I kept the original spring. I don't think there is an issue with the hammer, as it fires the first round, but I could be completely mistake. I was wondering if maybe putting the bolt in the wrong way, or messing up the carrier would cause the problem. I don't know if it's happened to anyone else, or if I just have an unnatural talent for screwing up mechanical equipment >_>
-
Nope. I did recheck, since I made the mistake when putting it in the first time, but the hammer faces the right direction.

Ok, so I took everyone's advice, and did the restoration for my 7.62, added a stock/grip, moved the trigger group forward, etc. But when I took it to fire, I noticed a problem. I inserted a magazine, pulled back the bolt, fired, no problem. Then I pulled the trigger again, and nothing. I chalked it up to crappy ammo, pulled back the handle, ejected the round, pulled the trigger, and it fired. Again, it spit out the spent cartridge, chambered a new round, but failed to fire. Here's where it gets stranger. I noticed that A ) It happened every other round. That is, it'd fire when I pulled ba

Got me a new Saiga... now just wondering about converting.

The Hogue grip looked like it was the most comfortable. Though, I'd seen this Dragunov style stock with foregrips from Cheaper Than Dirt. I'm wondering if it's be better to go with the Dragnov or a PG/Stock configuration. The Dragunov is tempting, since it'd be more comfortable for shooting prone or on a table, but I don't know about the ergonomics. Anyone have any experience with that type of stock, and would you recommend it over the PG/Stock combo (I'm looking for a solid stock, not a collapsible or folder). -

>_< right... the single hook. Thanks for catching that. Ok, so if I got that one instead, my set up is just fine otherwise? I guess lastly, is there anything I need to know about pistol grips? Like particular brands, or additional parts? -

Ah, so I could get the Double hook G2 trigger group, plugs and Tapco retaining plate and that's all I need for moving the trigger? For stocks, I was wanting to get a folder. Would thisTapco folder be good? -

It does help. I don't know if I have the cobalt bits (need to check), but if not, I'll run down to the local hardware store. -

Yeah... after thinking it over, and all the comments, I just can't justify spending the money for the all in one when I know I'll want to restore it to its original form anyway. It looks like I have the trigger hole, and don't need to cut the grip hole. Might check again just in case. If I don't have a Dremel, do I need to go out and buy one, or can I use something else. A lot of people are talking about using them, but I don't have one right now. -

Thanks. I'm looking at the parts form CSS, and it doesn't seem too expensive. I noticed the Tromix modified trigger group to be $45, and the Tapco to be $27. Is the Tromix one better, or could I get either one? I'll probably order the flat bullet guide from Dinzag. Ah, the BHO isn't a huge issue, but if it's not too much trouble, I'll try putting that one in too. -

I've been talking myself in and out of it, but it looks like deep down I want to. I'll just save up for the parts and do the whole thing. That video does make it look pretty easy. Thanks! When I have all the parts and am ready, I'll make sure to take pics. One question though, how can I tell if I need to cut a new hole for the trigger or not? I've heard that some Saigas already have the hole cut, while for others, I need to cut into the receiver when I move the trigger forward. Can I tell just by looking at my gun now if I need to? -

The BHO only applies to compliance of rules at some gun ranges. No law requires it. Factory issued AK's do not come with a BHO. Saigas do for importation approval. You can easily reassemble the FCG with the BHO during conversion if you wish, or you can leave it out. I got the impression from videos that putting the BHO was tricky, but if it's not, then I could give it a shot. Either way, it's not a huge deal. I think you're right about the satisfaction thing. Thanks for the advice and parts list. I think I'll try those places, and see how much it'd cost for a set up. The import co
