  1. its a first son enterprise's faux-folder.
  2. ive had some bad luck w/ wolf 62gr (a case i purchased cheap a couple of years ago). i found it odd that it chokes an ak, so i started inspecting the cartridges better as i loaded the mags......i noticed lots of instances of split necks, long necks, inconsistent neck crimps, shaved jackets/jacket bunching at the case neck, etc.....seems that this lot had no apparent QC before it left the factory, or maybe it was a whole bunch of rejects packaged for quick/cheap sale.....kinda turned me off to wolf, and i stick w/ silver bear now.......seems you may have the same probs i had.
  3. as mentioned above, the kci 30rd mags tend to be wider than mil-spec ak mags....but thats a good thing if you have a century wasr w/ oversized cut mag wells..... bigger prob i had was that the follower hung up on spot weld "pimples" on the inside of the mags (maybe 4 or 5 rounds from the top of the mag). i had to dremel clearance notches on the follower in order to get the mags to work reliably.....not a big deal, 30 seconds w/ the dremmel and they work fine. but at the price point of surplus mags, kci is not really an option.
  4. J&G sold out about two weeks ago. Classic Arms still has some I believe. http://www.classicfirearms.co/Saiga.htm Classic states that this 20" model has 300m rear sights, but mine came w/ 1000m rear sights. flat trunnion too. and no, its not a 308 barrel on a 5.45 receiver!!
  5. yeah, the s308 is heavier than the other saigas....esp in front. i like the balance better in the smaller saiga models. ive always liked a lighter barrel in the s308, and never understood why the russians but sucha thick barrel on the s308....... mho, i think that the heavier barrel is for two reasons: 1. as jk47 mentioned, heavy is better to tame 308 in a relatively small platform, and 2) i think izmash designed it that way because a heavy stiff barrel ought to twist/torque less on firing and that lessened "Whip" won't translate in receiver twist for a sheet metal frame that was neve
  6. cfortune, i got the ram trigger guard for the s308, but the existing hole (by the mag catch) dd not line up with the screws holes on the ram tg.......i couldn't really see a way to put it inside the mag catch base, so i drilled two new tg screw holes. no big deal, but it was not a "drill one hole" deal for me......i think that there is a wide range of tolerances for the saigas. i had to trim the back side base of the ram tg, since it over hanged into the pg nut hole....again, no big deal, but not drop in like the other saigas.....ymmv.
  7. yeah, i had a loose hg on my s308. The screw hole in the receiver is too big and the hg shifts fwd/aft regardless how tight you tighten the screw. i fashioned a plastic washer/doughnut that fits in that gap in the receiver and the screw diameter.....from a 2L soda bottle cap. drill a hole that is the diameter of the screw, and i used a finger nail cutter to trim the OD of the improvised washer to fit into the receiver hole.....worked like a charm, nice and tight even under 308 recoil. hth
