  1. The way the California law is at present, the SKS magazines are legal because removing the magazine requires the use of "a tool" which can be a bullet tip. This is actually what led to the origin of the bullet button in the first place, and why what we have now is legal. If the definition changes, the SKS can also become illegal. I appreciate all the help recommending moves, it's something I've been wanting to do for a while, but there are reasons that isn't feasible until the right opportunity arises. As mentioned above, CA has become a proving ground - any help given now ould help pre
  2. 1st let me apologize if this is the wrong forum; mods please move if so. I have not been online in a while, but there is a situation in CA that needs attention - I assure you, if it passes, your states are next! Please spread the word, donate if you can, and if you are a Californian, do everything you can to stop this! Senator Leland Yee (D., San Francisco) - has gutted and amended SBS 249 in what was originally an attempt to outlaw something that was already illegal - the "mag-magnet" a "tool" that allowed you to use your bullet button equipped rifles like one that is not locked with a bul
  3. 97. sweet offer and thanks for the opportunity!
  4. hmmm. maybe. clicked your link and got an error message though. ah well. like i said, more surprise than anything. don't exactly frequent this forum to find out about CA, ya know? all the cool stuff about saiga's happens in the free states.
  5. funny i've been on this site for a little over a year now i believe - and i just tonight noticed the "Regional Sections" part of the forum. all excited about discovering a whole new avenue to explore in the forum, i opened it up - and to my surprise there's no section for the Southwest? i know i'm not the only CA Saiga fan on here - likewise AZ, NV, etc - was the missing region an oversight or intentional? not really upset, just curious. thanks!
  6. i'll share the viewpoint of a Californian on this gun because all of us here in Komifornia are anxiously awaiting it's release. i LOVE my S12. but here in CA it has 2 major drawbacks - it has to have a magazine lock on it, and it cannot have a mag larger than 10 rounds. this means that in a SHTF situation, when the mag is empty i'm dropping it and grabbing the next gun - no time to grab a freaking tool to release the mag and install a new one. with the KMG, because you have to flip a switch manually to switch from one tube to another, technically you are below the 10 round count per "am
  7. being in california, these things weren't as readily available for us to see / hear about here behind the iron curtain until much more recently. i first say mine almost a year ago today when i walked into PRK arms after a couple co-workers had purchased some AR's from them and was going in to pick one up after the 10 day wait and told me i had to go in and check out what they had. 2 of us ended up walking out with receipts for saiga 7.62's that day, and i had images burned into my brain of that amazing saiga-12 they had hanging on the wall - i couldn't get past the cost at the time though.
  8. there's always PRK in Fresno - believe they have them in stock.
  9. i see - and i thought CA was bad. although i do believe that it took a while for bullet buttons and magazine locks to be accepted here in CA too so maybe someday.... in any event, i'm glad that i at least don't live in NY. CA is bad enough.
  10. Because the law does not require it here. There is very specific wording involved, both here and where you are. i'm aware that you don't need it there - but the way the law is written indicates that by using a maglock you no longer have a detachable magazine, and therefore allows you to add a pistol grip - provided that you stick to OEM 5 rd mags that is. we use the same logic in California to have AR's and regular AK's with pistol grips and flash hiders - by adding a bullet button or a maglock we no longer have a detachable magazine rifle.
  11. maybe this is a stupid question / thought, but since i'm from CA...your laws regarding AW's look very similar to ours - and we resolved the PG issue by installing a maglock on the gun - how come no one has done this in NY?
  12. fortunately for me being a lefty, the BHO never gets in my way. i reinstalled it on both my 7.62 and the 12 that i just converted this weekend. agreed on the dental floss trick - was not that difficult going that route. i actually had initially left it out on my 7.62 during that conversion, but then found out later that the hammer had been profiled for it to be in - and because it wasn't there my hammer was walking on the axis pin. had to hear it apart to put it back in - glad i kept all the original parts! my thought is - it serves a purpose, and sometimes i like to use it more than
  13. Shannon definitely is one of the good guys! i just got a box of parts from him today for my s12 conversion. did i mention that he makes some killer hot sauce too?

    Uh Oh...

just be happy you all can get an MD20 for that cheap. i can't even have mine assembled at home - have to leave the state before i can put it together. and i have to buy it from someone who will sell as a rebuild kit - kinda limits my options.
