  1. My info may be a bit out of date, but there was an FBI study some years back that concluded #4 buck was the best compromise between pellet size, pellet count, downrange perfomance (velocity and power), penetration on flesh, chance of ricochet or overpenetration, pattern spread, % hit potential, and stopping power. IF you had to limit yourself to one shell. As with all compromises, it is not optimal in any area, but pretty good in all. My Department switched to #4 buck in a 2 /34" shell based on this. We haven't had cause to use it on a human yet, but in our informal tests, qualification sh
  2. Since no one has jumped in, I'll answer: magwell: noun; mag'-well - short for magazine well; its the area of the reciever where the magazine goes in; or as used in this context, an add-on that affixes to the bottom of the reciever, giving the shooter a larger, wider area to get the magazine into as they insert it in the receiver. Good tactically when attempting fast reloads. There are 2 kinds, one that doesn't change the mags or the way they lock in, you still "rock and lock" the front tab and back lug to snap it in, or a design that requires slightly different magazines, where the magaz
  3. I saw a UFO one time. Saw a leprachaun a while back. Saw Elvis at the 7-11 last week. I saw me a mermaid once. I believe in these blasted things when UPS has them in my driveway!!
  4. I preordered from AGP. I have kept quiet and been patient, but there are so many anticipated ship dates followed by unexpected delays I'm starting to wonder... That being said; There is no way I am going to pay over $60.00 for a magazine; I'll just go with a pile of five rounders, even if it severely limits my tactical capability, there are so many advantages to the S-12, it still surpasses the my tube fed pumps and autos. The first guy to bring a high capacity mag at a reasonable price to market gets my business; I prefer 8 rounds to 10, polymer to steel, but will use any / either. Then
  5. Tony offers excellent work, quick turnaround time, well-reasoned advice and information, fair prices, respect for the folks dishing out the cash... So why are we amazed? Shouldn't this be the norm? Isn't that why we were once the greatest economic force on earth? And is the fact that we have been forced to accept poor quality; rude, lazy salespeople and high prices as the usual case the reason everything we own says "made elsewhere"? Not to be too overblown and emotional about it, but what we have here is more than a great 'smith; a guy, self-taught, sees a niche, does a fantastic job
  6. Am I being too picky? We are talking about foreends here, right? Handguards would be on top of the forend. (I get all exited about people calling mags clips too) I think one of my failings is I usually check the forum and post during my "stress reduction" time when I have consumed 2-3 margaritas.
  7. I would love to see a nylon pouch, that would attach to web gear with ALICE clips, that would hold 3 - 10 round magazines (Which I am SURE are all completed, and AGP is holding back just because we all enjoy the suspense and drama of it all) that would be green, black, or woodland or digital camo.
  8. Some threads mysteriously disappear when folks talk about mags over 10 rounds, or drum mags. What was "made clear" is certain moderators prefer it not be discussed. Hence the saying, "when you discuss the drum mags, god kills a kitten" Just funnin' with y'all. Tryin' to get a grin from the long time viewers.
  9. I thought the moderators made it clear...
  10. I too prefer the simple approach to firearms. In fact, most of the pics of S-12s posted in the forum have too much crap on them for my tastes. Yet, I am dissapointed that I can't fit one of the Tromix bayonet mounts or the bayonet loop over my polychoke. While it isn't likely to be employed in combat, a shotgun is a (fairly) short-range weapon, and could be used in a hand-to-hand situation. Look at the military shotuns like the trench sweeper. Also, if one is walking point, on sentry, or in crowd control, a bayonet has a huge psychological impact. And yes, I think they look wicked-cool-b
  11. Yeah, maybe they are out and everybody is having so much fun using them that they didn't think to mention it to anyone... Better keep askin' just in case.
  12. Yeah, the dog would be a good start; but if somebody messed with my dog, they'd be eatin' hot lead! In Wisconsin you are only privledged to use lethal force if you "reasonably believe that you are in immenient danger of great bodily harm" The actual statute says "death or great bodily harm", but I have always held the notion that death IS great bodily harm! For cops, there is an addition, all intermediate steps must have been tried, or would prove ineffective. It's a lot to be thinking about as you are trying to get a good sight picture!
  13. I have no problem using lethal force to protect bodily security, regardless of age. I just wonder about using lethal force to protect property. And, I belive that if you intervene using less than lethal force, you probably will have the situation escalate to the point where you are protecting your body. At least then I figure I'm on the moral high ground. (I always like to fight from the high ground!)
  14. OMIGOD!... Am I a closet lefty?! Don't get me wrong, I am not shedding any tears for Mr. Sorebutt; and if I were in charge, any law abiding adult could be packin' whatever armament they saw fit-- BUT- I am thinking about how it has been proven that the neurons in people's frontal lobes aren't completely wired until they are in their early 20s, and consequently they can't often make the logical progression between actions and consequences. And this lowlife punk was probably the product of a single-parent-drug-addled-poverty-stricken-moron household-blah-blah-blah and while that doesn't excus
  15. Can this be installed in addition to the manual BHO, or does that need to be removed? I don't know the feasability of this, but if Apgarms could do a production run with the tab already on the mags (I assume by milling out part of the mold), I would be one happy camper. Now... the magwell. I understand the complications of making a staight-in magwell, mag and release; but I have always felt that if there was just a stamped (or cast, or molded) magwell, that would mount via existing receiver holes that would utilize the existing rock-n-lock system, but just be a guide to better index t
  16. And as we come around the final turn, its the 10-round mags and the capture of Osama Bin Laden neck and neck, but wait, global warming takes the lead, and here comes the next ice age fast on the straightaway, but wait, peace in the Mid-East is making a play while the second coming of Christ is making a fast break on the outside... as we come into the home stretch, who's it gonna be...?! Its gonna be a photo-finish folks...!

    10 rd news

    That ain't news.
  18. But these jokers pack themselves with phone books between the vest and their bodies to dissipate the blunt trauma. Plus, this is a level IV vest, multiple layers of overlapping kevlar with steel, titanium or ceramic plates. I don't know if your vest was that intense.
  19. "have you ever heard of the term "muzzle velocity, or muzzle energy?" Ow. That hurts. All I am saying is that the energy going one way (bullet) equals the energy going the other way (recoil). Sure, the recoil gets dissapated over time and surface area; that's the whole point. If it did not, guns would be deadly in both directions. And the point of this thread is, "I don't think that was full power ammo in the video- a .308 would have knocked him down" and the answer is, No, that's probably full power .308, because a Level V vest can easily stop that round and dissapate the energ
  20. As long as we're marvelling at the universe; something that has always amazed me: If you shoot any bullet exactly horizontal with the surface of the earth and at the same time drop one from the same height as the muzzle, they will hit the ground at the same instant. The accelleration from gravity is the same whether an object is moving or not. Hmmm...
  21. I was just thinkin' that guys on skateboards shooting Saigas could be a cool sport. Kinda like the biathalon, but more serious injuries.
  22. Yup. Except for friction and the difference in the heights of their center of gravity, which will give one person more leverage. I am sure when you throw something that heavy you change your stance and lean and move. If you stood straight up and threw a bowling ball by thrusting your arms staright out, you probably would fall over. Try standing on a skateboard so you remove most of your friction and are standing nearly straight, and throw a 40 pound sack forward at 10 feet per second, and you will travel backward with a force of um- is it 40 foot pounds of energy? The person who catches o
  23. Any object standing has a "footprint" the area between its point of contact with the ground. For a table, it is the square between its legs. For a three legged stool, it would be the triangle between its legs. For a person, it is the roughly oval shape encompassing their feet and the area between. Every object also has a center of gravity, the point that is the average center of all its mass. If the center of gravity is between the area of the footprint, it is in balance, the closer the center of gravity gets to the edge of the footprint, the less stable it gets; and if the center of gr
  24. I'm sure you're right about some of the energy being disappated, but I look at it this way; if I affixed a 5/16" pointed rod to my buttstock, held it against my shoulder and fired my .308, I am sure it would drive it into my shoulder at about 2,500 feet per second. A butt pad is about 8 1/2 square inches, which is probably 50 times the surface area of the front of the bullet, so the force at any given point is 1/50th of the force the bullet hits with. Sorry to keep beating the dead horse, but I love this stuff. Dispite my belief in physics, I don't want anybody testing this out on me eithe
