  1. I like the show. If you've ever been interviewed on the news or anything, you know just how much "reality" is warped by even simple editing. Add to that the producers sucking up and asking... "Could you do it again, but this time..." etc. We're watching weeks of work edited down into 30 minutes. So most everything "wrong" is just simplifications and gloss-overs for a mass audience. I don't even believe the bullet holes in the targets unless I see them being made in one continuous shot. The instant there's a cut, that next image could be from weeks later, or weeks earlier etc. Jus
  2. This is exactly what's happening. One could look at the ATF study coming out at the same time as Izhmash going tits-up as just adding fuel to the fire. Or you could almost look at it as serendipity, that if the Saigas were going to dry up anyway, at least the people who are hooked into the online gunboard scene got early warning over the ATF flap. So presumably most all the Saigas that remained went to them instead. If they just dried up slowly due to Izhmash, then a lot more "regular guys", or just people buying them out of blind luck when and where they did would have gotten
  3. Has anybody gotten word if Molot or Tula will be picking up the slack from Izhmash yet? Also, with inflation and the weak U.S. dollar, expect to pay more no matter what.
  4. Well, with Izhmash ceasing production, and things being up in the air with Molot and Tula, and the U.S. importers switching around, I think S12's were going to dry up for a bit anyway, so those who "panic bought" probably will be glad they did anyway. Also, unless the ATF has their panties in a wad about all sorts of imported shotguns, it's possible they're going after the Taurus/Rossi shotgun pistols instead. Word is that the new 28ga Judge revolver got confiscated, (bore size .55cal, and rifled, possible DD declaration) and the Rossi .410ga mare's leg disappeared, possibly "voluntarily"

    Uh Oh...

It's a pretty tight timetable, OTOH, they've reversed themselves before, just ask Mr. Akins about his Accelerator Stock. He had tech branch letters that said "not a machine gun" and then they later changed their minds. Although, they may be leaving the Saiga alone. Word is that at SHOT, Taurus/Rossi got their new 28ga Judge revolver confiscated, and the Rossi .410 Mare's leg, or they pulled them from display "voluntarily" after a trademark ATF "uncomfortable conversation". The .28ga, if someone ever made slugs or a metal cased bullet/cartridge for it would have been .55cal and a possible D

That's because nobody else goes to the ATF booth at SHOT, they just walk by and shoot them the stink-eye. I'm thinking a lawyer is a little more comfortable rubbing elbows with the scum of the Earth in a professional capacity.

I can't get that link to open, but another candidate is those Turkish AR pattern shotguns that have started coming in. Is this what you were trying to post?

    Uh Oh...

I'm still nervous... OTOH, if you think about it, as it comes from Izhmash, it's a MonteCarlo stocked semi-automatic shotgun that holds five shells. That's it. Functionally, no different than some Beretta, or Benelli, or some Turkish cheapo import with a tube mag. All the stuff we do to them are after they have the magic number of U.S. parts and are no longer "imported". So maybe now it is about some other shotgun. Or at worst, they'll just refuse further importation. The main problem is the thousands and thousands of Saiga's that have presumably come into the U.S. The ATF NF

Praying here myself. I could kind of see the ATF just turning a blind eye towards the Saiga's. If they were to suddenly ban them or declare them DD's, they'd possibly have some embarrassing questions as to why they allowed so many thousands in before dropping the curtain on them. What suddenly made them so dangerous NOW? Also, with the '94 landslides over the AWB, and the '10 landslides in general, the ATF might be looking for an easy target to look busy/important on the Norinco trench-gun replicas, but be afraid to piss off all gun owners that much if they went after Saigas which ar

    Uh Oh...

Well, the Streetsweeper was not helped by it's association with South Africa/Apartheid. Or just Cobray in general which already kind of had a "gangster weapon" reputation for the MAC clones they made. And just as FYI, totally unsubstantiated, but this may not have anything to do with the Saiga at all. There's now a rumor this has to do with shotguns that have bayonet lugs. Which might mean the Norinco Remington Model 12 clones in WWI guise might be the target. If that's the case, it's just make-work for the ATF to look busy. Low-hanging fruit and all that. Saying the bayonet lug is a

    Uh Oh...

Well, worst case, they go DD like the USAS-12, and we get an amnesty period. However, AFAIK, there's a LOT more Saiga's stateside than there ever were Streetsweepers and USAS's. They may not be able to handle the paperwork, nor may they be too keen on popping thousands of American's cherries on the whole NFA experience. Who might just then decide "That wasn't so bad..." and then create whole new markets for SBS's, SBR's, suppressors, AOW's and even other DD's like the 40mm launchers. Also, in the link I posted above from PrinceLaw blog, they stated that it did not involve DD's.

    Uh Oh...

The ATF has flat-out said in the past things like (I paraphrase): "The use of a particular firearm in a military/police-style shooting competition is not sufficient cause for it to meet suitability under the sporting purposes clause of the GCA '68" etc. Which is essentially saying, "To the ATF/Treasury "Sporting Purposes" means:" 1. Fudd Guns. 2. Whatever we say it means. And as to the part in bold, you're right. That's ultimately the motivation behind most all gun control. They always go after "militaristic looking" guns, not for fear of what the next spree shooter might do,

    Uh Oh...

Unfortunately, they're going to operate under the authority given to them and the Sec. of the Treasury by the '68 GCA until the SCOTUS makes them stop. Unfortunately, assuming you've got the "perfect plaintiff and case", it'll take years to get to them, and further assuming we get two plaintiffs in two different districts with two different decisions to create a conflict. And there's no guarantee even with the current court's makeup that they'd rule in our favor. They may decide that the "sporting purposes" clause is valid on imports under commerce or other Federal powers, but if someone

  15. Which fore-end is that?
  16. The other thing being that the SAW pouch is dirt cheap, less than $9 each most places. Probably because most people don't own a SAW. They commonly seem to be Desert Tan/Coyote Brown due to the recent unpleasantness in the Middle East. It may not match the gear that civilian folks want to wear here Stateside, but other than the very pale ACU grey, it's the lightest/easiest color to dye with RIT at home. Personally, I've got a mix of gear colors, and don't really worry about it as long as it's all where I want it. I kind of like the mis-matched OD/Tan/ACU/Black mix of things. Maybe it's
  17. Another vote for the AK-100 style. However to retrofit one to your Saiga, the entire rifle must be disassembled down to the bare receiver. Even the front and rear trunnions have to have their rivets drilled and punched out so they can be removed too. This way, the proper rear trunnion shown in the picture of the parts above can be fitted, and the receiver needs to have a rectangular hole milled into it, and have the latching mechanism for the folded position installed before the front trunnion is put back in and re-riveted into place. My FFL has an AK-100 style stock on his Saiga for the s
  18. That's well and good, but only if you want to deter. If you need to stop and you have only birdshot, your'e screwed. It does not take some leather-clad roid-hulk-monster to shrug off birdshot. Anyone operating under adrenaline can fail to be stopped if you don't destroy the CNS, heart, or get a mobility-kill on a major bone, the spine, or pelvis. That energy the perp in your story expended in fleeing could just as easily been used to continue the attack in another situation. And now your still very-alive and very mobile perp has a shotgun wound to retaliate for. I would suggest
  19. What we need is a remotely MOTORIZED poly-choke, for changing your shot pattern on the fly. With little up-down selector buttons on the forearm or pistol grip. Why? I don't know... Just because it's perversely stupid. Maybe add a voice-chip that says "Full", "Modified", "Slug", in Majel Barrett's voice as you hit the buttons. . Seriously though, the flash hider Poly choke is what I'm getting on mine as soon as I've saved up. I won't need anything else.
  20. Yes, the "Examiner" blog-system is cleverly designed to look like a larger newspaper or publication-based website. They do stuff like use your IP to put your city name in and whatnot as well to make it look like local news etc. as well depending on what options the blogger sets. The purpose of the SBS category was that the original NFA draft that would have had all handguns be NFA items as well, and they didn't want people cutting down non-NFA rifles and shotguns into "handguns", the SBS, SBR, and AOW categories were created. When handguns were dropped from the NFA bill, those categories
  21. They need to team you up with Howe & Howe tech, they make the mini-tanks, you make the guns!
  22. Well, with 9 pellet buckshot loads, and 20 round drums... that's 180 individual projectiles right there. You've got just as much flying lead, just not as many empties or bangs.
  23. What you want is probably just a conversion kit from Carolina Shooter's Supply. http://store.carolin...A-12/Categories Pick the bundle with the stock style you want, or part it out and get the stock type separately you want if it's not one that comes in the bundle. (I got the ACE folder and Tromix parts kit separate) Converting isn't too hard. Mainly you're drilling out the rivets for the extended trigger parts to give you enough reach for the U.S. import-legal Monte Carlo style stock. Then drilling out the rivets for the old trigger guard. Then mounting the new trigger guard, in
  24. Wow. Thanks for the heads upon the even better deal. You just have to remember that some of us HAVE to shoot slugs due to our range rules. I'd be happy to shoot the birdshot for break-in and basic function testing, but I can't.
