  1. Cheapest 922 compliance is fire control group ($45 and counts as three parts),(US made magazine ($35ish and counts as three parts), pistol grip ($20ish), US made puck ($20 from CSS), and a US made muzzle device (cost depends on what you choose). So for about $125 you can ensure full compliance and allow for the tack weld to be removed with no worries. Other parts do exist, like the Chaos quad rail, that can add compliant parts if you want a quad rail. if not the above is the cheapest and simplest list of options.
  2. That is a damn good deal. Second find in two days i wish i could get in on, but the wife has put the stop on my spending completely.
  3. Poly lowers work just fine as long as you never dry fire it with the upper off. Their only real weak point is the hammer strikes the magwell area and can cause cracking, but honestly you are better off speding a few bucks more and getting metal. There are less known manufacturers of lowers out there and companies who do not overcharge for their parts and aluminum is still superior to plastic. Surplus arms and ammo is one example (well they were prior to the buying craze). Buying a stripped lower and screaming obsenoties at the detent springs as they fling across the room is half the fun after
  4. I just spent my entire gun money forthe rest of the year on a KSG and now these popped up. I menioned it to the wife and she didnt even bother saying no, just gave me "the look".
  5. Thr break on the middle row, right side, is called the carlson comp demon break. I have used it on a VEPR and was very surprised and impressed woth it. Gave noticiable recoil reduction out the side vents. I would encourage trying it. The rear right side, the phoenix flame break looks more aggressive but did not equate the capability of the demon break. The front and rear left are more of the flash hider variety than muzzle breaks. Good luck and enjoy the ride with the new S12. It can break the bank if you arent careful :-)
  6. Joe bob outfitters has punisher, spider, and zombie cosmetic blem lowers for $85 which is a hell of a deal. Passing it on if anyone is interested.
  7. I passed my first firearm given to me to my son (almost 11) last year when he got straight A's all year. Obviously he only shoots it or even has access when I am present, but we did extensive safety and educational talks prior to his first range trip. I wondered how well my teaching stuck in his head until this past summer when my nephew, who is 8, came to visit for the summer. He lives with a single mom and had never seen a real gun. He asked to see what they looked like, and I obliged, While I was getting a couple for him to look at I overheard my son giving him the same safety speech th
  8. The Ruger American bolt rifles are around your price point, (seen them jn the low to mid $300's range) and have many caliber options including .308 which is the standard in long range shooting, and ammo is not nearly as expensive and is much more readily available than 300 win mag. They have gotten good reviews. For a decent bolt gun in .308 for under $400 is a pretty sweet deal.
  9. Remember that a US mag is three parts, meaning you could just swap out the FCG ($40-$50) and be compliant, but if it is for home defense, the factory five rounder gives you six rounds (5+1 in chamber) of 12 gauge to use against any intruder. Thats more than enough as you save for a few cheap compliance parts or make it how you want.
  10. The law says force must be reasonable, necessary, and non aggressive. For the use of deadly force you have to be protecting your life from (the possibility of) great bodily harm or death, another person from the same, or preventing the commission of a forcible felony. Use your 5th amendment and do not make any statement to anyone without legal counsel present. Assuming you are not in trouble because it was justified hinges on what and how you explain the force. Concealed to carry classes give just enough info for someone to get in trouble with and should be much more in depth as far as the law
  11. The price tag on the gaudy jokes is fhe worst part. There are converted guns, and then there are "converted" guns. On websites there are "converted" saiga rifles that they left in the sported configuration, but added the tapco plastic stock with integrated grip onto it and want $1500 for it. If you go with a reputable company, like Kvar, the product will be superior and usually more fiscally sound. I did forget to mention ar15.com in the equipment exchange section has a shotgun section with good deals from private parties from time to time. Have seen inconverted go between 5-600 from
  12. The federal assault on the 2A is now at the international level with the attempting to backdoor the NATO small arms treaty. As long as the south, southwest, and midwest exist a ratification to the second will not happen. The new hope it to try and push the NATO agenda and then expand from there. It would begin with importation restrictions, then expand to registration, confiscation, and ultimately disarmament is the concern of those on the far right side of things. Depending on the administration I could see a least federal registration, but not called registration (because there is federal r
  13. K-var has a product called thr SLG12-08 for $889 (out of stock now, but you can call and see when the next batch will arrive) which is a better deal than a bone stock saiga for $700. As far as price goes, it is a crap shoot on what will happen. They may come down some more as the panic buying stops, unless something else happens to create another. If you have the cash handy i would keep an eye out on gunbroker.com, gunsamerica.com, armslist (local to you only), and any other local websites where people sell firearms and wait for someone in need to see for a good deal. Plus, if you do
  14. IS IT US MADE????? My Chaos quad rail needs one of those mounted on each side (balance and all). If they do not already have picatinny rails on them can you make sure mine do so that I can mount stuff to them also :-) I may have to develop a grip core that holds spare gas in case my chainsaws run out.
  15. Seems it would be smarter to store them at your fathers residence until after the SAFE act is upheld or repealed. If upheld, taking it to a gunsmith in your local and having it "permanently" modified to "bolt action" (should qualify for that if you have to rack the bolt before every round, regardless of the actual motion of the bolt). This removed any intent to own an illegal firearm should you ever be challenged on it. An at home "hack job" (itrespective of actual work quality) would hold much less weight in court than a professional modification would. Plus federal law has already allowed a
  16. Just arrived in the mail so this will not have measurements and technical stuff, but I will give you my impressions. As with all Magpul items it feels and looks well made. It is an ambi grip with recesses at the top on both sides for thumb placement and is very comfortable in my hand (med to large size). If you have very large hands (like XXL or bigger) it may not be as comfortable to you. Has very aggressive "bumps" on both sides and serrations on the rear for positive grip. With or without gloves it feels like it would add quite a bit of grip. It is hollow to allow for use of all Magpul
  17. I like my porkypine. I served my time in the Army and as a cop and had service weapons, now I like all my guns to look cool. At 5'11" and 235 lbs. weight is not really a huge concern for me. If I have to worry how heavy a gun is I can just start unscrewing thing cause shit got really real :-) Until then I will stick with tacticool. Alos, if it were not for people like me to have stupid cool looking guns what would mad max carry into thunderdome?
  18. The Hogue is not always a perfect fit on any gun. Even with Saiga's it requires some filing from time to time depending on the gun, but it is considered a drop in replacement. Any modification that would be needed would be where the grip meets the trigger guard area. The hogue is probably the most comfortable grip i have ever handled and does well with recoil absorption.
  19. I have fhe M4 socom and it is a beast. The hammer makes it look soft and squishy. It is pricy, but stupid strong and rock solid.
  20. Take a magpul rail section and mount it to the factory handguard and roll with that. A hollow AR tube with a VLTOR in my mind should not be heavier than the factory crap butstock. Plus the beneficial purpose ot serves would far outweigh an ounce or two in weight. If all you plan to replace is a tri rail and stock i would not imagine the weight you will save will equate to much. Possibly getting rid of the flash light and adding night sights for low ligt shooting would save several ounces. If not that then replacing a heavier light with a pistol rail light would still save several ounces b
  21. Had a similar story. My mom called me because she was having issues with a pistol "not working" right. I went to her house and she hands it to me, i dripped the magazine (was empty), and rack the slide to the rear and no shell ejected, so it was empty. Was in the middle of speakin with her about what was going on and did not vusually inspect the chamber. I went and sat on her porch to try to get it to cycle. I was planning to remove the slide, but it is one of those funky designs where you have to drop the hammer first. Pointed down range into the woods (safety first and all), and basical
  22. I am left eye dominant and right handed (exactly the situation you describe) also. It will become more natural over time for you. It was insisted that i learn to shoor with my right eye because i am right handed, and i did for a long time with good results. When, as an adult, i began using my left eye to shoot with my skill went from good to excellent once i overcame the awkwardness of learning something new.
  23. I figured i would give it a shot. Meets 922 reqirements and it was cheap enough ($16) that if i do not like it i did not go broke. Using the grip cores is the positive i like the most. A CR123 core lets me keep spare flashlight batteries airtight and waterproof, and more importantly not adding weight to my aready super heavy front end. Between the Chaos quad, warthog, porkypine, and flashlight, i would rather put batteries elsewhere.
  24. I worried that this was the case. Thank you for the reply.
  25. When previously discussed, you essentially said it had to make financial sense for you to pursue metal mags for the VEPR 12. Having launched the VEPR quad rail, and seeing how sales have progressed for that, has that possibly encouraged or discouraged the pursuit of mags?
