  1. All of these calibers are known to kill (proven by years of military and police use), so I think people should just go with what is most comfortable for them. Currently, I only have 9X19mm when it comes to the three choices in the poll (I have a Gen 3 G17 and I am getting a Gen 4 G19 for concealed carry), but I like the round because it is cheaper and a fair deal of 9mm guns have good magazine capacity). I do plan on getting a 1911 of some sort in the future (I rented one and loved it), so I will eventually have more .45ACP experience.
  2. I have not gotten around to putting the mount on the rifle (I still need to get my hands on some basic tools like a punch), but I would assume that the mount would sit at around the same height as that older third generation mount of yours. I am going to try low rings and see how things work. Unfortunately, what I ordered is out of stock and will take a bit longer to arrive. Ah well, I guess there is no huge hurry, as I still have other things to do in the meantime (get my hands on a Saiga 5.45, pick up my Gen 4 G19 on layaway when my CCW permit shows up, etc.).
  3. One of my parents' cats is an attention whore - he gets annoyed when you stop petting him, and consequently, he goes around and tries to mess around with something until you call his name. He then runs at you, purring while expecting to be pet again.

  4. Schools have been used for such purposes for centuries. The difference is that this school is taking it to absurd new levels. Sure, there are things that are learned, but in themselves, they are secondary to propaganda (and are tied in with propaganda whenever possible). As if things weren't bad enough with No Child Left Behind and thinly veiled privatization schemes with schools (Obama and Arne Duncan are fond of the idea of rewarding "better" schools with additional funding and such). I have worked as a janitor in public schools for over six years, and one can tell that the quality of th
  5. I was looking at a Draco at a gun shop/range, and I basically remarked that the Draco would probably be more useful as an SBR and asked if it were even possible to do it. He basically said that I would need to get a $200.00 tax stamp, so I am sure that it is at least possible. I will keep this stuff in mind. It does not sound too hard (it must be the full-auto Class III stuff that takes a lot of waiting, paperwork, etc.). Hopefully I can get a county sheriff or something to sign off on such a thing. Time will tell, though. If I can't get a signature from the guy for some reason
  6. I would not consider that to be a bad thing, but then again, I am borderline asexual so I am probably rather biased in that respect.
  7. No, they do not have issues with FMJ ammo, they have issues with HP's & SP's.... Haha. I made a bad typo there. I meant to go with the original context of the post and say SP and HP rounds; I have not had any issue with Wolf Military Classic hollow points in any of my SKS's or Brown Bear soft point ammunition (with the exception of one stovepipe jam). Thanks for catching that mistake I made.
  8. There is not too much to my username. I plan on getting a Saiga 5.45 to take advantage of the surplus 7N6 5.45X39mm ammunition and I like wolves.
  9. I haven't really gone toward naming guns on a large scale, but I have recently been calling a Yugoslavian M59/66A1 SKS of mine "Scar" due to the battle scars on the stock an worn bluing, in addition to the fact that I somehow managed to break the gas valve button off by banging it into something (fortunately, I found a cheap replacement from CNC Warrior).
  10. You should contact Greg at CSS. http://store.carolin...ARMS/Categories According to his website, he has some IZ240's in stock. Now that I think of it, I just remember that the guy at the shop quoted me at given price (around $380) and he said I could not be charged more than if one did show up. Well, I don't know how true their words would hold, but even in the best case scenario, I am still probably looking at a delay that could take months, so I should probably just try to get one transferred via FFL. I have never actually done an FFL transfer of any sort, so how would that work?
  11. That is far better than I was expecting from an offhand style of shooting with such a short barreled gun. That does make it seem more interesting. How much trouble is it to get the $200 tax stamp? Is it anything like trying to get a permit for a Class III full-auto or selective firearm, or is it more simplified than that? Where would I go to get the paperwork in the first place if I were to go that route (I don't even know where to start when it comes to that)? I suppose I would have to get one either way if I wanted to give it a try. If the paperwork were too much of a
  12. Oh crap. I was already told I could be waiting for some time for that local shop to get another Saiga 5.45 in stock, as even their distributors are out of stock when it comes to that rifle. Perhaps I should cancel that special order I made and to an FFL transfer as soon as possible from Classic Arms, Centerfire Systems, or Atlantic Arms to get one while I still can without suffering from any kind of price hike. I already purchased a 1080 tin of 7N6 5.45X39mm and several AK-74 magazines in anticipation of getting a Saiga 5.45, so I maybe I really need to get moving on this. I will not settl
  13. I have been seeing Draco AK pistols all over the place and they seem rather popular, but I do not know a whole lot about them. Admittedly, they have piqued my curiosity on the grounds of their appearance alone, but would something like this have a good deal of recoil with such a short barrel? Can they even be used in an accurate manner without turning one into an SBR? I am on the fence with the Draco. Is there anything that would get me off the fence and get me to purchase one someday? I would love to make one of them into an SBR, but I am not sure how much of a hassle all of that BATF
  14. That gun definitely looks interesting. What was used to make that tiger finish? Some sort of paint? Powder coating?
  15. It appears that one has to inspect every WASR-10 individually to make sure there are not any canted sights or anything. The magazines can wobble a bit (Century basically took a Dremel tool and ground out the single stack magazine well so a double stack one would fit), but I have heard they can be pretty reliable. Of course, I was actually driven away from getting a WASR-10 back when I was hearing all kinds of negative things about them. I was looking around in a gun shop in the Spring of 2007 and I saw a bunch of WASR-10's, a few Saigas (in hindsight, I should have jumped on these back then
  16. Agree--few if any military rifles were designed to feed anything but FMJ and people wind up blaming the gun instead of the ammo. Yep, for the most part these rifles only seem to like the FMJ, my suggestion to the OP is to buy a box of each and test each type of round... I Have a Chinese SKS pinned barrel and she will swallow anything I feed her, which is great for me, don't get me wrong she has miss-fed using HP & SP but it was once or twice out of about 200 rounds each..... I would also like to see better pics of the rifle, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that you do get th
  17. I already have enough Soviet bloc weapons and I am trying to get off the beaten path. Sure, a scope on these things is odd (I already know that, as you need a cheek piece just to use a scope), but the existence of the M21 rifle proves that it can work. Not to mention I won't have to deal with the PSL's pencil barrel of Century's out-of-spec M76's this way. And it could be worse. I mean, I am not trying to put a scope on an AK or an SKS. I could probably just remove the cheek piece if it became an issue; some M14 mounts don't seem to be low enough by themselves to interfere wi
  18. I have never thought of painting a gun, but I must admit, that rifle looks great.
  19. I am wondering when my CCW permit will arrive, in addition to when a local shop will have the Saiga 5.45 I ordered in stock.

  20. TheHunterofSkulls and Classy Kalashnikov have hit the nail on the head as far as I am concerned. I happen to be an atheist, but I really don't care if people say "Merry Christmas" or not. It isn't like the holiday is Christian in origin, not to mention that the whole consumer culture bit have watered down any religious aspects of the holiday. In short, I think the holiday is a bit more secular than a fair deal of people seem to realize (If my memory serves me correctly, the Japanese celebrate Christmas, and there aren't too many Christians in Japan). I obviously don't use any religious sym
  21. I am planning on mounting a scope on my Springfield M1A. I settled for a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44mm scope (one inch tube). I am planning on using a steel 4th Generation mount from Springfield Armory, and I have also ordered a cheek piece so I can get a decent cheek weld while using the scope. I am still not sure what to get regarding the rings, though. What height do I want (I am leaning toward high) with this scope and rifle. The Springfield mounts already seem to be fairly high, so I doubt I would need to get any extra high variant of rings. I am leaning toward some one inch Zeiss
  22. It is all about the brass, really. They simply don't want to sort the steel out from the brass; they just want to sell that brass off to some company and get some money for it. I use an indoor range, but they are more reasonable than this - they do allow people to use steel cased ammunition, but they do not allow aluminum cased ammunition (I think Blazer makes it). This enables them to separate the steel from the brass with a magnetic device of some sort. Since they cannot easily sort out the aluminum cased stuff, they do ban this stuff. One of the range officers even told me this himsel
  23. I would like to see a Saiga in 7.62X54R. And it would really make my day if Saiga made this rifle styled after a genuine SVD.
  24. I have never ordered a gun off the internet, so I don't know what the shipping costs tend to be, but I believe that Classic Arms has Saiga rifles (.223, 5.45X39mm, and 7.62X39mm) for $339.95. I would like to get various Saiga rifles, but I am going to start off with a 5.45X39mm one (I just can't pass up on a cheap, quality Russian AK style rifle and cheap 7N6 surplus 5.45X39mm).
