  1. Ok so I came across a KVAR Warsaw length buttstock for Saiga that would be exactly what I am looking for. My question now is can I switch that out myself without moving the trigger group forward or doing any modifications to the gun at all? Do the modifications and moving the trigger group only come into play if adding the pistol grip? (which I do not want) Thanks in advance!!
  2. Hi, I have a factory Saiga 223 and I am perfectly happy with the sporter model and do not have an interest in doing a conversion. I do however wish it had a shorter length of pull. Can the plastic factory buttstock be shortened to about 12 1/2" ? Are there any other shorter buttstocks out there that will work? Again, I am not interested in doing a conversion and I do not need anything to be "tactical", I am perfectly happy with the sporter configuration, I just want a shorter LOP so it will be a little more compact and and quicker to the shoulder. Anyone have any suggestions?
  3. I do not have a Saiga yet but when I get one (or three) it will remain in stock formation. I may get a trigger job and the peep sights look like they would be handy but other than that it would stay in a sprter config. I have no interest in high-caps or pistol grips or any of that stuff. In fact since I am in a state that requires autos have mags of 5 rds or less I would actuall get low cap mags.
  4. I was looking through the Tromix sight and really liked the idea of the HK sights, my old eyes aren't so good with open sights anymore. My question though is how they actually work in the real world being mounted on the receiver cover. It seems like there would be quite a bit of motion and some shifting of POI. Does anyone have these and can comment on how they actually work?
  5. There is an factory 5 round magazine for the 762 X 39. The part number is IZ-156 and they are available. RAAC has them in stock for their distributors. There is also a 2 factory 2 round magazine for the Saiga-20 gauge, IZ-217. And a 2 round magazine in a 5 round body for the Saiga-12, IZ-216. These are all from the factory. Thank you, that is exactly what I was needing to know. I knew I came to the right place.
  6. I know that people usually want to add bigger mags but I am curious if there are any 5 rd magazines for the Saiga out there. I live in a state where semi's can be used for hunting but must have mags of only 5 or less. Also I would like a magazine that is more flush to the bottom of the gun. Does anyone know if there is such a creature out there?
  7. A month or so back I posted a question comparing the Ruger Ranch Rifle to a Saiga 223 and figured in the interest of thoroughness I should do the same with the Mini-30 and the Saiga 7.62. And since the SKS shares some qualities I'll throw that in too. How would you all compare the Mini-30 against the Saiga in terms of reliability, ruggedness and accuracy? Price is a slam dunk at the moment for the Saiga but it seems to be going up as well along with everything else. Have any of you had both the Saiga 7.62 and a Mini-30 and how would compare and contrast the two? The uses would b
  8. What research I have done reveals that the S-223 does not have bad accuracy for an AK platform but I am curious if there are any mods that can be done to squeeze out some more working accuracy. I realize it is not a benchrester and not a 400 yd prairie dog gun but if there is something that can be done why not try it? If I could zap some crows and groundhogs out to 200 I would be happy.
  9. Is there anyone here that can make a side by side comparison of a S-223 vs a mini -14 (or excuse me, Ranch Rifle) in terms of utility, reliability and accuracy? I am in the market for 223 auto and not all that interested in an AR but wondered if a Saiga would be a better buy that a Ranch Rifle. Does anyone has experience with both that can compare and contrast the two?
  10. Thanks onepoint, that is exactly the first person real life data I am in search of. As I stated this would not be a long range prairie dog gun but a predator calling and maybe a 200yd ground hog and 150 yd crow gun. I'm looking for a rugged truck gun that will stand up to bitter cold and snow as well some hard use plinking and while I am a good cleaner there are always times of neglect during the season. I would like a semi-auto but I've heard mini 14s pattern more like a shotgun and while I like AR 15s I don't like their price tag that much. Would you say the Saiga 223 might be a good m
  11. Rangerruck, was that scoped or with iron sights? Also I am not familiar enough with molycoating to what effect that should have. Can you explain that a little (readers digest version and with small words please) and do you know of anyone that has done that with a Saiga and what the before and after results were?
  12. The argument of 223 for coyotes will go on forever in and of itself I am sure. I have no question a 22-250 or 243 and above will anchor longer range coyotes better than a 223. Truth is there are a lot of guys taking coyotes year round with 223s whether it is the best round for the job or not. When I was in the military we were told the effective range of the M-16 was 460yds. The assumption there was that that was on a human target that was also shooting at you. If a 223 will stop a human it is a good guess it will work on unarmed coyotes. Again an argument can be made about dropping it
  13. I realize the Saigas were never designed or intended to be 400yd prairie dog or ground squirrel guns but would the 16" 223 be accurate enough as a predator calling rifle (coyote at 200yds) or a 150-200yd groundhog gun. The best coyote calling season here (Iowa) is the dead of winter and an AK platform should should be rugged and reliable enough for the cold and snow but I do have concerns about accuracy. A lot of guys are going to ARs but the price tag of Saigas is a lot more palatable. Any info or insight would be much appreciated.
