  1. no offense, but i gave 4 chances for nc star to work, including a spotting scope, no go at this station. for the push pull recoil effect of a semi, go find an air rifle designed scope, they wont be fabulous, but they will be good for punishment.

is there a good drop in replacement trigger for the saiga 308, and you dont have to add a pistol grip? I hate these "S" curved triggers, but I like the look of the stock rifle.
  3. Texas says hello! Don't be surprised, when your two saigas are more accurate, than what you've ever been told a Semi could do. Saiga builds a fine bbl.
  4. I must say, that does sound a bit diff. Did you buy it new or used? If you bought it new, with the dimples and the ramp, I'm sure others here just might like to know where they may purchase a few. Oh, and how much was the little darlin'?
  5. easy. 223=more variety, more accuracy, more downrange hits. 762.39 = inside of 100 yards, clears the whole area.
  6. i bought a lula loader , fully thinking, " this is going to be soooo gimicky!" now i have 3 of them, and wonder how I possibly got up in the mornings without them before! they are that good.
  7. no, no, no worries, these are quite good! any of the new or old british empire stuff is quite good, better than nato from what i have used.
  8. generally speaking, the 223 is lighter, more accurate, comes in more varieties, is easier to find. Basically everything is better in 223. that being said , for work inside 100 yds, to quote a line from Samuel L. jackson , in the movie jackie brown, " When you absolutely, positively, have to kill every m.f. in the room..." ak 47. the round is a much better stopper when it comes to larger game and the like.
  9. you are right and wrong here, yes the top cover one will move around. but what are we really trying to do with a peeper? I would say , we are not target or sill shooting, we are shooting inside 200 yds. what we want with a peeper on a weapon like this, is fast, both eye target aquire, fast follow up , more acc than the factory sights, type shooting. you will achieve this, even with the top cover weaver type rail. but you are right, if some dude waive a magic wand , and both types appeared on a table in front of me, i would go with the rail mount.
  10. i will say the 223 willsurprise you with its accuracy with either winchester 45 grn varmint rounds or black hills blue box 55 grns. plus , right now , you can get high cap mags to work in it. the hicap 308 mags are not quite there yet.
  11. you can get a little weaver rail that attaches to the side rail, or replace your top cover with one that has the top weaver rail on it. then put on a aftermarket peeper . they will be better than the ones that replace the rear leaf site, you need this close to the eye.
  12. Y E S ! ...remember the scene of meg ryan from the movie , "when harry met sally"?
  13. just read another article n the mini, starting in 2005, it is made to be max capable of 2 moa at 100 yds. if you would find any new mini that shot better than this, you would have an exceptional one.
  14. saturday afternoon. mag comes in, flawless in form and function. thanks much, baby! good to go.
  15. thats a great link. thanx wow! let me tell you , that 22 ak is about as poplular as any 22 has ever been right now. all the dealers and gunshow guys have this near or over 300 bucks. so this is actually stealing. I shall have it.
  16. as an aside; i bought an old marlin mod 81 off an auction site, really wanted this rifle ,as it shoots all the 22 rounds, holds 25 shorts in the tube, and has a factory peep site! could not tell from the site pics how bad a shape it was in, but he had said it had no bluing, was rusty, and the action was rough. So i took a chance and bought it. when i got it , and took it out of the shipping box , IT WAS ORANGE! i was horrified to say the least. complete rust bucket. i remebered talking to the sweetshooters guy here a bunch, so i deciced to buy some at the next show and give it a shot.
  17. well i go to all the shows around houston, so i get mine a few bucks cheaper, 'cuz i know all the dealers, but man lemme tell you, it still ain't cheap! go to this site. http://tecrolan.com/ I cna get the pint cans for 15 bucks, and I got the 1/2 gal , i think it is, that comes with paste, cleaning kit, big tooth brush, with stainless steel deep pan and stainless steel grate for 90 bucks , i believe it was. you gotta put your stuff in stainless. I had a steel shop build me a trough that was 6 inches wide 3 inches deep, and 36 inches long, to dunk whole bbls and actions. cost was about 5
  18. Hey - your Saiga 7.62 will kick the ass of any Mini 30 out there. The mini 30 will throw 6" groups on a good day and even 8" is considered normal (100 yards). They have a long throat with .308" bores - allows you to shoot either .311" com block ammo or handloads with .308" bullets or some such BS. I am completely down with O.S.O.K.,hunert percent correct. I have a 16 in bbl one , and when i go to the range, it completely destroys any mini out there, and also most all other ak variants. when i tell them how much i paid for it, they look at their rifles with utter disdain and revulsion
  19. onepoint is right, the mil did use 1/7 twist for about 2 to 3 yrs, mid 80's , to stabilize the tracers, but they switched to 1/9. the problem with the 1/7 twist is that , if you use bullets 40 to i think 55 grns, they will literally fly apart when leaving your muzzle... I would not think that an ak or ar ,to the public at large, type mfgr , would go with a 1/7 twist. 1/9 twist covers everything from 40 to 69grnrs.
  20. not here on friday, if not here by sat. then no way it will be here mon or tues, will have to look again on Wed.
  21. yep, i thought fbmg guy once told us here it was 1/9. 1/7 would be overkill.
  22. first off, the black hills, up to 62 grns, are very good, and the winchester 45 varmint round is a one hole punch in mine. i also dunked mine in a stainless steel trough , i had built for just this occasion, and filled it with sweetshooters. left it soaking for about 1 week, out in the heat of a covered porch, here in Houston. then i molycoated the bore. What does all this do , you ask. the sweetshooters, removes ANY even teeny tiny remoatest bit of any type of h20 , that might be locked up in pores somewhere. That controls, expansion, contraction , etc. it is also a super dry lube, I
