Brit and vintage motorcycles (I own a Triumph Bonneville and a 72 Honda CL 450 Scrambler). Guns (mostly handguns which I shoot frequently).
  1. I have one of the dph phantom f/h's with the clip bought years ago and it still works fine. When I installed it the first time I noticed that the bottom of the threated portion was not supported since only the top half of the clip was threated. To compensate for that I took a piece of copper tubing about an inch long with a similar diameter of the barrel and cut it lenthwise. I placed that piece on the bottom portion of the clip and as I threated the phantom f/h on it cut its own threats into the copper. A little loctite and voila. The clip is now supported fully at both the top and bottom. Ma
  2. Years ago while I was active USAF I had the FBI and USAF Security Police searched my house Off Base. It was explained to me that the reason the FBI is involved was because they are a Federal entity used when not on government property, and the USAF SP was along to identify military owned equipment. The reason for the search? An ejection seat came up missing from a F-105 aircraft I worked on the night before and they checked on everyone that was involved with that aircraft. When they realized that my only mode of transportation was a Honda CB-350 motorcycle and that it was highly unlikely that
  3. My wife carries either a Kel-Tec P-11 9mm or a Charter Arms .38 undercover snub nose. Both are light in weight, reliable and shoot well, but she has some issues with a her wrist and racking the slide of the Kel-Tec therefore she usually carries the .38 Special in a Coronado Leather concealed carry purse.
  4. My choice is one of the original "wonder 9's"...the CZ75. Great shooting pistol and ultra reliable. It's a little on the heavy side compared to Glocks. I read somewhere that there are more CZ75's in use worldwide by the Military and Law Enforcement than any other model handgun. Last time I checked one can still get them for under $500.
  5. USAF 72 - 76 as an Avionics Instruments System Specialist with the Tactical Air Command. I worked on Phantom F-4's and F 105 Wild Weasels and was honorably discharged with Sgt E-4 rank. Before that I was an Army Brat.
  6. I had the same issue with my Saiga. Since my sight block was pressed on, I was able to move it slightly but enough to be able to center it. I took some penetrant oil like "Kroil" and liberaly sprayed it on the sight block and let it sit overnight. Kroil is really good in penetrating and we use it alot on the aircraft industry. I then wrapped the barrel and sight block with rags and used 2 large pipe wrenches for leverage using opposing pressure. It actually worked after a couple of tries, but I still wound up marring the paint a bit. Some black BBQ spray paint took care of that though.
  7. I've had my CCW for about 10 years now. I'm not in favor of open carry, but that's just my opinion. Since I live in Texas I mostly wear shorts and a T-shirt from Spring to Fall, and I carry my weapon in one of those elastic belly bands. My preferred carries are a Llama Minimax in .45, a stainless steel Charter Bulldog snub nose in .44 or a Kel-Tec P-11 in 9mm. When the weather turns cooler and I wear jeans with a belt I have various holsters to pick from. All except one are leather and many of them are dual carry (either strong side or cross draw). I also use a Uncle Mike shoulder hoster under
  8. In 2004 after 28 years of not riding bikes I got back into it after taking a Honda 2-day motorcycle safety /riding course. They furnished the bike (a 250cc Shadow),and once completed all I had to do is take the paperwork to the DMM and get my new licence upgraded with the motorcycle stamp. Taking the course got me a 10% discount on insurance. Bought a new Hinkley Triumph Bonneville with a 790cc engine (the newer ones are 865cc). At 5'6" with a short inseam the bike is just the right size for me and I have done numerous day trips with my better half on the back. The bike has more than enough po
  9. I was wondering the same thing. It is the thickness with the finish, but I was thinking that almost a third of a mm might be much as far as paint goes. But what do I know? Thanks for the reply.
  10. I'm still in the process of modifying my Saiga and have been researching the various markings and dozens of pictures. On the front trunion right before the serial number of my "08" 7.62 it has an arrow/triangle stamp which I can't seem to find on other pics. Any significance with that? Also, has anyone checked the thickness of their receivers? Mine's a consistent 1.35 mm and not the 1.05 mm I was expecting. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
  11. The first time I moved mine I used a C-clamp and 2 sockets (1 larger and 1 smaller than the drum diameter). As you turn the C-clamp screw, the small diameter socket will push the drum into the larger one. The sight tool I had bought wouldn't budge it until I broke it loose with the clamp. Now it moves fine either way.
  12. Another vote for the CZ 75B. I put some Hogue wrap-around grips on mine and love it. A little on the heavy side fully loaded, but the slide rides inside the frame making it quite slim for a full sized 9mm. It's probably the best handgun in my collection for accuracy.
  13. It depends on the weather. I like my Llama MiniMax in .45, but also switch to a Keltec P-11 in 9mm or a SS Charter Bulldog snub in .44. Usually the Keltec wins out though due to its light weight and 11 round capacity.
  14. I use the same one and also have not had any issues with it.
  15. +1 for the good idea. That's what I had to do. Works like a charm.
