  1. To switch out the piston you need to remove the rivet that goes through the bolt carrier and piston. I believe that saigas actually dont use a rivet and they have a deep dimple that holds the piston in with static pressure. you must drill out these dimples before you can unscrew the piston. The new piston will need to be riveted in place, I just use any deformable steel shank such as a 16p nail. Hammer and anvil it flat inside the carrier and then sand it smooth.
  2. Just FYI that looks like the wrong bayo if you are wanting a ak74 fsb and brake. It looks like a type 1 and you want a type 2. just a heads up. I believe copes distributing and apexguns has then for around $30. And yes the tapco triggers are worth it. you will want a single hook for a saiga. They are not only great triggers for 30 bucks, they get your 3 us made parts for 922r compliance. Post pics when shes done
  3. Ive had some 5.45's that need a BG and some that don't, but i always put them in for good measure. The best guide that I have used is an actual bullet guide that has been removed from a trunion from a parts kit. Slightly modify it and install. I got mine from Kvar for about 20-30 bucks.
  4. I have an 16s and some 5.45 aks. I usually grab the ak's when going out back to kick up some dirt, mainly due to the price of ammo. If the SHTF I think i would be grabbing the scar for its accuracy, reliability, and optics setup. That is the main advantage I see in the scar over the ak is there is plenty of room for a nice eotech or aimpoint and you still have your nice flip up peep sights. Plus you can have your chest rig set up for your scar and other 5.56 STANAG platforms.
  5. Worked on mine over spring break and ended up just sanding/grinding the velcro off after welding the holes shut....It still needs to be sand blasted and Moly coated but I think it will work out well....The new saiga 5.45 with the wood (bulgarian parts kit/ russian wood) and Bulgarian parts kit on a nds in the poly
  6. Thanks swifttal, i will try out the JB weld as well and post my results
  7. Just got my 5.45 last night and sadly also had the velcro laser etched receiver. I sanded down the velcro crap and it took all the sharp edges off and hopefully will be less visible when i moly coat it. I was thinking about filling it with bondo or jb weld or something, What do you guys think? Theres not much left of her now but the bulgarian parts kit should be here tomorrow
  8. Bulgarian Parts on a NoDak Spud, soon to be refinished (norrell Moly coated + russian Laminate) for a SB11 project
  9. Yep, I cut the tack weld off the original barrel nut, welded a section on steel pipe onto the nut (about 5 inches), threaded it back onto the barrel, welded everything on the rifle, and fit the fake can over everything. Took a little bit of time but only cost me 18 bucks
  10. -Polished bolt/carrier -Ace folding mechanism -Magpul CTR -Magpul Miad with ace AR to AK adapter -Custom forend (old chopped AR quad rail) -Custom Barrel Extension( Steel sleeved Air-soft Suppressor) -Hi-viz front sight post -tapco g2 and krebs plate
  11. Saiga .223 conversion done with spare parts laying around -Tapco g2 single hook fcg -Tapco T6 stock and pistol grip -Modified AR-15 quad rail forend -Surefire Mag -Krebs retaining plate
  12. You are right. The logistics of making everything right were just too complicated. I bought a draco pistol and will SBR it this winter for my "Krink" fix. I know it is kind of half ass, but I will do the real deal later in life when I have more money and tools.
  13. Now Im thinking it would be cheapest/easiest/ best to press the krink goodies onto the saiga barrel and cut/crown it. Is this possible?
  14. I hope theres still time to do my statics HW after I'm done with Saiga research :)

Just show off to & constantly talk about your drummed up AK based 12-gauge to your professor....

Maybe he'll be one of those ultra liberals & get nervous & paranoid, then give you a passing grade, out of fear of becoming a statistic! :)
