I'm a little unclear about the .020 material being removed? Rear trunion, no problem. Cutting a slot in the receiver, again no problem. I have done it to a WASR for the full auto selector, wich I have two extra by the way. Is the Galil grip nut bigger? This is my WASR Armor: The .020 to be removed from the Galil selector is because the S-12 has a 1.5mm thick receiver making it approximately .040 wider (.020 on each side) than a Galil. I actually filed the back side of the Galil selector until it fit. I don't think the Galil grip nut is larger than an AK. That should be t

where can i find that top cover? LEO, Could you post some pics and info on how you did your inverted safety mod? I didn't completely understand your explanation of the milling process. I do know about the hole on the left side of the receiver though. I've done that mod already. I have installed a full auto version on my WASR, but really don't like the safety in reverse. Red Jacket is installing a inverted safety on rifle they are making for me and I want my S12 to match it. I'm very courious on how you achieved this because the receiver is wider on the S12. any help will be greatly app
  3. All that and I didn't answer your questions. Yes the S-12 gas tube is unique at the back end. If you wanted to do a user installed conversion you could do a rear sight base with a tiged or brazed on shim on the right and then drill and tap the S-12 trunnion to hold it on the gun. I think you could place a screw in the top of the rear sight base under the rear sight from top to bottom. You wouldn't be able to drill deep into the trunnion, but no matter how deep a screw with only 3 threads engaged will give maximum strength. An AMD 65 gas tube should work if it was opened up and shortened proper
  4. Well it really isn't that difficult of a conversion. There are a couple of points though. The barrel in a S-12 is not in the middle of the receiver. it is offset to the left somewhere between .020 and .030 take a caliper out and you'll see what I'm talking about. I cut the barrel band from the rear sight base and silver brazed it in place on the trunnion with a shim on the right to center it over the bore. I'm not sure what Cobra was cutting and gluing when he did his, but on my gas tube I simply drove a mandrel in cold to push out the flutes and then shortened it. The bottom of the rear end o
  5. I did this one a couple of years ago. The gas tube is removable.
  6. california. our mags have to be detached by using a tool. semi-automatic and pistol grip is a no go otherwise. Perhaps you could just weld a small screwdriver to your cut down mag release... we've gotta play the game to even have an s12 out here. to revise my prior statement: otherwise semi auto shotgun w/ detachable mag is not allowed. the "tool" cannot be permanently attached. Your work is outstanding. Evidently you are very handy therefore you need to do your mag release to accept a tool that you can attach to your thumb something like a banjo pick.
  7. Thanks Gunfixer: Duh I should have thought of that. I'll probably mill the ports with a 1/16" ball end mill then open them up with a reamer. in the past this has produced no burs on the inside of the barrel. I have to draw it up on CAD, but in a circular pattern with a port in the middle I may be able to get 6 ports. I'll have to do the math to see which gives me more gas flow. I figure I can open the gas block up to give me more room for a bunch of ports. I read the sticky again and noticed that when Tony shortens the bolt carrier to piston extension he is setting the piston on the reg
  8. Bob: Thanks so much for the sticky. I've been checking back and looking for a response to this thread thinking I wasn't going to get any useful information. Now I see that you spent a lot of time researching this. From what Tony has said I think I'll set back the required 1.75 for a Krinkov and leave the barrel 10". I'll port with 5 ports drilled in the .075 to .100 range starting small and then working up. I'll thread the barrel for Remchokes and then put a fake beer can Krinkov style flash hider around the barrel. That and the choke tube will cover the old ports. What I still have a q
  9. Hey Guys: I just picked up another Saiga and I have decided to do a Krinkov. I will have no problem with anything, as I've done a few Saigas and one with an AK rear sight and gas tube. The problem will be the gas system. after some rough measurements it appears that the gas block will set back approximately 1.75". I'd like to cut the barrel without welding, which will leave approximately 1.25" of barrel ahead of the gas block. If done this way the barrel length will be about 8.5". I don't think that a barrel will work this short and I'll probably have to weld up the gas ports and leave
  10. The top gun in your photos is mine The Galil. It isn't bolt on I removed the gas block machined the forend lug off, drilled and tapped 2 new holes in it. The rail holds the forend retainer. It could be done as a bolt on to retain a modified AK forend but I didn't do it that way. The AK forend has to be modified anyway. I wanted the light as close to the barrel as possible. I'm surprised Dinzag hasn't started making these yet. The problem may be that you have to machine the forend retainer to slide on from the bottom. Then put a block on the bottom of the barrel to keep the forend from sliding

  12. Tony: Why don't you try to re barrel in .450 Marlin. It should fit in the the factory mag and since it is belted it shouldn't give near the feading problems that the .450 does. Just a thought. Richard
  13. Mike: Let me rephrase that. I'd sure like to see a photo of one of the magazines that you modified out of the gun. I'd be real curious to see the front lip of the mag and the rear screw area of the 10 rounder. Thanks, LEO
