There's an old saying I saw on a bumper sticker today; "The more people I meet...the more I like my dogs". Sometimes, it's true.

Just being reminded a lot lately that a large part of my reason behind owning guns is that the majority of other gun owners and their theocratic convictions scare the hell out of me.

  3. LOVE the 37. I'm far from the only person who considers it the greatest pump shotgun ever produced. Show and tell time: Here's my 20" 7+1 DSPS; it replaced my 870 a few years ago in the primary home-defense role. Down the road, I'd also like to get an AOW Stakeout model. EDIT: As some have and will point out, you can pump-fire the gun by holding back the trigger and continually pumping; every time the bolt closes, it will automatically fire. This is common with all or nearly all pump shotguns up to and including the M37, but not after. Some people refer to it as slam-firing, but that
  4. Definitely not an AR mag. It has no slot for the mag catch on the side, and a rock-n-lock shelf on the back similar to an M14 mag. I still say Mini-14 because the curvature of the mag isn't drastic enough for the 7.62x39mm cartridge.
  5. Many AR manufacturers state that firing steel-cased (cartridge casing, not bullet jacket) ammo (and Wolf in particular) through your rifle voids your warranty, but off the top of my head I don't think I've ever heard any actual first-hand reports of steel cased ammo doing any damage to an AR barrel or bolt. My BCM certainly hasn't had any complaints about it. It would be worth checking though if Noveske has anything to say about it in their warranty information. Here is CMMG's statement on the topic; it seems to me that they are of the opinion that Wolf is all defective crap, which is a
  6. The standard wood-stock, non-tactical models in 28 and 20 gauge are actually pretty sweet. I'd rather have one of those than a Taurus Circuit Judge...
  7. Just off the top of my head, it looks like a Mini-14 mag.
  8. Why am I playing along with this? (1) Ithaca M37 shotgun, 14" Kyle Reese Special (2) Ithaca M37 shotgun ROF L42A1 Lee Enfield rifle Ruger 77/22 rimfire rifle, with a suppressor if the rules allow it H&K P7M8 pistol
  9. Remember those double oiler bottles that come with Mosin-Nagants, the ones that are vaguely stopwatch shaped? On side is marked for oil (either нефт or масло) and the other is marked for lye solution (щелок) the (basic/alkaline) lye being for neutralizing the (acidic) primer salts. Ammonia or Windex also seem to do the same job pretty well. I will now sit back and wait for someone with a better grasp of either chemistry or русский язык to beat me about the head and shoulders.
  10. Although if you don't have a chrome lined bore (or other parts exposed directly to the propellant gas,) and you don't clean the gun for a long period after shooting it...... ......I wish I could find the picture I had of the piston of an AR-15 after shooting lots of surplus 7.62x25mm Tokarev and being left to rot. If I find it, I'll edit this post. EDIT: Hey look at that, I found it. From what I understand, this is from a 7.62mm Tokarev conversion made by CNCgunparts. I don't know who the original manufacturer of the bolt carrier assembly is. I would ascertain that the inside of th
  11. Kay: "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it." It's a frickin' airplane, guys. And before you go hollering "BUT CONTRAILS DON'T LOOK LIKE THAT", yes, actually sometimes they do, and I can attest to seeing such phenomena in person on several occasions. Also, remember Hanlon's Razor: Never attribute to malice (a secret missile launch) that which can be adequately explained by stupidity (people who know very little about aviation or meteorology, and who have never seen a ballistic missile or orbital rocket launched in person, looking up at an airplane
  12. The other thought off the top of my head, if they do have fluted chambers and still don't cycle reliably, they might not have the right locking wedge installed. Also it's somewhat ammo dependent...
  13. I'm not familiar with what PTR is doing specifically, but if they are indeed barreling the guns without fluted chambers, then that's the problem. Delayed blowback won't work without the fluted chamber. I just have a hard time believing that a company that works on almost nothing other than delayed blowback rifles would screw something like that up.
  14. Here is my take on the subject of aesthetics: In my own opinion, from a purely aesthetic standpoint, one of the ugliest firearms ever conceived much less shown the light of day is the SIG SG-510, aka the StG.57 or AMT: The word "graceful" does not come to mind when describing this weapon, and yet I take a liking to the appearance for one reason: there is not a single feature or component of the entire rifle that does not serve a purpose. In principle I think it is not necessarily appropriate to say "function before form" because that implies that form was given any thought of its
  15. Nate, one of my best friends from high school: "I'll never use an FS2000." Me: "Why? It's a perfectly good, well designed rifle." Nate: "Yeah but they look stupid. If it looks stupid, I'm not using it."
  16. Holy geez, that had to be awkward... Oh, the USAF and their slick-side, pencil-barrel carbines. Just because they have to be different. Thanks for the compliments and +1s... sometimes I feel like I overdo it. Someone asks a simple technical question and I answer with a 5 page essay. I'm amazed that not once have I gotten a "tl;dr" response thus far.
  17. As far as I know, all recruits in all branches of the military are required to qualify with the M16A2 rifle. The M16A4 and M4 used in combat have the same sights, more or less, with a couple small differences. Front sight is a square post, elevation adjustable in 1.5moa (1.5" at 100 yards) increments with a special tubular wrench. Rear sight is a double L-shaped aperture with a very large ghost ring for 0-200m range (marked "0-2") and a small peep aperture for 300m range, windage adjustable in 0.5moa increments via thumb-wheel. The rear also has a bullet drop compensator (BDC) elevation
  18. Owning a 10/22 and having spent extensive (excessive) time with the Marlin Glenfield, my vote is for the 10/22 if only because I do not like rimfire rifles with tubular magazines. Fun plinker but tedious to reload.
  19. Just remember, never walk downhill toward a helicopter. It's bad for your health.
  20. Sorry for my brief response before, I've been having health problems and haven't been particularly clear-headed lately. What model is it? 336? I'm assuming it is. I would venture an educated guess that the lever plunger (part 35 in the linked pic below, built into the lever just above where your trigger finger goes) is rusted stuck and can't collapse into the lever/away from the frame. Again that's a guess, but that would definitely lock the lever up tight with no play. You shouldn't need to disassemble the receiver at all to get the wood off. There's a single screw (18) located o
  21. This (link) may or may not be your problem, but it's the first thing that popped into my mind.
  22. The 1914 and 1917 Enfields are much closer in design to the Mauser/Springfield than to the Lee-action rifles from what I understand; completely different design, so it shouldn't have the trigger-wiggle. Also all of the Lee-action rifles are cock-on-close, with the exception of aftermarket or custom modified bolt assemblies for cock-on-unlock.
  23. I SERIOUSLY doubt that it's DGI. I see zero problems with building such a thing, but I doubt that's what they did, as much for marketing reasons as for technical ones. <nitpick>I would LOVE a shotgun with the exact same manual layout as my AR, and this fails to fulfill. It doesn't have the AR's charging handle, and that bothers me.</nitpick>
