  1. Illegal is a relative concept when it comes to firearms anyway (that pesky 2nd amendment and all). What I am guessing this guy wanted was how to convert the mag well, if you just ask "how can I mod my rifle to take 30 rounders" you will get piles of 922R BS when you already knew what needed to be changed to be legal. All you wanted to know was how to change the mag well.
  2. AKMIKEFMJ What stock and pistol grip do you have? That is the setup I want to put together when I get mine.
  3. Its not steel core, take a propane torch or a good lighter and melt the lead out of a bullet (take the bullet out of the case first). You will see that the core is lead, the jacket has something like 49% steel or less in it (as required by fed law). I have a few hollow jackets around from bullets I melted down, the steel is soft as it is bi-metal (mixed). The steel mix jacket is coated with copper to protect the barrel.
  4. I am looking at having a saiga-12 that I will be buying altered. Basically: Adjustable choke tube (poly choke) mounted permanently. Pistol grip conversion that will still look "sporting" (I want the center of gravity more in the middle) Around a 19 inch barrel with the poly choke mounted. And some form of iron sights I think I can handle the FCG and pistol grip stock. But I don't think I can thread the barrel for the poly choke.
  5. The Wally world Winchester bulk pack ammo is kinda crappy, I even had a blank (no shot just the wad). I stick to federal shells for my pump gun.
  6. Is I am reading it correctly you will have replaced 4 parts. So you "should" be ok.
  7. If you posted a link it does not seem to work (all I see is text). The M37 is not the featherweight. How do they carry stock? and how do they carry set up like an AK? I will be carrying it around the woods for about 4-5 hours a day during small game season. Also will it eat target loads, thats all we use for small game and I hate to have yet another odd box of ammo.
  8. I am looking to buy a Saiga 12 in the near future. I plan to use it for small game hunting and maybe duck, I would like to know how long the shotgun is with the 24 inch barrel and with the 19 inch barrel. I would also like to know how it compares in weight to a Ithica m37 or Rem 870 with 28 inch barrels. Also are all the pictures of peoples saigas with the 8 round mags or the five round?
  9. I understand that the tiger (how ever they mis-spelled it) is banned from import (92' ban names the rifle). But could a siaga rifle be made in 7.62x54r (almost the same size as .308) and imported? And if it was would you buy one?
  10. True....... Not really right, it sets people up for trouble that they have little knowledge of.
  11. You sure its the same guy? I know of a good number of people with the same names. If I was on the run ebay feedback would not be very high on my "to do" list.
  12. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?item=50631568 They don't say anything about needing new parts. So either they have done something already or they are selling you something that you can not readily use...... Right?
  13. I to have turned back and said "Well I'm kinda tired now.... I think I am going to go home"(forest gump) To a few sports and hobbys. Have fun with your next one.
  14. It makes a fine hunting round. Like a shotgun don't plan on winning shooting competitions, but inside of 100 yards you should have a dead deer if you do your part. I know many people that claim to get deer with a SKS every year, yet their neighbor can not get one with a 1000.00 rifle and 10.00 each for bullets. If you are shooting while jumping all over what the heck is the point of buying anything more than a bb gun? If you aim you should be more than able to whack a deer inside 100 yards every time
  15. It's not the guns fault that they don't know how to shoot. Half the shots in the first half seem to hit the ground or the sky.
  16. Has anyone heard of the new batch coming in yet? And why is it that I never see any 21 inch barrels?
  17. An 8inch barreled automatic shotgun!!! That has got to be one of the coolest (although somewhat useless) item I have ever seen. Man I wish I could buy one (darn its not 1980).
  18. It would be nice to know because I want to use the gun mostly stock but I can make the parts much better for free. I would buy new parts but I am only making a new stock (its not a PG either), but I would like to get something more for my time. If 40+ hours of work cleaning and reworking them a bit would also get me the ability to do what I want with my rifle that would be great.
  19. What about blanks? I love all the double standards that uncle sam loves to impose on his subjects. You can be fined for manufacturing yet its not manufacturing!
  20. What I want to know is at what point if any can a part be rebuilt through a process of re-machining. The point I want to come to is that if I take a lump of metal removed from the ground in china and turn it into a part that is fine, if I make the part from a piece of bar stock from china it is still ok. But what if I take the OEM part and put 10+ hours of work into it to make it work better, at what point can I say the part is no longer of the shelf or made in another country? I am not talking about rubbing a bit of steel wool on it, I am saying to lock it into a CNC machine and re-cut t
  21. Well thats good to know. I think you have answered all of my questions. Now on to finding a gun and buying it. I don't think I will be doing any converting on mine as I like the looks and feel of the plain Saiga. If you can fill it with sand and still fire it, then I should never have a problem.
  22. From what I read the Saiga .223 seems to be a fair/good rifle. All I need is about a three inch group at around 50 yards, so a 16 inch barrel should do fine. My only issuse with the rifle is that the action is rather open, I can see getting crap (sticks leaves) into it. Does this cause any problems? Also I see that the rifle comes with a 10rd mag, is there a place that sells 3-5 round mags? As far as the whole gun show deal went, the line "I would'nt trust them with a potato gun" comes to mind. To be fair half the people there were OK. But the other half made me want to duck for cove
  23. Oh boy what a week I have had... I went to every gun shop and now the only gun show inside of driving distance. The gun show was a joke, I have never seen so many people that broke EVERY gun safety rule ever made. The display tables were a danger in themselves, they had live(un-loaded) rifles with no locks or any other safety sitting open, and as a little decorative touch they had dumped live shells in between the rifles. WHY? More than once I had a rifle dry fired at my head. When I ask the "person" why they did something that stupid they responded with "It's not loaded" proceeding t
  24. I am going to go to the shop first. I don't like getting ripped off, so I want to know who the guy is at least. When do you think you will get them in?
