  1. Yeah I definitely want to acquire one of those holsters as well. Not that I would ever use it, but it's just too cool.
  2. I just picked up an East German Makarov and I am currently in love with it.
  3. I have also heard of people who feed fine from milsurp magazines without a bullet guide. My 5.45 would not feed reliably without one.
  4. I've never used Duracoat but I have always been happy with the price/performance of Alumahyde 2. I believe Duracoat is probably a little stronger though, but only because it seems to be what everyone prefers, so there must be something to it.
  5. The problem is that they were imported and everyone who wanted one bought one. Now they are in their (my) clutches and you will have to pry them loose. Just how it works with parts like this for foreign rifles.
  6. I have had good experiences with Brownell's Alumahyde 2. I think Brownell's is the only place to get it though.
  7. I have all three of the AK books. They are great reading.
  8. I have installed trigger guard rivets with a big hammer and a homemade punch. First I dimpled the top of my bench vise to conform to the head of the rivet on the bottom, then used my custom homemade punch to hammer the tops down onto it. From the outside it looks factory, inside the rivets aren't as nice but they work fine. I have access to a lathe but not to a press :/

    Where do I go

At the top navigation bar there is a link that says "store," click on it and it will come up with a few options for you.
  10. Citristrip will take the factory finish off of a Saiga. It may take a few times and a bit of elbow grease though.
  11. Is it too much to hope for a slightly different SVD that would be easy to convert back?
  12. That still doesn't answer why Romanians are fine but Russians are not. Every single Romanian stamped receiver in the US, and all of those still coming in, have this stamp. The ATF does not mind it. Also a center punch will be necessary with or without this Y. If you wanted to do it, it would actually be easier to drill and layout the hole in a non-stamped receiver. EDIT: Upon further research, there isn't any issue with the stamp and never was. Some of the older Saiga's actually had the third hole there, and then the hole was sealed with a plug. These were the rifles that were affe
  13. Maybe that's a gas system down there? I have no idea...
  14. But that's the issue. They aren't excited about it on every single Romanian AK that enters the country. They are only worried about the Russian ones. Not to mention that would make an awful guide for drilling the hole. The stamp is far to large to be a drill guide, the drill would walk all over inside that stamp. An adventurous person could be more accurate with a simple ruler than trying to use that stamp. You're also overlooking the fact that you would also need the rate reducer, an extra pin, the auto-sear, a new bolt carrier, and you'd also have to cut a section out of one of the rails ins
  15. This is the Y stamp on my WASR. As far as I know, every single Romanian rifle ever made has the Y stamp, but the ATF has no problems with these...
  16. This. Companies are out there making cheaper lowers without these issues. For that kind of money it had better be flawless.
  17. Sight block is Chinese I think isn't it? I know the Draco has a fully hooded sight block, but I thought the Chinese were the only ones who did that to their rifles? Also, the gas tube is Chinese (most likely) because of the vents.
  18. He better seat that magazine if he wants to actually use that weapon.
  19. Yeah, but that's exactly what I mean. There are plenty of other stamped AK type rifles with the extra Y stamp all over the country that the ATF hasn't said a word about. So why were these Saiga's targeted? Not that I'm saying the ATF hasn't ever done shit that makes no sense, but I just wonder why this particular rifle, and not any of the numerous other manufacturers who left the Y stamp without drilling the hole and the ATF had no issues with.
  20. Spaniel did know what he was talking about and that situation was rectified before your post.
  21. Why were they listed on the ATF site to be turned in? Y stamps are perfectly legal on many rifles that have them.
  22. Awesome discussion guys. I just want to chime in and say I think it's just a sound business decision to focus on a product that will bring far more return than another.
  23. I'm a big fan of the type 3. The blade design is really interesting, plus you can get them in PLUM!
  24. There are many types of bayonets for the AKM, the most common you will run into are called the type 1, type 2, and type 3. Type 2 and 3 will work. they look like this: The type 1 will not work because of the huge bulbous shape to the handle. It is the most common AK bayonet you will find. Also the ones for older AK's look completely different and do not lock up in the same manner as these ones for the stamped rifles.
