I am fully capable of doing this myself but what are the advantages? The recoil is nonexistent. Does it reduce flash? The only thing I can see right now is I could hold a cleaning rod if I did it.

The front handguard is the same quality as all other wood Veprs. It's just the buttstock that looks like shit. I can post more pics tomorrow.

Everything else looks great including the forearm.

I got mine today. The stock looks like I carved it myself. Now time to decide what furniture I want to put on it.

What hand guard retainer did you use?

Will do. I'm still not sure what changes I want to make. I ordered the 16 inch barrel with standard sights. Are the bolt on lower hand guard retainers worth trying? I can't look at CSS right now because their site is down until tomorrow. If anyone wants to post some pics of what they did with theirs I would appreciate it. BTW Liberty -r-death your 223 is sexy.

Is that a bolt-on lower handguard retainer? If so how sturdy is it?

I was wanting a 223 AK and was looking at the SLR106 series. Last night I got an email from Centerfire about the straight cut Veprs. After looking at what you guys have posted I decided to go with the Vepr. I'm sure I will have a few questions once I receive my Vepr so I look forward to talking with you guys in the next week or so.

My 5.45 is a H09 88 # also. Mine shoots like a dream. I hope your new gun does the same. Sorry to hear you went through all this. Hats off to the OP for keeping his cool.
