  1. Welcome, from another NYer.

  2. Here is mine, so far. I live in NY, so I'm not sure if I'll end up converting it or not.
  3. Mine is a new three porter and works fine with all ammo, even the Winchester bulk pack, on setting two of the factory plug. I haven't gotten around to polishing the bolt yet. I've got about three hundred rounds through it now and have had 2 FTF's and no FTE's on setting two.
  4. Realistically what you could carry depends on your own conditioning. In Iraq I was carrying 13 mags with 28 rounds of 5.56 in each. That was along with an IBAS, SAPI plates, helmet, radio, frags, stun grenades, Camelbak, M4 with PAQ2, M68, and Surefire. I easily had over 100 pounds of gear, and it will definitely take its toll on you. If I had to pick one weapon, it would be my AR15. Load up with hollowpoints and you're good up close and out to 500m. It's a personal preference, but its a lot more flexible than a shotgun.
  5. shh!! thats sensible talk, not allowed in the empire state . Also our permits are no good as soon as we cross the Tappan Zee bridge but a NYC permit is good for the whole state. Crazy? IMO just a double standard. I wish we could just break away from NYC and make a new New York. They ruin everything for us!
  6. I'm mainly used to domestic weapons like my AR-15, but I got a Saiga 12 a while ago and have been enjoying it. I'd like to pick up an AK47 for my collection, mainly just for plinking. There's not many gun stores around my area, a few minutes west of Syracuse, NY, that stock fun guns. All I have been able to find is a Saiga 7.62x39 for $399 and a WASR for $499. I like the idea of the Saiga, but I don't know if it's worth it, because I'll probably have to put $200+ to convert it and add new furniture. What would you recommend? Any good local dealers in CNY? Prefer not to do any ordering of stuff
  7. I'm saying they might as well sell handguns as easily as they do rifles or shotguns. It's dumb to make it harder to buy something with maybe a tenth the firepower of a rifle. Anybody who knows about weapons, knows a pistol is a last resort. NY state is just crazy about the handgun rules. I have no problem with anyone buying any type of weapon available, as long as they pass a background check.
  8. I think it's ridiculous how hard they make it to get a pistol here in NY, but any 18 year old thug can walk into a Walmart and pickup a shotgun or rifle with 10x the firepower of a handgun.
  9. I like the stockpile. I am still like a kid in a candy store, buying pretty much every good deal on ammo to try out in my Saiga whenever I'm in Walmart or a sporting goods store.
  10. I almost think it could use a little more weight. The stock buttstock feels pretty light and flimsy.
  11. I'll think about modding it after I put a few hundred more rounds through it. I'm glad it functioned well for the first 50 rounds, with just one FTF and no FTE's. I fixed the BHO and hopefully I can get out and shoot some more rounds through it soon. I'm thinking about purchasing the stock below when I get around to modding it. It's made in the USA, but I'm not sure how NY friendly it is.
  12. First range report: cycled everything I threw at it fine. I did about 10 Winchester slugs on gas setting one. 20 Federal low-brass #8 shot, and 20 Winchester low-brass #6 shot on gas setting two. Only had one FTF and no FTE's. I was using the stock 5 round mag and Surefire 10 round mags. I haven't done any mods to it yet, just hand cycled the action a little bit and put some CLP on it. I checked out the gas holes, and it does have three and all look clear. That was the good news, the bad news is the BHO got stuck inside my gun when I went to load another magazine. I didn't have any tools
  13. I just picked up my 19" at Herb Phillipson's in CNY for $599.00. They have a couple 24" ones too.
  14. Ever since I heard about the Saiga 12, about five years ago, I knew I had to have one. I saw one at the local dealer the other day and finally decided to pull the trigger. I probably won't convert it, because unfortunately I live in NY. I can't wait to put some rounds through it. i'm hoping it will cycle alright, otherwise I will be ordering a gas plug. This is my first AK variant, but I am already thinking about a Saiga 7.62x39. You can definitely tell it's not built like an AR!
