      Not really...

I mean a time on this forum...

Ever read back to the beginning of the forum?

      Nothing's really changed.

Just the screen names & mag capacities have.

Of course not. It would be foolish to believe in any sort of "good old days" with anything

  2. As I understand it there was kind of a good reason for this policy. Aside from the For Sale ad implications, it makes sure hypocritical people stay looking hypocritical, or something like that I suppose.
  3. 1:9 in a 20" barrel is fine for 62gr, that's what the M16A2/A4 is and shoots. For a shorter barrel 1:7 is better. Noveske is nice but the barrels are polygonally rifled stainless, so that's a no-go if you want to go totally milspec as in the OP. That's another thing I forgot to mention, the proper milspec barrel for an AR is 4150 chrome-moly-vanadium steel, not 4140 chrome-moly which is what a lot of the middle- to lower-end manufacturers use. Also a lot of companies seem to think that chrome lining is optional and charge you an extra $45 for it. I know Bushmaster's barrels are 4150
  4. +1 to BCM and to assembling your own lower. You definitely want to get the BCM M16 carrier group. The bolt is HP/MP tested, the gas key screws are properly staked, and the bolt is shot-peened (something almost none of the other manufacturers besides Colt do.) Make sure that the buffer tube and buttstock are milspec, NOT commercial spec. Commercial spec buffer tubes are softer extruded aluminum and have undersized threads. Most commercially available buffer tubes (milspec and commercial) have 6 stop positions for the buttstock, but the correct USGI tube only has 4 stops; the ones wit
  5. K, seriously, how are you supposed to attach the IIFS buttpack to the D-rings on the back of the ELBV?

Nah, I'll mess around with it later, not concerned with it right now. I was just ranting.

My cats suck.... we get a few mice every now and then in late fall.. they run around with them in their mouths but won't bite down....

I've never seen a mouse outside of mine's mouth.

It's rare, but when it happens I turn my head & let him finish them off. He really enjoys it. Then he plays with it for a while & when he turns his back, I steal it. He gets so sad when he can't find it.

Forget the .22 and got S12 w/ an MD Drum, lol. We have one that lets us set traps and then when the trap goes off, he runs into the basement and brings us the mouse AND trap. To my SO "He's not lazy, he's practiceing good survival strategy."

  8. What amazes me is that no one seems to take into consideration how much weight that puts on the mag catch. Much as I love the AR, one of its weak points is the strength of the straight-in magwell design as opposed to the rock-n-lock on an AK. Two things stick out in my mind: A. The near-total cultural migration over to ambi-everything has resulted in some very useful but (from my POV) structurally weakened design elements, one of the most notable being the Norgon ambidextrous mag catch. From what I understand all new M16s going to the USMC are equipped with it now. I really like that i
  9. The 100rnder looks obnoxiously long; I'd rather have a C-mag. Seems like they are definitely going to beat Magpul to market. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out; whether Magpul will jump ship on the quad-stack PMAG (I doubt it) and how the two will stack up (no pun intended ) against each other. Either way, I'm definitely down for a 60rnder when they arrive. One thing in the article that bothers me is the claim that they can "be stored indefinitely while fully-loaded, since they won’t take a spring set." That doesn't take into consideration lip-creep, which is the #1 conce
  10. Az: That is true but if he's using a gas piston conversion that doesn't really apply...
  11. Here's my take on the problem, others may or may not agree. There are a lot of things to consider here. You may (probably do) already know most of this, but it bears repeating in general: The pulse of gas that hits the piston lasts for a certain period of time which we call dwell time. Dwell time starts when the bullet passes the gas port and ends when it leaves the muzzle. As the distance between the gas port and the muzzle decreases, dwell time gets shorter and reliability goes down. One possible fix is to enlarge the gas port, but a more-powerful-but-still-too-short gas pulse ca
  12. Note that aside from the frame being plastic, the slide is "Zamak 3" zinc alloy. Not that huge of a deal since it's an unlocked blowback design. Cheap, ugly, huge, heavy, not convenient to disassemble but most of the time they work just fine. I'd much, much rather have a Hi-Point than any Jennings-family firearm. @Pauly, the metal looks pretty porous on that broken slide; I'd venture a guess that it was a bad casting. No company is exempt from manufacturing and selling lemons once in a while. At least the slide stayed on the gun and didn't hit the shooter in the face!

Oh, I'm fine. I'm just trying to decide whether or not it's worth the effort to try to keep someone who was a friend long, long ago still a friend. Does that make sense?

  16. Pretty slick. Did it come with the cleaning kit/multitool in the buttstock?
  17. I found something relevant. Sorry Boba, but it sounds like you're SOL.
  18. The idea is that it should be legally precedented by the Bushmaster/Gwinn Armpistol. As others have stated it's still wise to get a model-specific letter of approval from the F-troop, but I imagine it would take just as long to get a letter of approval from them as it would take to just get an SBR stamp.
