  1. No you should not sue. You did some things wrong by your own admission. I can say that the SWAT response was way over the top, but typical of the kind of stupid crap that happens with respect to guns in the northeast. Honestly in NY you are lucky you didn't get shot first .. then ask questions. If you had been shot we would have read about the "terrorists in New York with machine guns" that SWAT had to take down. Here in Alabama you would have still got a ticket, but the cops that showed up would have likely been from the local sherrif's department, with their weapons out but not poi
  2. Good luck, just about any rifle will kill them if you can find them. IF you really want to get rid of them though I would reccommend a German Shepard kept outside. ;-)
  3. Well if he was 16 I would go for a bolt gun (probably in 30-06 though). My son can't/won't shoot somemething that powerful now though, particularly in a light rifle where recoil is felt more. My M1 Garand and Remington 742 kick too much for his liking, a savage in a similar caliber would be way too much for him to handle. A .243 winchester might be an option, but is it any better than a 7.62x39? I have a .22 Win Mag Marlin bolt that he shoots regularly and well, but it is illegal (and inhumane?) for deer in Alabama. My son is really good with the operation of firearms (blame video game
  4. SKS would work but it is a bit heavy for him. The scope options are rather limited too (not to mention I don't want to bubba up my SKS). The latter would apply for the M1 Carbine as well but not the others.
  5. My 10 YO son wants to get into deer hunting and I am looking for a mild round to get in a rifle for him. He can shoot my AR (.223) and my SKS but doesn't like anything more powerful. I think that limits my choices, I have a lot of spare AR parts lying around (including a lower) so I was thinking about $500 could get us into a 7.62 AR, but I haven't heard a lot of good things about them. For a little more I could get a saiga and convert it (or not convert for less $$ but deal with the heinous trigger). Which would be the better option? Which is more accurate in that caiber? I live
  6. My brother has a PSL that is not reliable. The bolt carrier does not slide freely towards the rear end of its movement and sometimes stops in the rear position and does not go forward. When it does this you need to forcibly push the carrier forward and after moving a bit it will fly shut (kind of like how you charge the first round an M1 Garand). It will do this periodically and "jam" in the rear position with no relation to the number of rounds. When you charge the first round it often gets stuck in the rear position as well. It is not related to the ammo, it will do it with no magaz
  7. I have a POSP 8x scope I'm not using, I would like to use it for a saiga rifle build I am doing. The problem is it has the wrong style "SVD mount" on the bottom of it and it won't fit on the Saiga/AK scope rail. I would like to swap the botto peice of a scope to the AK style mount. It looks like it is only 4 screws that need to be taken off to remove it. Just to be clear I don;t want the entire scope, just the mounting bracket that goes on the bottom of it.
  8. Edit: typo in the title which I can't change - should say 5.45 or 7.62 Ok I realize my answer might be biased in this forum. But anyway, I'm thinking of picking up a Saiga rifle, I currently own a shotgun. I would like a shortish barreled ak (shortish meaning 16", not SBR). I plan to strip the paint and duracoat it in a desert camo parttern, then convert it myself and add a wire collapsable stock, similar to what you see on those tantals. Probably keep the synthetic foregrip (duracoat that as well) and swap internal parts for 922 compliance. It probably will rarely come out of my
  9. Thanks for the advice I will be leaving it home I guess.
  10. I am ging to the peoples republic of NJ over the christmas holidays to visit some of my family. I was going to bring my converted Saiga-12 to show my brothers. One of them is a gun buff (and soldier). I don't want to do this if it is illegal though. My Saiga has a US made stock, pistol grip, tri-rail foregrip with verticle forgrip attachment and a cobra trigger group. Otherwise it is stock. I will leave the 10 round mag behind and just take the stock Russian mag. Does anyone know if taking it could get me in trouble? Oh yeah, I will be driving through AL, TN, VA, MD and DE but I'm p
  11. I guess I am in the minority here I lube it with breakfree CLP. I also use the regular stock puck. CLP is quite a bit thinner than most regular gun oils and it breaks down carbon so I don't get a gunky build up. I have not had a problem. The gun cycles everything I've put through it except winchester light target loads. With those it is as likely to fail with the first as with the 100th round. I would not lube it with regular gun oil though.
  12. So as long as people are throwing their hard earned away on stuff like pucks that only shoot high brass, when the stock puck shoots everything, ya'll can't tell me that this product has no place in the market. Ya just can't. Then why bother with a poll?
  13. Well if I had enough time I just might end up cowering in my daughters closet on the phone with 9-11 along with my wife, son, daughter and 2+ loaded, ready guns pointing at the closet door. The only thing worth risking my life for in my house are my wife and children. My goods are replacable, my dogs are expendable and losing the cat would be a blessing. If I could secure my loved ones and avoid a confrontation until the cavalry arrives or the invaders leave on their own you better believe I would. If forced into a confrontation though, either due to a lack of time to secure ever
  14. I keep it in a safe in my bedroom closet with the bolt open, safety off and a 10-round mag loaed with 3" 00 buck on a shelf above it. Since I have small childern in the house that is the best option. It is not my first immediate "go-to gun" though, I keep a loaded .357 S&W in a mini-safe uner my bed. If I catch someone coming through the bedroom window without warning I will go for my .357 (perhaps not quickly enough), but I have two big dogs in the house and chances of someone getting in through the bedroom window unoticed are very slim. The dogs sleep in my room and someone m
