  1. I said this months ago, but when I first fired my 030 I found it to have much more perceived recoil than my worked over iz-109. I prefer the adjustable gas system. It only took 5 3" magnum rounds in the 030 before I didn't have a desire to shoot them anymore.
  2. That looks like a "C" model. I though the K version had a different handguard.
  3. Can't wait to see how that puppy comes out! I'm on the Tromix 2012 build list and I'm sending them my 030. Should be bad.
  4. Everyone just needs to relax. When I bought my 030 it was right at $1200. A couple months later, suprise suprise $999. This economy wont support $1000+ esoteric Russian shotguns after the initial wave of buyers.
  5. It really amazes me the lack of experience on these 030s given how long they've been available now. I had one of the first ones back in Feb/March and put many rounds thru it without a single hitch. BUT, that's at standard import barrel length. What I do know is that although I never experienced a failure with the cheap wally birdshot it seemed to run "on the edge" with these rounds. So it doesn't surprise me the gun isn't 100% reliable when you chop the barrel down and reduce gas pressure. BTW, beautiful shotgun OP. Mario does fantasic work. And he's a good guy too.
  6. I filed my Molot 8 round mag to fit the Izzy magwell on my 109 a while back. Just inser the mag with the BCG out of the receiver and you will see what area you need to file. It's no big deal, just go slow and check the fit often.
  7. I'll revise my statement: the VEPR and 030 mags are interchangeable in the Saiga 12 030. The mags are not identical however.
  8. Selling all this stuff as I'm moving and no longer have any non-magwell S12s. 1st - Tromix vertical charging handle and ACE folding mechanism. These 2 come as a package. The ACE is a little rugged, but works as intended. It does have a tad of up and down plan when locked but from what I've read this is "normal" for ACE. $40 shipped USPS. I don't know where the swivel is anymore. 2nd- MD20 drum in perfect condition. Only change is internal spring set to 2.5 rotations from stock 3, promotes easier loadind. Can easily be set back to 3 turns. $85 shipped USPS. Thanks
  9. The market will bear more in my opinion. I sold my 3 for 150 each, and looking back I'm sure I could have got 175 each
  10. I sold mine for $150 a piece recently, both of my S12s have magwells now As far as them not being worth that, it's up to the individual. To me, they're worth the asking price. For the most part, American made mags make me cringe. I like authenticity.
  11. IZ-433 Factory magwell and LRBHO. Both work flawlessly. Also, I installed a factory magwell on my IZ-109. It's not hard to install, mags were hard to get a hold of, now they can be had for $100 through Legion.
  12. Got my 8 round magwell mag from Legion. It comes sealed in a thick Plastic bag and it even comes with it's own Inspection paper from Izhmash! Pretty cool in my book. At first I thought the mag was going to need to be fitted as it was very tight in the magwell and wasn't drop free but after a couple insertions it wore in a bit and fits nice and tight and drops free.
  13. The whole point I'm trying to make is once you exceed a certain port area, you're going to lose the ability to properly regulate the gas ranging from 3" magnum to light birdshot. Even if there are no detrimental effects to the gun itself shooting magnum loads with excessive gas, the other consideration is the monumental recoil. This slows follow up shots and makes the gun less fun to shoot IMO. A perfect example of this is my S12 version 030. It has FIVE gas well sized gas ports. The recoil on a 3" magnum load is tremendous, and I suspect, a compromise the Russians had to make so us Yanks coul
  14. I'll just wait till next year. These things will be cheap again. Just gotta wait. I have 22 74 mags at the moment so I'm okay
  15. Gas is the most critical component of reliability in a gas operated weapon system. That is an undisputable fact and not merely opinion. Reprofile and polish all you want (don't get me wrong, I do too), if it isn't getting enough gas to propel the carrier rearward, it will not run. Just saying.... you might reconsider your logic in the bold type. I don't post pics of any of my trigger work or reprofiling because of people's desire to copy things around here. It doesn't mean that I neglect or do not condone that part of the process. I mainly do it to reduce the recoil impulse of the weapon and m
  16. Just my opinion, but there's absolutely no need for 4 gas ports at .093". I have 3 @ .093" on a 18.5" barrel (16" barrel with permanently attached 2.5" flash hider) and it's borderline overgassed with 3" magnum loads. It will shoot any garbage birdshot you throw at it. The reprofiling and polishing of the BCG, bolt, and extractor is the absolute most critical aspect to reliability IMO The way I see it you can always go bigger or more ports later, but you can't take them back if it's too much.
  17. I personally wouldn't worry about it. I highly doubt you will have any corrosion issues with a non-chrome lined brake. I've shot over 2000 rounds through my 5.45 with no corrosion issues in the Arsenal muzzle brake with no corrosion (I do routinely see corrosion on the piston head).
  18. To install the rear pin, I cut down and re-used the factory 109 mag latch pin to hold the magwell in place
  19. The magwell from Oleg comes with everything needed to install it. I know, I put one on my IZ109 last year. Getting the mag latch pin in was a complete bitch.
