  1. I finally heard back from the gunsmith, and it turns out that the Springfield 4th Generation steel mount is a bit out-of-spec (it must be made to the specifications of a mil-spec M14, not an M1A made from castings...why Springfield would sell something more suited for a Fulton Armory gun is beyond me). The gunsmith managed to shim it somehow and it is holding a zero now. Hopefully it will stay that way (otherwise I will have to take it to the gunsmith for more work). So, if any of you are actually planning on scoping an M1A, get the Sadlak mount and get it matched to your receiver. St
  2. They still do have 1000 round cases of that stuff for $219 delivered. I have not had any issues using Wolf ammo (I have fired thousands of rounds of it between my SKS's and AK's). It may not be as good of a deal as the Yugoslavian stuff, but it is not corrosive and I will use this ammo if I am too lazy to field strip and clean one of my SKS's or AK's immediately after firing them (when I am lazy, I just clean the bore).
  3. I finally stopped procrastinating and filed my tax returns. I am getting a bit over $1600 back between Federal and State. :)

  4. It is not the best if you try to scope it like I did. I can't wait until my car is paid off. Paying off a SCAR 17 will be a cakewalk in comparison to paying off a brand new car. After the problematic issues I have had with scoping an M1A (I am still waiting to hear from the gunsmith regarding this), I will probably steer clear from higher end M14 variants (Fulton Armory guns, M14 EBR, etc.) and go for the SCAR instead. One of the best things about the M1A are the sights, still the best in the world. I would have just kept it with the iron sights only, like god and mama in
  5. To say that this impresses me would be a understatement of titanic proportions. True story. Hey im in the twin cities so maybe one day we could meet in burnsville or robbinsdale and you could shoot it yourself Sounds interesting. I would have to see what my schedule is like.
  6. Hehe. This is a bit amusing. It is more amusing than an idea I heard somewhere (I cannot remember where) about having a boner when you try to go through this procedure.
  7. Those pre-ban Galil .308 rifles look interesting, but there is no way in hell I am paying $5K+ for one of those. I have also seen those pre-ban Yugoslavian M90's chambered in 7.62X51mm (they seem to go for close to the price of a standard M1A). But the FN SCAR 17 is probably a lot nicer than both of those anyway. It is not the best if you try to scope it like I did. I can't wait until my car is paid off. 8. I am going to build an AR-15, but I have changed my mind and decided to convert my Saiga 5.45 first.
  9. I will see what the gunsmith says about this. I would think that the mount would not be an issue, as it is a newer one (4th Generation) from Springfield Armory (one would think they would make stuff to match their out-of-spec rifles). If it is the mount, I will try to get it refunded and perhaps try to go with Sadlak. Interesting. I never knew that there were rings that did such a thing.
  10. It is mildly amusing for some reason. And I was not expecting to see an Mi-24 SuperHind make an appearance (The Mi-24 is an aging craft, but I FUCKING love those helos).
  11. I have not fired any British Radway Green stuff, but I have heard nothing but good things about it. If I have to detract from German 7.62X51mm for some odd reason, I will go with the British stuff. The stuff is rather hard to find these days.. Which stuff is hard to find these days? The Portuguese or the Radway Green (I think Classic Arms has Radway Green)? The Radway Green. Thanks for the tip Ill check it out The last time I checked, they still have it (I believe it is listed toward the bottom of their website page). You just have to de-link it. I believe
  12. I typically use a hard rifle case for my Springfield M1A (it is scoped) and I use soft rifle cases for my other stuff. I keep my GLOCK's in their black factory cases when transporting them. I also recently got a bigger pistol case from a friend that sold a handgun of his that I can use to carry several pistols (it works just fine for my Nagant revolver and Polish Tokarev, which came in cardboard boxes). I picked up an olive drab military surplus bag at a gun show several years for a mere $5.00. I usually use it to carry targets and earplugs (I should probably just say to hell with tho
  13. Do hippie chicks even bathe? I drive a 2008 Toyota Corolla. It is affordable and efficient (I average around 33-34 MPG with all of the highway driving I do). And it does well with everything until the Winter comes. Then it is a pain getting around in deeper snow.
  14. I remember reading somewhere that even today's non-corrosive ammunition has a shelf life of 30 years if properly stored. If that is true, 7N6 will surely last much longer than that.

  16. I have not tired a whole lot of stuff, but so far, this is my preferred choice for 7.62X51mm surplus ammunition. This stuff feeds flawlessly through my M1A and the price is not too bad compared to other options for this ammunition. I picked up a 200 round battle pack of Portugese 7.62X51mm ammo, but I have not tired it yet. How does this ammo compare to the German stuff? I have used Federal American Eagle .308 ammunition, and it works just fine, but it is rather expensive. I will stick with surplus ammo instead. I have also used Wolf .308, which is not too bad (my M1A digested
  17. Personally, I think one would be better off converting a Saiga .308 if one wants an AK rifle in that caliber. The performance probably would not be much different and one would save a fair deal of money in the process.

  19. I have not purchased a whole lot of ammunition recently, but I have found some good deals at ammoman.com and aimsurplus.com every now and then. Cabela's also occasionally has some good deals on ammo, but you have to keep an eye out for the times they do adjust their prices.
  20. That thing looks really nice! I am sure it is a blast to shoot, but I am not sure if I am ready to go utterly broke just yet. My next .308 rifle will probably be a DPMS LR308. To say that this impresses me would be a understatement of titanic proportions. True story.
  21. So, what are you guys currently reading (besides this thread, smartass )? I am currently reading Einstein: His Life and Universe by Walter Isaacson.
  22. Yes, I have heard the quality of their Golanis is "hit and miss" at best. I do really want to get a Galil someday, but I am not fond of trusting Century when it comes to these things. I am not sure if I will ever have a Galil, as I am not going to fork out $2K+ for a genuine IMI pre-ban Galil. Why does lacquer or polymer coated steel cased ammo only allegedly do this to certain firearms? I have not had any issues with chambers getting gummed up with crap, and I have used quite a bit of this ammo in my AK's, SKS's, GLOCK's, Ruger Mini-14, and Springfield M1A. Sounds like yo
  23. My dsa FAL will hold 1 1/2 -2 moa at 100 yards with match ammo, specifically black hills 168g bthp, and 3-31/2 with surplus. Its scoped with a dsa extreme duty scope mount. AWESOME. The same groups or better as a standard M1A I know the fal is easier to scope than a M1A. I love the M1A but I think the FAL is a better all around weapon. I have not tired a FAL before, but this M1A is proving to be a bit irritating when it comes to scoping the gun (I am using the Springfield Armory 4th Generation steel mount). The low rings work just fine, but the bullets keep striking a bit to the ri
  24. Hm. This is interesting. Let me know how the VZ-2008 works for you. I may be interested in one if it does not have the issues like the other Century guns out there (I do not have a lot of money right now and the price is appealing).
  25. Century should not be an issue as long as one is buying a gun that they imported, not one that they built. Aren't the PSL's they have simply imports manufactured in Romania by Cugir? I have not heard of any problems with Cugir PSL's as long as one uses bullets that do not weigh more than 150 grains. I have heard that PSL's have an issue with rapidly heating barrels (they have "pencil barrels). Is there any truth to this? I have never owned a gun from TGI, but I have heard a lot of bad things about them. Supposedly some of the receivers of their earlier FPK's would not hold up.
