  1. What about a PSO-1 (PSL) scope? I read somewhere that they weigh about a pound. I know the eye relief is not right for an AK, but I'm asking about this for an unconverted wood-stocked Saiga 308 that I don't own yet. (I own a converted 308, but I'd like to have one non-scary, non-EBR for certain purposes too). Would the extra stock length of the unconverted Saiga make the eye relief about right? And, can the PSO-1 even use the AK rail?
  2. So the POSP is the most efficient side mount scope option, in regard to weight.
  3. The 4x POSP comes in at about 1.5 lbs. Is there a quality scope and side rail mount combination for the 308 that weighs less than that?
  4. Does anyone have any further input on this subject?
  5. One more question: Can those of you who had your barrel cut down please tell me (if you are willing) how much you paid for the procedure? I'd like to know what to expect, and what falls in the range of reasonable.
  6. Thanks, that's reassuring. Did you add a muzzle brake or flash hider?
  7. How much increase in muzzle rise and blast did you notice after cutting it down? I'm still debating flash hider vs. muzzle brake. Also, is the Vortex the one that "pings" with every shot?
  8. Thanks for the input. I think I might go with 19 inches, whereas before I was leaning toward 20.
  9. I plan to have my Saiga 308's barrel cut down, turned down at the muzzle, and threaded soon. The reason for cutting it down is that I feel it is very front-heavy already, and I plan to add a muzzle brake. I'm not sure exactly how much to cut. At least 2 inches, but anything shorter than 18 total barrel length would be too short for me. The blast and loudness is too much for my tastes on the 16 inch models. I'm wondering if there might be any gas issues shortening the barrel. My rifle already does not eject very far at all, I'm concerned that cutting the barrel will possibly introduce reli
  10. It's tempting, but I try to prioritize by likely scenarios. The probability of using this rifle for anything away from the range is already pretty low (other than maybe for hunting), and the probability of having to make a 200 yard shot in a SHTF scenario, much less a 300 yard shot, is vanishingly small. I try to train for scenarios that I might possibly encounter. It seems to me that a red dot or the irons will be sufficient for all of those. But I suppose it's possible that I might get a magnified scope to change out with the red dot later.
  11. My Saiga 308 needs an optic. The contenders: Trijicon Tripower Aimpoint Comp C3 Whichever I pick, will reside on this new cowitnessing-capable rail: The rifle is meant for mostly 0-300 yard work, with the possibility of more distant shots using either irons or reticle hold-over. I'm leaning toward the Tripower, even though I'm more accustomed to Aimpoints and their simple reticle. The Tripower has a chevron reticle. I'm thinking that for a 308, I should have an optic that gives a little more flexibility and capability. But both optics clearly have their advantages, a
  12. I see on Dinzag's site that he is selling a gas tube "machined specifically for the standard Saiga .308 Rifle". Will a standard AK gas tube not work? I have one already, and would rather not spend the extra money if not necessary.
  13. Is the Dinzag retainer the only option for the .308 Saiga? I've read through some old threads in which numerous problems were reported with it.
  14. Where did you get the stock? Is it American or foreign made? It looks great. Also, I like the PSL stocks in that they angle downward more than a standard AK stock. Much more comfortable.
  15. Does the bottom stock still have the recoil-dampening spring on the buttplate? And, what are people using for a handguard retainer on the 308? The barrel is too big to accept the ones for the 7.62x39, isn't it?
