  1. To those who use the Gunfixer, V-plug or Autoplug and others, try to tune your gun to shoot ther crappiest ammo from the hip, or do the tune it to hit the sweet spot when fired from your shoulder. Most of the time I've noticed there are two different reliability settings for shouldered and unsupported fire. I had my gun running on the autoplug when I fired from the shoulder, but I kept tuning until there weren't any failures when I fired it from the hip, so it was not backed by my shoulder. Then I thought maybe I was overdoing it a bit; how are all of you tuning your guns? To be failure fr
  2. you need a ak74 gas tube to replace the saiga style one, make sure you get a threaded muzzle FSB and lower handguard retainer. If you want to build closer to a SGL31 then use the arsenal trigger group
  3. VT doesn't allow silencers, but I'm fine with all of the negatives I had listed anyways. I was currently thinking more of turning a saiga 12 I own into a SBS, but wanted to know for future reference how it pertains to SBR. Down the road I want to turn an AKM to a SBR
  4. Thanks sunnybean, good information. Your saying the form for travel is good for a year right? I understand that the form to SBR/SBS is a one time purchase and filing, and in state use would only require that original form, correct?
  5. Other than the prohibitive cost gain in flash and loss of velocity, are there any other downsides to getting a SBR or SBS? I'm more concerned about legal ramifications, like if after you get the stamp for a SBS do you get random visits to check on the SBS/SBR? Travel is likely limited based on state laws, but what can you tell me about the hassles that aren't obvious.
  6. Two things I can think of are left to be the culprit; you and the ammo. Undersized or out of spec ammunition could cause POI to be off, also shooter flinching, pulling or whatever the case may be could cause you to send rounds more left than when you started pulling the trigger. I suggest trying a different box of ammunition (different as in go buy a box not use another box you might have left of the same), I had a box of 5.45x39 that was loaded with 5.56 bullets, not something you could see by eye, but kept getting stuck in the throat and finally put a caliper to it and it was in fact ove
  7. I also like the spineless chinese mags just cause they're easier on the hands. The best I've found are the bulgarian waffle mags I like them cause they're lighter don't have as much rustable surface, harder to dent and don't mar surfaces they rub on.
  8. If you mean like the take off from an SLR than yes one screw through the upper tang and then a grip screw. I don't really know why you'd choose it out of all the choices you have ecspecially since its not compliant but that your decision not mine. I find the stock uncomfortable on my SLR and think the problem would be exaggerated on a S12.
  9. I almost suggested the charging handle mod instead, as well, but figured he already had an offering like it.
  10. It all depends on the customer, some people perceive 59.99 as being significantly less than 60; I always round up in my head when thinking on costs, but its easier for me to spend five twice than 10 once if you know what I mean. I would do as suggested by a couple others and keep the glass bolt the same and then offer trigger face profiling as a separate service or add on.
  11. Reprofile and polish bolt and action or get it done by someone like pauly Dremell a feed ramp into the barrel then polish Polish barrel hood Enlarge or expose port holes if needed
  12. I can't believe some of you think this is serious. I think its funny as hell
  13. Maybe I'm wrong, but I would try a good brass brush and some good cleaning solvent let it sit in the barrel and then scruba again and swab and it'l likely come out.
  14. You shouldn't avoid chinese, they're great. I think the romanian wind up drums are the best bang for the buck. Wind up is key for me, and I don't buy the korean. Of course russian are the most desirable, then I believe the norinco (chinese) are the next most preferable. Wind ups load easier and you can store them loaded under no spring tension.
  15. I went polymer mil-spec. I hate pro-mags and bulgarian "Bullet" mags, I dislike Tapcos but they work alright. Bulgarian waffle mags are what I think are best along with the us palm mags, but the european steel mags are the best value @ $10 a mag. When people ask me for pro-mags I still don't understand
  16. They expect them by the end of this week they should have enough to fill their pre orders at least. Thanks guys you just cost me some dough
  17. I think the best is a double cobra stitch 550 paracord sling (looks like the survival bracelets but much longer. Pain in the ass the guess the starting cord lengths and the first 3/4 is a bitch to weave because of the length of the cord you need to pull it off without tying or fusing pieces together.
  18. I can't see how any forum could ever tire of you, 2 posts in and your already trying to test your limits with the moderators... you know what they say about looking for a fight.
  19. Most of the above posts are exactly what I think. You may think you know much more that you really do, you could know every nuance of ARs and AKs but if you don't know your bolt rifles and duck hunting shotguns your not going to work out in most gun shops, and those that cater to one type or another of firearms (tacticool stores) are likely staffed small and set in there ways, you come in and try and tell em' how much you know they might laugh at you and think you're a full of shit bragger who learned everything from video games and soldier of fortune. If you know your shit as well as imp
  20. So NC's K-9 units will also be destoyed? Clearly these animals have shown their potential to be abused or mistrained, but also have proven their value numerous ways. Seems similar to the anti-gun arguments
  21. I also agree that an auto-plug (tac-47) would be good, but I think they might be out of stock most places. Buying someone furniture and whatnot for a gun is going into a personal area where his taste will dictate what he'd want on his gun. I would strongly suggest Magazines; APG 10 rounders or a MD-Arms Drum would be hard to miss with, since we all could use more mags and the good options are limited. A sheet thrower might be something to look into, something that throws them for you. Or you could get him some exploding targets
  22. Reprofile the hammer face to match the factory, I bet you could find a nice tutorial if you looked, otherwise try to match the G2 to the factory by lining up the pin hole and the shelfs on the side of the hammer face, then take notice of where the Tapco hammer face needs to be reduced, leave the same higher point but smooth the transitions. I'd go into more detail, but there are previous multiple reply topics on this subject http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/50571-how-do-i-polish-the-bolt/
  23. Ditch the pro-mag. Factory, APG and MD Arms are the mags that seem to work the best (MD Drum Mag)
