OK, ImageJ is open source and written in Java so it can be run on a PC or a Mac. It'll just take more effort. Unfortunately, that whole research community that I went to talk to is stocked to the gills with Macs so they don't have any suggestions other than ImageJ for PC. Sorry I can't be of more assistance! BTW, they mentioned the camera that you use and have one for the group for outreach purposes. They like it a lot.

hmmm... software suggestion? OK, I went upstairs to ask my friends who do all the research using high speed cameras. If you have time and don't want to spend money you could download ImageJ and the plugin Slice Remover. They said that you could remove every Xth image and sew that together into a movie. If you want to spend money my friend said that Final Cut Pro would do it "no sweat." Sorry I don't have more, I've not done it myself but watched the handiwork of some of my friends.

That is an awesome video! If you wanted to shoot at 1200 frames/sec you could use your newer video editing software to adjust the frame rate afterwards by sampling the full data set at different frequencies. Thus the long time between shots could be made to appear faster but the shot coming out would be at one speed and the subsequent cycling of the action could be slightly faster (from the viewers point of view). I hope that makes sense, but then you could capture all the details but not make a 10 minute long video.

You'll find that your S12 will soon turn out to be addictive. Just wait till $525 turns into two grand, bwHA HA HA. $525 is a fair price. I've seen them cheaper but that is just about what I paid a year ago. Yes, you can shoot rifled slugs and buckshot out of it but unless you find a rifled choke, I would avoid the sabot slugs. Make sure you have three or four visible gas ports by removing the gas adjuster knob. Other than that you should be good to go.

Agreed. Rather than figuring out new ways to tax people they could just start spending less. I'd gladly pay the unmolested market price for a FA rifle/pistol/shotgun but a $5000 tax stamp? No way. We only are fortunate that the Fed has diluted our money supply to the point where $200 is even affordable to some.

I don't know about the flashlight but the forearm looks like a Galil style one from Tapco: http://store.carolin...-47-AK47/Detail

Used drums and new molot style grips... on gunbroker
physicsnerd replied to MikeD's topic in Saiga-12
Mike, are any of the Molot grips on Gunbroker for the Tromix DIY guard? -
I think the big thing to find out is if Alliance Armament did any mods to the guns to get the 30 and 20 round drums to work. I have read about problems (on this forum) that once they've been modified for those drums, other mags don't really work. Also, with the amount of stuff that you want to remove or change it might be more cost effective to either buy a custom build by one of the business members here or buy a stock Saiga (typically now around $480) and modify it yourself. Chaos even has a sale on now through July 31 and you could get some of his parts for great prices.

New Pistol Grips, Molot VeprII and Izhmash style!
physicsnerd replied to MikeD's topic in MDARMS.com
Sorry to hear that for you Lead. Perhaps the manufacturing differences were too large or there was an issue with his manufacturer. I guess you could post a WTB thread and see if anyone has some spares. -
New Pistol Grips, Molot VeprII and Izhmash style!
physicsnerd replied to MikeD's topic in MDARMS.com
Shooter, a few months ago I emailed MD Arms about being added to the contact list for the Tromix DIY compatible grip. The next morning I received an email saying that they were available but not on their website and that I could add one to my drum pre-order. It came but I never saw it as it was forwarded on to Rifle Dynamics for me and I've never owned an AK variant before the S12 so I wouldn't be able to comment on the differences anyway! But you should be able to contact them about ordering one. -
That is actually what got me thinking about them again. I was looking through the S12 pics thread and a lot of the older posts had guns with them in them.

Yeah, I know that is the easiest and least expensive option but it just struck me as odd that the factory .410 2-rounder is $29.95, the 20 gauge 2-rounder is $36.95 but the 12 gauge is $79.95. $30-$37 would put it more on par with a factory 5-rounder. Plus I have an irrational draw to the "official" two-rounder.

Thanks for the information guys. Cobra, I will have to pass. I like the arithmetic increase of mags in existence. The idea sacrificing one to create another makes me weep on the inside. BVamp: Hmmmmmm. Now, I kinda want to order one but the $80 price tag makes me pause. However, your indication that there is a finite and not easily increasable number of them in the US puts pressure on me to get one. haha

Thanks PA and Etek. I am not exactly sure when it will come back to me. On May 17 Jim said he thought it would be 2-3 months. I'm pretty patient though. I know that the longer he has it the less time I have to not have it tempt me (since it will be going back to my residency address and not my school address). As soon as it arrives though I'm going to add the Chaos Tri-Rail that I picked up from Cameron during his Memorial Day sale.

That is awesome. Did you pick up your two-rounder from SaigaStock? I want one for the same purpose!

From my previous thread you've probably gathered that I've read a lot of information on various issues regarding the S12. With that said, I understand why the Factory 8 rounders are difficult to get here in the states but I would love to get my hands on a Factory 2 rounder. I found one vendor that has them but they're $80/each. I have a Surefire 2-rounder and it works fine but it won't let me cycle the action on a closed bolt (that is, I can't do 2+1 just 1+1). Plus the factory one is Russian and that is just cool. Anyone have any information on why they're so hard to find or kno

I've been a lurker here absorbing lots of information on the S12 platform since I picked one up last summer. Since this forum has been such a valuable tool in understanding the gun and finding accessories I figured I should join and contribute! My S12 has been great. Since I figured out about the detents in the Gunfixr plug my gun has been solid with Federal Bulk on setting 3. That was my cue to convert it. With my current situation not really allowing me to do it myself (time, space and expertise) I sent it out to Jim Fuller at Rifle Dynamics. I can't wait to see it when it gets back

Oh man, I've gone crazy recently getting parts to optimize my S12. Now I have till midnight to decide if I want to add one at the pre-order price! Tempting, tempting...

It seems these two are still available (new contributor): 2349 7698 Thanks Mike!!
