  1. Are your sure the address is right? Shouldn't it be 'customerservice@tapco.com'? The address you gave above bails ugly (bounce with permanent error). Dallas
  2. Mississippi Auto Arms is out of the 16" barrels but looks like they have the 20's
  3. Hey guys, Thanx for the replies. Apologize if I was a little sensitive there. Just that I put a lot of effort into not being a whiner. The real reason for the thread was to make sure I didn't have a lemon. I know the Saiga is fine tool because I did much research before purchasing. But any machine that is produced in large quantities can exhibit instances that are poorly built and outside the statistical norm. So I wanted the advice of the experts here to determine if that was the case with my evaluation unit. I'm sure that isn't the case now so cool. Good point about the better
  4. Wow. Pretty harsh response to a simple question. Oh well ... Just for the record though I'd like to clarify a couple of points: 1) I'm not whining, just asking if the things I noticed about the weapon are normal. So I'll pass on the cheese. But don't be shy. Help yourself to some. 2) I understand the weapon is manufactured in RUSSIA. All the more REASON to PACKAGE IT BETTER. You'll notice I said I didn't mind about the charging handle. It'll get duracoated post conversion anyway. 3) Yeah I know what a castoff is but the "warp" I mentioned isn't an offset, it's a bow. And
  5. I fired the first handful of rounds through my Saiga 223 this weekend. I get a very pronounced dent at the top of the neck. Every round shows identical dent. Unfortunately, I seem to have thrown the brass away without photographing it. Was firing Wolf 55 grain hollow points. Has anyone here heard of or experienced anything similar. Thunderheart
  6. Hi folks, I got my new 223 Friday before Memorial Day. I haven't fired it yet but I have to say ... I'm a little disappointed. First of all when my local dealer (who handled my transfer) brought it out I noticed that during shipment, the charging handle had rubbed a big hole in the box. So it had been riding against other surfaces during shipment. Not really a big deal. Handle was a little "shiny" but doesn't bother me. However, the more I look the more I find that seems iffy. For instance, the hood on the front site blade looks bent to me when I sight the rifle. From other angles
  7. Yeah, just got my 223 with 16" barrel from Mississippi Auto Arms for $315, $11 for gunpal processing, $24 for insured shipping. My FFL charged $50 for the transfer. All in all a good price as I got a 30 round Surefire for $10 as part of the deal. The 7.62x39 was the same price. Haven't fired it yet but will this weekend weather permitting. Thunderheart
  8. Awesome. I ordered from Mississippi Auto Arms today. Looking forward to firing it. I actually found a post somewhere and the guy claimed that RAAC assured him the chamber is "MilSpec" and fires 5.56 A-OK. I plan to fire it a bit in the Sporting Configuration while I contemplate a conversion. I think I would keep said conversion to a minimum. Leave the front end of the rifle pretty much alone. Maybe with some vents up there? Don't want to put too much into it. Thanks for the post Floyd. Any pictures of your 223? Dallas
  9. Thanks for the reply and the welcome as well! I own some rifles in what I would call "traditional" sporting calibers like 22LR, 30-30, 30-06 and some shotguns. Primarily family heirlooms that I fire occasionally for fun, but have never owned a .223/5.56. The bulk ammo I'm finding is often labeled as both 223 AND 5.56. Just wanna be sure what is cool (safe) to shoot in my new Saiga AND that I can find some! Dallas
  10. I'm sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find an answer with a forum search. Is a Saiga 223 chambered for .223 Remington or 5.56x45 NATO and does it matter? This may seem like a silly question but I hope the folks here will humor me. I've always assumed they were literally the same, but as I started looking into it prior to purchasing, I find that they are different. Looks to me like firing 5.56 in a .223 could (is) dangerous. How about firing .223 in a 5.56 rifle? Would really appreciate someone with experience and knowledge taking a minute to straighten me out on this s
