  1. I read through many articles on this site, been to the ak builder site, watched several vids on youtube about the various parts kits, and from that it appears there are many problems mixing and matching parts, as well as the quality of the parts. I do not recall seeing any Izmash parts kits. but hey, like i wrote before I am sure these are dumb questions.
  2. I wanted to get a parts kits for the hobby of building one (buying the flat, making a copy of the patter and then making one, bending the flat, heat treating the thing,) and after I totally f that up I will just buy one and then I can see what it was supposed to look like. Its the journey not the f'd up end product.
  3. Hmmmmmmm.....I guess I misunderstood all the discussions about the various manufacturers, quality, parts and reliability. I saw a lot of questions about this gas tube fitting on that model. But, since I am on to stupid questions I got one more....Can I buy a AK74 flat, then fold it up and use a Saiga type sporting stock and buy a trigger group/assembly so it looks and works like a pre conversion? I actually do not like the pistol grip. Thanks for the info.
  4. I want to buy an AK 74 parts kit (you know a demilled 74 with out the receiver). I see polish, egyptian, chinese, this and that, but can I get a parts kit for an Izmash made 240? I want the parts to be interchangeble with the Izmash 240 if I purchase one. I want to limit the variety of spare or replacement parts I would have to buy.
  5. Underwood raised his ammo prices again. something like 20% in the last year
  6. any yoose guys have trouble shooting 7n6 at a range? I hear the mild steel core is not welcome.
  7. on the AK builders website I see there seem to be several types of 80% lowers, but I do not see an 80% lower, or just the flat plate, for a saiga 7.62x39. I do not know all the diferences between the various types, MAK90, saiga, bulgarian, hungarian, polish and so on. I would like to buy parts kit for a 7.62x39 and finish the lower myself and I believe I would like to make a Saiga or Russian AK. Do I have that option? From what I have seen so far I would have to buy the kit for a chines, romanian or other. And, what is the difference between the 1mm and 1.5 mm, besides 0.5mm? Is there a sprea
  8. Bigtwin - searching the internet I see milling AR lowers is very popular, but bending AK lowers seems to be the way to go. I have seen many sites, photos and videos whereby you can drill/mill a flat plate then bend it into the shape of the receiver, or buy an 80% AK lower that is already bent, slip over a drill/mill paper pattern and finish the job. It requires some riveting and or spot welding and a parts kit to complete, but its not the gun its the process. AND the gun is the empty lower, not the fully assembled firearm. AND if I still understand correctly if you make the lower yourself for
  9. I am looking into the AK (not 80% AR) receivers. Anyone made one of those? I see you can buy the stamped base, tape on a drill/mill pattern and it looks fairly easy and the AK looks a lot simpler. Any dope on dat?
  10. ok I am back with a follow up to my original, and quite frankly im befuddled that no one presented this option - Make my own lower for a 7.63x39 and transfer over "all" of the parts...that are interchangable. I have seen lately a lot of sites with very detailed info on how to buy a blank rolled/stamped lower and that you can wrap a drill/mill pattern on it and make your own lower. And, ifs I understand correctly, if you make the lower yourself, for yourself, you do not need a serial number, nor are you required to register it, provided you do not sell it. Can I download the electronic specif
  11. Yes, I figured I would just by another in 7.62x39, but figured there are no "stupid questions" so I might as well ask. There are so many people making mods and swaping parts that I figured it could not hurt too much to ask before I spent the money. A buddy just bought a Glock 20 cause he can shoot 10mm, 40SW, 9x25 dillon and 357 sig just by swaping barrels, using the same magazine (all cases are based on the 10mm). Say, what's the best price from a distributor. I would like to have it shipped to an FFL. The store prices I see are too high. I got a good deal on my 308 that way. Thanks.
  12. Hello, I searched the fourm topics did not find a discussion regarding this topic. I was curious if I could "easily" convert my saiga 308 16" to a 7.62x39 to take advantage of the significantly lower price in ammo? Is it a one way conversion or can I convert back and forth with out gunsmithing?
  13. Uh, I think I missed something when I stepped out for a few dozen pizzas. I was going to the next crossroads ofda west show to pick up some wolf 7.62x51 and was wondering if the price has increased from $173 per 500 box (with state tax), and now you are writing about a different load/bullet? First, is the round the same as the previous years, and second has the price increased and thirdly, does this mean I have to sight in my g-unit all over again? I thought the orginal round was 145/147 grain fmj @ ~ 2800 pfs. If there is a new version, do you know the specs are? Thanks.
  14. Now that i am getting more familiar with my saiga 308, I am thinking of picking up a Saiga 12 or Mossberg 500 pump (with the 2 barrels). I know discussing the Saiga and Mossberg is a little like apples and applesauce, but I can see the advantages of both. I can pick up the Mossy for $279, but from what I can see so far the Saiga is $500, and 500-279 = a lot of shells for shootin. What would be a good price for a Saiga 12 and where from? Thanks in advance.
