  1. Woohoo! :D - OK you guys that get yours - we need pics and range reports pronto! Great news!
  2. Nuff said - I can't wait! :D :D
  3. So that's what I've been doing - spending tactically
  4. I'm not a big fan of the ultimak - heard way too many problems with them. They do look cool though. Have you considered a Kobra site? Is pretty well reported - I shot a Vepr with one recently - liked it. Probably the best side-rail option for the AK.
  5. Yes of course - just go to FBMG's site and check it out - you just need to pay a higher amount. The pre-order was a trade-off of sorts - we that participated helped to fund the front-end development and investment and in return, got a really nice discount. Fair trade IMHO. Especially now that they are almost ready to ship :D :D
  6. 922r - that's right, technically the imported parts count would be too high on a stock S308. But of course, the sky will not fall if you shoot it that way. Man, I can't wait to get my S308 to the range with the 20 rounders - a perfect shtf rifle if I ever saw one. I ordered 3 on the deal, but I'm going to get some more - ideally, a guy (or gal ) should have 7 mags for his rifle IMHO - one in the mag well and 6 in his web gear.
  7. As stated already, the accuracy of the round depends mostly on the launching pad - the 7.62x39 is a very accurate round and is the parent case for the 22PPC, 6mm PPC, etc. - bench rest rounds. I have proven this for myself with my CZ carbine that is chambered for 7.62x39 - shoots 1.5" groups at 100 yards with white box winchester ammo - handloads do better at 1" and I bet I could beat that with a better scope and more time on the reloading bench. The 7.62x39 penetrates better than the 5.56 through media such as cinder block but 7.62x51 outclasses this by a wide margin.
  8. Excellent review and thanks for the vids! Now, the only problem in that I wish I'd ordered more on the deal
  9. Yes, anybody bitching should first consider the competition's 20 round magazines.... that's right, there aren't any
  10. Use Burris or other windage adjustable rings - that will take care of the side to side. As to the elevation, yes shim the back of the base where it attaches. Aluminum can material is a great shim material - easy to cut and shape as needed.
  11. That's what I'd recommend for the .308 as well - try http://www.freedomoptics.com
  12. welcome aboard! And clips are what you use to load mags - as in stripper clips. So you can use the term clip, just use it properly to avoid the word nazis. Oh, and you will find that the 16" version has it's merits - is very handy and a real hoot to shoot.
  13. IMHO, the underfolders are made for carry and to look at. They aren't very comfortable or funcitonal during shooting. I would stick with the Russian style side folder myself. I've been toying with the idea of making one with Romanian side folder and front pistol-grip handguards = just for shits and grins.
  14. Put me on that list too!
  15. so, when (conservatively) do you expect to ship the pre orders? That is, when are the followers and base plates due - or is that the question?
  16. Oh - sorry, I thought you were asking how to remove the rear trunion. I do not have an ACE stock and haven't installed one. It sounded like it replaced the rear trunion to mount which wouldn't be that unusual. Anyway, you obviously figured it all out - nice lookin S308 !
  17. I've got the 16" and had a 22". The carbine is louder and shoots about the same in terms of accuracy - but the sight radius is shorter of course. I do not find the carbine hard to handle or too loud either. It is very handy and fun to shoot. I would get a carbine if I were you - then you have both.
  18. Top knob is elevation and right knob is windage. Just look through the scope and watch the reticle while you adjust and that will tell you which way causes the group to rise and which way to fall, move left, right. Remember, if the reticle drops, that moves the group up (you raise the rifle to compensate - see?). Once you have it zero'ed, carefully loosen the two little screws on the top of the knobs and rotate the top to the "1" position for the top (assuming a 100 meter zero) and to the "0" postition on windage and then tighten the screws back down. That's it. As to the inabil
  19. These are screwed into the bolt carrier and held in place with a press pin. You need to press the pin out, unscrew the piston, replace with the new one, drill a hole in the base of the new piston and push the pin back in. I would have to measure the piston on mine to determine - measure yours and add a half inch for the threaded base.
  20. you are correct - the rear trunion is attached to the receiver via rivets and to remove it, you will need to first remove the stock of course and then grind the rivet heads and punch them out. I can't remember if they used two through rivets or four short ones - if its two of the through, then you only need to grind one side and then punch it through the trunion and out the other side. If its four shorties, then grind them on the inside and punch them out to avoid any possibility of marking the reciever.
  21. Well, I was replying to another thread and it ended up here - go figure.... so please ignore this.
  22. Vermiform, I think you answered your own question when you said that you couldn't really aford the m1a1. But hey, the S308 is a great rifle regardless of cost. Especially if you intend to do the pg conversion and now that the 20 round mags are (almost) available. The pg conversion with the Red Star fcg gives you a great trigger and you can choose from several available stocks to suit your taste - carbine or sniper type. I have the 16" carbine and it shoots 2-3" at 100 yards with milsurp Hertberger ammo and the iron sights. That makes it capable of hitting a 20" circle out to 500 yar
  23. Yeah, and don't use it for serious social work or count on it for a big hunting trip! I prefer to spend a little more and get at least decent quality. I do understand not being made of money though and if it's all you can afford, then by all means give the cheapy one a try and leave the irons for the serious stuff.
  24. Yeah, I know, the point is that I'll be very happy to have em just like they are right now - only in my hands! And if we're going to ask for anything, lets ask for a follow-up deal for the people that pre-ordered. I just went and looked at the starting post with the pics again (nicely done BTW) - man, I can't wait
