  1. View these videos. If you know anything at all about precision rifles you'll quickly see why the Kalash design is not precision. It may not hollow a dime at 1000 yards but it works up close and dirty. Embrace it's strengths and realize its weaknesses then go practice.

  2. Differences in what? Accuracy? Lots of variables. My 16" 5.45 shoots better than I can. My blasted eyes are aging fast but I still manage 1.5" groups @ 100 yds w/surplus ammo. The longer 5.45 projectile has a better ballistic coeffeient than the shorter 5.56 projectile.

Longer barrels on guns can cause barrel whip which decreases accuracy. Shorter barrels tend to be more rigid, thus more accurate. Everything has its cost though. Longer barrels=higher vilocity & longer range b/c of more complete powder burn.

Everything is a trade off and at the end of the day the AK design will far out-perform what most shooters need to accomplish.

All the above statements are not always agreed upon but widely discussed. You may have opened a can of worms.

  3. 5.45 can be reloaded. Resize Remington .222 brass. RCBS makes reloading dies. I'vr read a few articles wherein the author reloaded steel cases. It requires annealing the cases. I'm sure there is more to it than that.

I think you're spot on reguarding KelTecs. No one knows the true longevity of them. They are a neat product but I wouldn't trust my family's life or my own to one until proven in hard conditions.

  4. You don't need a new gas block. Are you wanting a classic style or more of a tactical look? If you're wanting more options down the road then seriously consider a plain FSB and thread for either 14X.1 LH or one of the standard AR muzzle threads. You'll have TONS more options of muzzle devices than 24x1.5.

  5. You're right. The rear sights are RPK74 sights. I also have a standard 1000m Polish rear sight leaf just in case. The front sight is a XS Sights 24/7 tritium line. I own a set of photo-luminescent paint but it never impressed me. I like the once-and-done aspect of the tritium...for approx. 15 years anyway.

I like the highlights. Did you use photoluminescent paint? Also, did you file on that RPK sight? I'd prefer a peep, but that rear leaf looks a bit different from what I am used to.

I've been thinking of sticking some nightsiters glowing dots or lines on mine, and there might just be room to do that on the vertical portions of your sight leaf.

They aren't too much money, and if you don't like them, a razor blade will put you back where you started.
