  1. GOBIs there anything I need to be aware of if I want to replace the screws/nuts with rivets? This is my 1st Saiga conversion. I did not find it particularly difficult, I just followed the CSS on-line video, but I am definitely a beginner re working on Saiga's. What size rivets s/b used? I do not have a rivet tool, but I have no problem buying one. Any recommendations or advice is appreciated.
  2. I converted my 7.62 using a Tapco trigger kit from CSS and have fired over 1,000 rounds. I checked the nuts that replaced the rivets in the conversion and was suprised that none had loosened up. I did not use lock-tite in the conversion. Have others had the same experience with them staying tight? Do others use lock-tite to make sure? I was thinking I should check them periodically, but am I wasting my time?
  3. Brown/Silver Bear, Uly, and WWB all have equivalent accuracy for me in FMJ. Winchester/Remington HP/SP VERY slight accuracy edge vs the others. I have had no failures to feed or fire with any of these. At 30 yards 5in or under groups (usually under). At 100 yards 6-10in groups. For optics I am very pleased with my Weaver 1-3x. It is about as small a scope as you can get and in a UTG side mount w/Burris tactical rings it has held zero for over a year. I have a Leupold VX1 on my bolt action .308 and I consider the Weaver just a little lower quality in a side by side comp.
  4. I get 6-10 inch groups at 100 yards with a Weaver 1-3x mounted on a UTG quick detatch side mount. Brown/Silver Bear, Uly, and white box Winchester all group the same for my7.62. The Weaver is a nice scope purchased new on sale under $160. Very small profile and it also co-witnesses well at 1x with the iron sights. I'd be very surprised if anyone can actually get better than 5-6 inch groups consistently at 100 yards with a stock Saiga 7.62. That said, the weapon is great at 30 yards where I get 2-5 inch groups all day long. At 100 yard or less it is the weapon I would want to have if the stuff
  5. I am running a UTG detachable side mount w/Weaver 1-3x. I have fired +1000 rounds of 7.62 and removed the mounted scope, cleaned my Saiga, remounted and had no shift in zero 2x. I am also very satisfied with the Weaver 1-3x. I ordered the scope and Burris tactical rings off Midway and got the whole package delivered at under $200. I use the rifle at 100 yards and under and the 1-3x is fine for fast aquisition and clear glass at these ranges.
  6. Many thanks to all who replied. Since my original post I found out that Bass Pro Shop in Grapevine Tx (near DFW airport) will allow AK's on the 100yrd indoor range if you use SP's. I did have to make an appointment 4 days in advance at Bass Pro. I didn't know there was a range in Mesquite, but I think I will head out there in the future when I want to can get more practice at 100 yds. Thanks for the heads-up on leaving my weapon in the car when I check-in.
  7. Does anyone know of a DFW gun range (indoor or outdoor) that allows AK's using FMJ ammo at 100 yards? Elm Fork only allows AK's on the 30 yard tactical range, regardless of ammo. Bullet Trap in Plano only has an indoor 30 yrd range. DFW gun range 30 yrd only. I just scoped my Saiga 7.62 conversion (1-3x weaver scope on side rail) and would like to sight it in at 100 yards. Any help?
  8. I'm a 1st time Saiga owner and I just bought a 7.62 rifle & conversion kit fr CSS including a magpul stock, SAW grip, and what is described on the CSS website as "trigger group-saiga rifle modified fire control group". The fire control group includes; modified g2 fire control group, disconnect spring, & axis pin rifle plate. I will attempt my conversion as soon as I get clarification on a couple of points. I am using the 7.62 conversion video posted here http://vimeo.com/2787027 as a guide. On this video I see 2 parts that that are removed but not reused in the video. They are: 1.
