  1. So can you use a quad rail without a front vertical grip? I really don't want a vertical grip, but I like the way the quad rails look. I may have to get the CHAOS one for my second build.
  2. Anyone a GS in MN, or know of a GS in MN that has any type of experience with a Saiga?
  3. Some? I can't imagine not adding Dinzag's Gas Block mod for the upper hand guard, lower hand guard retainer, front elevated sight, AK muzzle break, new trigger group, new stock set, misc internals like a shepherd's crook and modified safety lever so it all goes back together right, and a complete refinish of the entire rifle. Essentially keep the receiver and the barrel and start over. Don't get me wrong, it is fun, it is just $600-800 of addons to get an AK. Hell, I would convert 10 of em in different ways if I had the money, but it is extensive.
  4. Amen. See that is how I feel. All my old C&R rifles use the damned things. My RPK and PSL have em. The AK I am getting has em. Why use something else that isn't telescopic? I got an email back from Dinzag today: >We're currently developing a shotgun rear sight block/gas tube that we can sell right off the shelf. No need for the customer to send us their tube or even press the gas block on the shotgun. This design will also be cheaper than the current way it is done. We're looking at 6-8 weeks to be in production. >The current design I mill 1/2 of the rear t
  5. You know that CSS has modular ends, so that you can buy one and swap the ends back and forth based on your mood? http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-574/POLY-dsh-CHOKE-BREACHER-SAIGA-12/Detail?sfs=5db8a702 http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-795/POLY-dsh-CHOKE-FLASH-HIDER-SAIGA/Detail?sfs=5db8a702 http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-576/POLY-dsh-CHOKE-SAIGA-12-VENTED/Detail?sfs=5db8a702
  6. Easy! I saw it last month, and I went crazy till I found an unconverted one at a good price. Now it is in pieces waiting on parts.
  7. I really like my Saiga, but if you are going to go 7.62x39, go with a real AK. The awesome thing about the Saigas is that you can have an AK pattern rifle in 223, 308. 410, 20 etc. They are very customizable, but the problem is that they need customization out of the factory. So if you want a second, get a wierd caliber like 223 and convert the thing. JMO
  8. I called a local office for IonBond, but they only do the coating on guns out of an office in North Carolina. :-( North Carolina: Ionbond US - Greensboro 7856 McCloud Road Greensboro, USA NC 27409 Tel. +1 336 665 0005 Fax +1 336 665 0035 Email: infous@ionbond.com I saw some posts on another forum about it. Supposedly it has a hardness rating of 50-60. It is much tougher and more durable than any other coating out there. It is so smooth that you can run your gun without oil, and when you run it with this stuff it is amazingly slick. Since my Saiga 12 is in parts at the moment,
  9. That is exactly the plan. I hope Dinzag gets back to me before I start feeling froggy and jump on this project. If he would sell be a block that I can modify easier, that would be awesome. We'll see.
  10. gonna look at it tonight with the gun in front of me. I'll probably pick up a block soon and set em side by side to see exactly what I need to do, and probably make a huge mess in the living room trying to get the damn thing to fit the way I want it to. Then I will buy another block and hopefully not screw that one up. :-) If I can make it work the way that I want it to, I will post about it with pics.
  11. Seen em on auction sites in the neighborhood of 700-750. I managed to get mine for 500 + tax + shipping. I pulled up gun shops in my state on the net and started calling and sending emails. Within a hour I found one that had an S-12 in stock for $500. I couldn't get my CC out fast enough.
  12. Ohh! That is a nice pic. I was looking for something like that last night. I must have just looked at sites that sell them, not google images. Duh! I am thinking that removing the bands that go around the barrel, and some cutting of the bottom cross bar might just get me most of the way there... A little shaping and a couple spot welds later... I am not worried about the upper hand guard at all. I plan on getting the lower wood hand guard with the vents and call it a day for now. It looks much like this: http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-677/Saiga-12-20-OEM/
  13. Exactly what I am trying to get at. I have never seen the bottom of an AK rear sight block. I assume they must be rounded to some degree, but I was wondering if anyone had tried to fit one to a Saiga 12. I assume some careful shaping of the bottom of the block should be all that is necessary, or am I missing something?
  14. Would gas block removal really be necessary? All I am proposing is welding a sight block on to the top of the gun, which is already exposed. Why would I need to disassemble the gas block?
  15. I will never use my SG for more than point and shoot. I don't need long range accuracy, so I am thinking about a reflex scope, if even that. Why do I want a 300m sight? Dunno, I like em. They look cool. I want my Saiga to be very AK like when I finish it. I have seen Dinzag's site, and I saw the gas tube conversion he does. It ONLY costs $300! I don't doubt the amount of time involved or the quality of the work he does. Therefore the cost is completely justified, but that is too much for me just to add a top hand guard. Especially when you add in the Gunsmith cost to remove and re
