  1. I am sorry we lost you because of the tards that do seem to be everywhere anymore. That is why I try to bring new blood in whenever I can. If you think the marlin forums are bad I was a long time member of the shotgun world forums which now seem to be populated by the largest amount of retarded assholes I have ever seen on the interwebs. Its sad really that a good site with lots of good info is so easily ruined by some self pretentious pricks in thier moms basement. As to 45-70 being better well no offense but the bullets from my number 1 seem to move a lil faster then any 450 loading but to be reasonable there is no number 1 in 450 so there is no real valid comparison. Case capacity is bigger on 45-70 by like 2 grains but not a huge difference. Ends up being a ford chevy debate and I know it is. I havent bought factory 450 or 45-70 in years and I agree the 450 runs through the dies nicer. If you dont reload 450 is the better choice but if you do the 45-70 can move most key word most projectiles 100fps faster as by the horandy book and by beartooth bullets. 100 fps isnt any reason to get one over the other though (I have both). Chucking lead out the number 1 the 450 isnt even in the race though but then again neither is my shoulder after a few rounds. Just to get your goat you know remlin killed the 450 marlin last year and 45-70 is still going after 100 and some years right? ;)

  2. I would carry my saiga 12 and not really be to worried but only with the factory 5 rounder or a 8 if I ever get one. But I would rather have my 1895 with my hand loads. 525 grain piledriver hard cast with a ridiculous amount of h322 under it. Proven ELEPHANT LOAD. Same load has taken all crazy game in africa including the big 5 so hell with a bear. Havent found anything that can stop it yet. Even factory stuff from garret have done it.There are people who do better work then wwg for cheaper so to hell with them too. Any of you 45-70s not a part of team 45-70 should come over and join us on the marlin owners forum lots of good info and acess to better people then wwg. And 450 marlin < 45-70

  3. Another thing to think of is that there are more "former" millitary members then active duty now a days. With all the brac crap and cutbacks they let a lot of good people go. I know the volunteer state would not go quitely. Well you know the real part of tn anyway not that place to the west that shares the same name. Around my lil hometown in the woods most everyone served. Kind of like a family commitment. Good ol boys and bubbas that can trace thier millitary liniage back before the civil war. Deer hunters that can pull off shots that you bet money on. Out of my high school class 70% of us joined up. Talking these peoples hard earned stuff will not be easy. You get up into our mountains and and you will get chewed. Google the term redneck and it will help you know. Most people dont even know about that bloody war fought on our own soil, maxim machinguns turned on coal diggers. It can happen. Will it be worthwhile for them? In some places like kalifornia? Probally. Texas and Tn, never

  4. Link didnt work for me. Damnit to hell when is the next boatload? Knowing my luck these asshats are holding out for the election. Anyone else think of any good toys to hold me off. Bought a flintlock and tried to hunt today. It was like a monkey humping a football and the football won. Now i just want to turn money into noise. Who came up with this stupid flintlock rule? I could of thrown the damn thing and hit the deer.

If the boats in then where are they? I wasnt expecting cheap anymore i had 700 to blow and ended up with a flinlock for cheap to hold me over but this thing is lame

  5. I started out the day looking for a new toy a iz 137 to chop up and play with weel after a few calls my lgs said they couldnt find one so i said screw it get me a 5.45. Few more call nope non. Okay another s12 then nope nothing. So i hit the net. Atlantic has nothing. Maa has close to nothing. Nobody has shit but the high dollar pre converted stuff. What gives? Is it this election crap? Hell i cant even find any cheap ammo today wtf? I want my toys damnit!

  6. hi im on a bayonet kick for some reason and wish to add one to my 308. I know i have to change the fsb and thread the muzzle for a break cause my gun has survived this long with just a basic trigger move. So which fsb is the best for this? What about the 100 series that has the threads on the fsb itself? Would i have to change gas block too?

  7. 100 yards. Managed to pull it off several times but then some days gun just wont coperate. I can keep it between 2 and 3 inches usually. I have a nice sheltered shooting area that usually has no wind which helps immensley.

  8. No you arent wrong im just saying if you want the best theres more to it. If you arent trying to get the best accuracy possible then go for it. My saiga 12 shoots about 2 inch groups at 100 with a ic choke and craptastic slugs which is just fine for me cause i have others that do better. 2 inch groups are damn fine for anything you want to do i just have nothing to do all day so i play with my guns. Get the choke and some slugs and go have fun. If you arent happy or you get bored with the accuracy then try some other things. A 2 inch group with slugs will drop pretty much anyrhing. Hell even a 3 to 4 inch group will so just go have fun.

  9. So to sum that long post up once you slug your bore we can start the process to see what each choke should actually be and then trying a proof of concept to determine which choke is actually which. By proof of concept we get into the ratio of how many objects in a shot colum and the ratio of how many hit within a 30 inch circle at a given distance. I will post more on this if anyone would like in the morning cause this is a pain on a phone. Bet u guys never thought this much crap went into finding the right slug huh? I have way to much time on my hands.

  10. I have had good luck out of this s12 with remington sluggers and a improved cylinder choke. Lil known fact is MOST off the shelf slugs will fire through any choke down to full witch is. 035 less then cylinder. Cylinder is considered.729. See where slugging your barrel comes in? Chokes are just subtracting a set number from your bore so if your bore is less to begin with your choke is actually different not by much but it is. Now look at your rifled slug its "fins" are actually there to keep you from going stupid and killing yourself by smashing through a tight choke without over pressure. People are dumb and they had to make them idiot proof. If you measure the main body of a slug it is usually around.694 for this raeason. Heres a small list: light skeet.003, skeet.005, imp skeet.007, imp cylinder.010, light mod.015, mod.020, imp mod.025, light full.030, full. 035, extra full (turkey 1) 040, super full.050. Take those numbers and subtract from.729 which is standard for cylinder bore and you have your choke constriction.

  11. I can only make a recomendation of a limbsaver pad. When looking for a pad push your thumb into and see if it squishes no point in some pads i think they are as hard as the stocks themselves. Ati is like a brick. Never really new the difference till i trued a buddies limbsaver. Get the file to fit one and you can make it fit anything. Another good but odd option is a remington r3 pad. Dicks has them on sale all the time and they are just as good if not better then limbsaver. Just take a hot knife to it and make it fit.

  12. Dont go too fast fps on a rifled choke tube you will actually lose some accuracy. Reason being is its slamming into the rifleing which can distort the slug and occasionaly jack a choke tube up. Its just like too long a throat on a rifle just a crap load worse. Full bore slugs in a rifled barrel dont shave near as bad for same reason. A mass moving at 1500 fps dosent really like to hit obstructions hence the shaving.

  13. Hastings is a 1 in 36 choke which is good for traditioal slugs. Not so good for the fast sabots like sst. Try for some slugs around 1500 fps to give you that little extra range without quite so much drop. Its still going to be trial and error on which slugs will be best. Yes even fosters will be better out of a rifled choke. I would still jam a piece of lead down the barrel and measure it to find bore size. Some of the better slugs have minimum bore requirements. In essence you are making a big rifle so you must treat it as such. Bore size, bullet lead, proper selection of projectile to twist rate just like building a rifle. If you hand load you can do even better cause the best rifles are not the greatest rifles without handloads. Also makes shooting more affordable or allows you to shoot more.
