  1. Those Dupleks Hexolit slugs seem NASTY with the expanding blades of lead etc. and weigh well over 1oz. I have no idea if they're just sales hype, and they are crazy expensive at like $20 for a box of five. (ouch). Apparently we discussed them here last year. http://forum.saiga-1...showtopic=46730 Looking at their site, what REALLY interests me are the solid steel slugs with plastic driving bands. Screw hunting, I'm thinking of unique tactical applications on cars and such.
  2. Yes, the mass is 1/8th oz less, and the pressure is even lower, when these Federal bulk-packs aren't exactly barn burners to begin with. The only real downside to converting Fed. bulk pack birdshot (aside from your time and labor) is that as slugs go, it's not a very powerful load, but that's not the point. We're looking for cheap range/blasting fodder to feed the 10 and 12 round mags and drums, and for those of us who have ranges or clubs that forbid shot on the rifle and pistol ranges. My club has trap shooting, but that's birdshot only obviously. We do have a patterning board, and
  3. What molds do you use? Maybe the Aluminum Lee ones don't need lube/carbon/smoke as much.
  4. I've been shooting for years, but the price savings on slugs finally has me getting into reloading. I always figured I'd get into handgun or rifle reloading first Thanks for the info, I've read a lot about mold heating, but maybe that was just important for rifle or pistols for target loads, for more consistency, or because they're so much smaller than shotgun slugs. And the bigger slugs and lead volume might just heat the mold up pretty quick I imagine. So just a little match or candle smoke is the release agent? (is it the carbon? I think most mold release sprays have some graphite
  5. Yes, it's SO CHEAP... you'd make the price back on making your own slugs pretty quickly from bulk pack ammo. The only thing holding me back is I just don't like the glue or silicone for sealing. Or cutting away the factory crimp. I'm stewing on it, but there has to be a quick and easy way to pull the factory crimp open so the loader can just put a proper crimp back on the shell. umm... i just used needle nosed pliers. opend up the crimp dropped in slug, pushed crimp back dow with a peice of dowel rod, they ran fine in my saiga. in fact if you watch my full auto vid with lonestar arms,
  6. Yeah, the Bushnell Holosights aren't technically knock-offs. Just less rugged versions of real Eotechs, like you said. I know they don't have the protective hood that the Eotech does, and I've heard they don't have the substance in the wiring to make it shock resistant. Other than that, they are the exact same. Even though they're Aimpoint clones......if you research Primary Arms like AJ recommended, you'll find that they're well liked and seem to hold up pretty damn good. I know we have quite a few members here who have them. Yeah, I've heard that myself, they usually

    Drums

They ARE BAD. Because feeding the drums will put you in the poor house.
  8. Also, they're not HOLOGRAPHIC. The "clones" are just reflex/red-dots that have the same shape as EOTech's. The Bushnell and the EOTech have a hologram that's illuminated by a laser diode, and the crosshairs act and focus like they're floating 100 yards out in space, and not like a reflection right on the glass. If you're in the market for inexpensive optics, I'd look at Vortex or Primary Arms. It's still China-mart stuff, but they do ride their suppliers as hard as they can from across the ocean on QC, and they back their products with good customer service if they actually do fa

    My New Saiga

Where do you all get to shoot birdshot willy-nilly? Just curious. I'm going to have to break in my Saiga with slugs only. My club/range only allows birdshot on the trap fields which are now shut down for the year. They don't like the bird shot tearing up the target frames. The only other exception is bowling-pin shoots, but those are slugs or buckshot, down to #4 IIRC. I'm wondering where I could go and put a Remington bulk-pack through to test things out.

  11. http://www.eastwave.ca/ Is probably the best. http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/ Is much better than it used to be in the past, but there's still anecdotal reports of orders becoming a nightmare if you need a return, or something does not work etc.
  12. Well, I for one am GLAD they're not DD's, but I'm sort of surprised they haven't been declared/classified as one either. Considering the USAS-12, Striker-12/Streetsweeper etc. were made DD's (shrug) And I'll admit that beating any DD classification was part of my motivations for finally getting off my but and buying one. Although my fingers are crossed that they never are.
  13. Well, a 12ga slug would probably be going no faster than hand-thrown after 1000 yards, and you'd be shooting at the moon in elevation, but it would still be a nasty conk on the noggin!
  14. I thought "The Spaniard" was legion across all gun boards, like the "Mall Ninja" (Gecko45), but I guess not. I'm glad I could entertain you with that bit of fun-tarded-ness.
  15. I wonder if it's the same guy as the infamous "AR15 Custom (freehand) Dremel-cut fluted barrel". Good Lord... Now I MIGHT be dumb/klutzy enough to do that, but I sure as hell would not post pictures of my handiwork!
  16. 'Doh! I'm counting the holes there. I think there's um... too many? I see a few drill skid marks too.
  17. Thank you! EXACTLY the good tech info I was looking for.
  18. Hi, Another newb here. Newb to Saiga's at any rate. Some might recognize my name from other forums. I've got a 19" Saiga 12ga on order, and I'm looking to do a PG and folding stock conversion on it. I've been reading the conversion and FAQ threads like a madman and I have most of it down. I've decided I want to go with an ACE folder and do the paracord-wrapped look, (and probably the Chaos fore-end rails & HK sights). I see ACE has the Saiga conversion grips, where you don't have to move the trigger and guard, but I'm looking to do a full conversion with the DIY Tromix

    FNG

That bullpup should have belonged to a walk-on role of someone playing Jayne's brother on "Firefly".
  20. The barrel shroud is making me weepy for the HK94A3 I sold way back in '97 to fund my wife's engagement ring. Well, I still have the wife, and got some kids out of the deal... ah shit, who am I fooling?
  21. Honestly, unless you added some kind of grit, or harder media, I don't think brass polishing media would do anything to the steel bolt but clean it very well. I don't think it would even polish the steel unless you ran it for weeks on end. I don't think it would be a contamination or gumming problem though, since any reloader is trusting the reliability of his bras's primer pockets and flash holes to the tumbler too.
  22. A shield like that is also shown in the video game "Army of Two". http://p3anut.files...._screen0041.jpg IIRC, an Arfcommer also made himself a shield like that, but it was more of a joke and "just because". I think he even made himself a pintle hardpoint to mount it all on the back of his pickup truck. I'm thinking I'll hold out for the electrical chainsaw bayonet.
  23. Also, walnut or corncob media as used to tumble brass would take an eternity to do much to high grade steel like a bolt. You'd need ball bearings or ceramic stones to get anywhere. And as others above mentioned, you'd get no control over what was being polished, or by how much.
