  1. Patton was truly the man that was needed at the moment in time. Now I have a question that someone out there may know the answer to: As shown at several times Patton had 2 pistols on his belt (actually carried more than that), one was a Colt SAA in 45 Long Colt and the other a S&W 357 that became the bases for the model 28 N frame. The story is as I understand it before he went to the Smith he actually had a brace / 2 matched Colts but he gave one to an entertainer as a reward for putting on a show for the troops. Did this really happen and if so who was the entertainer that got Pa
  2. Tony a lot of what I'm out to get is really just more sight radius while I could shop around and find an old extended Bomar rail for shooting they're not very useful with a holster. Seems like you want the power to be had from a longer barrel and a real stopping something and backing it up 4 paces round. While that makes since I just want to hit the paper or the plate (sometimes the beer can) a little better. Just got a reply the gun I was looking at is sold so back to the drawing board.
  3. mec-gar may still be the OEM for colt, but if you want to try some of theirs don't buy from them go to a dealer / on line it's cheaper than from the factory. I have a bunch of their longer 11 rounders for my single stack comp/"race" gun and they've worked everytime feeding round nose and some very short semi-wadcutters. I don't know about the ones with the plastic floor plates but the standard 8 shot ones I have work fine.
  4. Seeing how it's a new gun (new to you) and if you're looking at a couple of parts to order from the description of the FTEs I'd still get a recoil spring (just so you know what spring rate you're dealing with for sure standard weight is 16 lbs, but I know people use up to 22 and as low as 11 depending on the gun and ammo, 18s are popular) and maybe an ejector too. What style ejector do you have now? Shown are a colt and an extended wilson.
  5. cool question I didn't 1st think of this in as a SHTF thing I was just going on my thing for have only one ammo for the long gun and the pistol. In the 70s I had a 44 super black hawk and one of rugers 44 semi auto carbines for brush hunting in Texas. Both gone along with the red hawk. Went to various 357 revolvers (DAs and SAs) and a 357 winchester trapper, as it became less hunting more plinking and a short trip to cowboy action shooting. All the old ones are gone but I picked up a colt SAA in 357 a little while back. Now a glock and a mech tech ccu chambered in 9mm for plinking
  6. "It's not the years, honey, it's the mileage" from Raiders of the Lost Ark. a lot of my miles (57) were off road and I've got some leaks and loss of compression
  7. Seems like everyday there's a new post on 1911s, it's got next to me. I've got and had several 1911s over the years. There were some I wish I'd kept and some I was glad to let go but I never got one that's been on my to-do list a long slide. Closest I came was an early Springfield Factory Comp gun, 5" slide, a little longer threaded barrel, and a 2 chamber comp. Nice gun but it's a single stack 45acp, comp puts you in open with a lower mag capacity even with the 170mm mags than most of the other open shooters. Now I'm looking at buying or building a long slide. There are some good factory
  8. mec-gar makes some pretty good mags at a good price. those recoil buffers are fairly cheap to buy and save some wear and tear on the gun oover time, I've got one in everything my goofy brother in law has two of them in his para. on the FTEs that might be a couple of things depending on if it failed to extract or smoke stacked. Extractor wear and loose grip on the rims over time and use, and some times smoke stacks are from having a heavier recoil spring than the load your shooting needs. new extractors and recoils springs are both fairly cheap and easy to replace if needed. if you get the chan

Just got through a few crappy months myself, I hope things look up for you. Remember, everything in life is sweeter when you've been tasting shit for awhile!

Hey you are lucky. My furnace from 82 died so tat was upgraded to high efficiency. Central AC was finally installed too. That was a HUGE credit card bill.

I strongly suggest a hi Eff furnace for resale purposes and a new AC unit that has a high SEER rating and a scroll motor. SCroll motors are more quiet. Have fun deciding.

  9. I picked one up years ago and just put a thick recoil pad on it and could shoot it fine. That and I really liked the barrel shorter on it.
  10. not that it may matter but it might be a youth model / shorter barrel and stock. good price if the stock fits you well enough.
  11. you're saying gas port as in 1, should be more than 1. a 19" barrel gun has 3. if high brass slugs cycle and lighter loads don't I'd still be looking at the gas system not the mag yet.
  12. Thanks. What I've seen on drawing and playing find the dot is I feel like I find it when the muzzle is pointed down somewhat. This comes I think from years of drawing and having the muzzle a little up to spot the front sight then bringing it down. So now when the gun is level it just feels like its still muzzle down. The fun of relearning to draw a gun and get it on target wow the fun never ends. Do you shoot speed steel, draw, 5 plates, and repeat 5 times its fun and with 4 or 5 stages you get a lot of practice drawing.
  13. Cool build. If I was starting over I would have used a model 22 and compensator for the build mainly because I believe you get better recoil reduction with a comp than porting. I had planned just going to limited not open but the dropping a red dot on the gun changed that status. Having the 24 with being able to easily change barrels between a 9mm and 40 S&W cal does give me a could of things and I like the 9mm on speed steel a little better than the 40. The other side of the coin is if you have to knock it down or off the power of the 40 beats the 9, I hate hitting a Texas star plate
  14. the 19 next to the 24 set up in use, the 24 might be a little too big for a carry gun
  15. photo of the area should note I have not heard back from Glock as of yet.
  16. Years ago I got cussed by a gunsmith that I had taken a Norinco slide to for getting some dovetails cut to put better sights on. It was the hardest metal he had ever come across and broke or dulled every cutter he touched it with.
