  1. Thanks for the quick replies. The GI model of the PTR-91 does not have the heavy barrel, plus the chamber is built to looser tolerances than the other models to increase reliability with all types of ammo. I'm sure these two factors probably affect accuracy somewhat, but I wouldn't think it would be that much difference. Also, the PTR barrel is 18", in between the 16"-21" model Saigas, which is perfect IMO.
  2. I've been thinking about getting a new rifle, something chambered in .308. I wouldn't mind having a S-308, but I already have two AK based guns, so I'm thinking of maybe getting something a little different like a G3 clone, specifically a PTR-91 GI. Has anyone here shot both of these guns ? How do they compare as far as accuracy, reliability, recoil, etc. ? The AK gas system seems to soak up recoil pretty well for the most part. Are the G3 type rifles the same way ? (I'm not very familiar with the HK system) I've also heard the G3 guns are kind of heavy. Is that true ? I know the PTR

Is the gun brand new ? If so, try running a few boxes of full power ammo through it to break it in. (it should cycle on setting 1) Then switch back to the lighter stuff (on setting 2) and see what happens.
  4. Heck, might as well make an od green side folder while they are at it.
  5. J&G Sales has the Yugo mil-surp for around $210/1260. Comes out to around $250-ish shipped.(for my zip anyway) Nice avatar BTW. Olga is hot, she looks even hotter in that ushanka.
  6. Any particular caliber you wanted to stick with ? Does it have to be .223/5.56 ? I mean, you did mention an FAL in your OP. How about an FAL or G3 clone ? I've been eyeing a PTR-91 GI myself.
  7. I dont notice anything different between my MH iz240 and my RAA iz132 in regards to the sporter configuration. EDIT: Its not mine but an example of a Legion iz240 (post #2), mine is identical. http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=60513 Perhaps I misunderstood exactly what the OP was asking. I was just comparing an RAA sporter which has FCG rivets to my SGL-20 that does not.
  8. Which rivets are you talking about, the sporter FCG rivets? The Legions also have a dust cover with a stamped lower section (for lack of terminology), for a tighter fit to the receiver. Gonzo, where'd you get your Legion iz132? Yes,I was referring to the sporter FCG rivets.
  9. Looks awesome ! What did you use to color it in ?
  10. I think you pretty much got it covered for the most part. Additionally, the Legion guns don't have the rivets for the FCG like the RAA ones do. I think the RAA are considered more of a civilian type gun, while the Legions are more closer to what is issued to the Russian military. Other than that, they are pretty much the same as far as I know.
  11. Wow, that is some gorgeous country !
  12. Hogue makes a storage kit you can buy for their AK/AR grips that has a plug on the bottom. My link
  13. Wow, what a cutie ! She looks Slavic. Is she ?
  14. That Hogue grip is awesome, huh ? I have them on my SGL-20 and S-12.
  15. Steel case for me. It's cheaper(usually, except for the Yugo mil-surp stuff) and I don't reload anyway.(no need to IMO) In echoing what has already been stated, the AK and SKS were MADE to run steel case. If your not supposed to use it in those guns, then tell me exactly which firearm(s) is it ok to use it in ?
  16. I don't usually care for anything bullpup, but I'm kinda diggin' this.
  17. Looks like 7N6 is still the best all-around choice for personal defense (for 5.45 at least). It would have been nice to see some Wolf 7.62 MC HP with the 8M3 Sapsan bullet also used in the test.
  18. Cope's has Brown Bear FMJ for $99.99/500 with $7.95 flat rate shipping.
  19. Are you sure it wasn't just a "bump fire" ? If not,run for the hills, the ATF is coming for you. J/K I'm sure it's an easy fix.
  20. Ah,ok. Yeah, that makes sense. I guess everyone here has it, not just me.
  21. I see this in my profile under where my avatar would go and also when I post in a forum under my "joined" date. What does it mean exactly and how do I remove it. It's not a big deal really, just wondering why I see it in my profile, but not anyone else's. Thanks.
  22. I have a Yugo M57. Fun gun to shoot and quite accurate. 7.62x25 is a stinger of a round for sure. Makes a nice fireball too. Another good thing is mil-surp ammo for 7.62 Tok can be had for very cheap. Alot of this ammo has super hard primers though, and sometimes requires a second primer strike. I've heard this happens to one degree or another with pretty much all variants of Tok pistols. (which is fine if your just plinking) This is not an issue with newer production commercial ammo however,at least not in my experience.
  23. Sweet ! Looks alot like a Sig 229. How does she shoot ?
