I know this is a bit of thread necromancy but oh well. If you're still looking for a FSB, Dinzag appears to be making them. http://dinzagarms.com/saiga_762x39/akfsb.html . I haven't tried them for the Vepr specifically but I have one on my Saiga 12 that works just fine.

I wouldn't count on being able to get a gas tube that works. Even if you manage to get a tube with the retainer on it, the upper handguard will block the rear sight. The problem isn't the tube, but the rear sight block. The answer is the Dinzag gas tube and RSB. Dinzag is a good guy and his products are top notch. The only question is if you want to spend the money on it. You can send in your old hardware to him for a discount. Make sure your handguard and stock fit well. I had to do some pretty extensive dremel work on my lower handguard and my stock had enough wobble in it that

Not having done it myself, I can neither confirm nor deny. Cobra, could you please comment on what sort of difficulty you encuntered in fitting one? Did it require more than just dremel work?

That's what I was afraid of, that the dust cover on a S12 is just too different. I haven't tried to modify a rifle dust cover for mine but I knew some here had. However, while I agree that some of our vendors, Cobra included, do excellent work in this department, I think the LINCH system has two advantages. First, it's easily reversible and doesn't require modifications to the hard to find bolt carrier. Second, it's non-reciprocating so no risk of bruised knuckles or noses. Hopefully it will be adapted to the Saiga-12 eventually.

Dinzag is the place to go. I went this route too and it's not cheap but the results are amazing. You'll need a modified gas tube/rear sight base and upper and lower retainers at the least. If you intend to use irons, you'll also need a new front sight block (I believe it's the tall one). You can send in your stock gas tube to help offset the costs or keep it and pay a little extra if you want to be able to return your S12 to its original configuration. I have both SGM and AGP mags. They've all worked flawlessly for me so reliablity isn't a concern. I like the AGP mags slightly more though because they don't have the bulky floorplate that the SGM mags do.

Also, try a different gas puc if you have one. I was getting FTE's with the twister puc before I realized that it was a piece of crap. It was a little too small for the gas block so gas was leaking past it, gas that sould have been used to cycle the action. No matter how tight I screwed down the auto plug it would still happen. When I went back to the stock russian puc I had no problems. In fact, my auto plug is now screwed almost all the way out. What a difference a puc makes.

Actually, the 10-round limit is not as bad as the mag locks. Pain in my balls. Luckily both of those are currently being challenged in the courts. In the mean time, have fun in 10-round increments. We need more people here to stick around and be annoyed by it rather than moving away. Otherwise the legislature gets what it wants. And fuck those guys.

Actually it's totally legal to have disassembled "high capacity" magazines in CA. They're usually called rebuild kits and they're pretty common. You can even buy them at many gun stores. When the mags are disassembled they're just a bunch of parts and don't qualify as an ammunition feeding device. Just don't assemble them in state or you have comitted a felony. Flash hiders are ok too as long as you have a mag lock. You can have all the "evil" features you want as long as you have a mag lock and you meet the length requirements. Definitely check out the AW flow charts on calguns

The top rail is ok. A rail anywhere else is apparently not "sporting."

There are different versions for guns with and without mag-wells. rusmilitary has them from time to time.

About 6 months ago, I gave up on getting wood furniture from rusmilitary and bought a set from Ironwood. It was nice but required fitting and was unfinished. Matt at Ironwood can be slow to respond to inquiries. At some point you need to just take the plunge and mail him your order form with a check. A few weeks later your wood will arrive. He's got decent customer service. When my stock broke because it had too much play, he worked with me to figure out the right size and replaced it for free. It looks like he'll be offering finished sets soon too.

I bought a kreb's custom set early on and fell in live with the peep sight. I really missed it when I upgraded to the Dinzag rear sight block with an AK sight leaf. I recently installed the kreb's custom AK aperture sight with an XS big dot front post. Oh my god, I'm in love. Quick acquisition, high contrast (tritium), and it's windage and elevation adjustable.

Sorry for the delay. I finally took some (crappy) pictures though. I've made 2 so far. The second one is much nicer but just a touch too long. They're both way better than a screwdriver or any other tool I've tried. 1/4" is definitely the magic number: bigger and it's hard to insert, smaller and it gets jammed. Behold!
